"Because of the power of the gods," Zelda said. "That's the long and short of it. Are any of you familiar with this design?" She held her hand up and traced in the air the triple triangles of the Triforce. She looked at the sea of faces in the crowd and saw recognition, nods, murmurs of acknowledgement.
"I realize this is harder to see, but on the back of my hand, there's a scar which formed from focusing that pattern, the energy of the gods through that pattern, for over the course of a hundred years. The Calamity Ganon and I were locked in battle, out of time. Remember, I was fighting an enemy with power beyond comprehension, and using power passed down by elder gods more powerful than Hylia herself. We have lost so much, so much knowledge and lore, too much."
She shook her head, still holding her scarred hand up. "I'm wearing the necklace I wore when I went up to Mount Lanayru on the day of my seventeenth birthday, the day Calamity Ganon attacked. I still have the dress I wore that day, but I felt that it was too formal to wear to this luncheon potluck. I realize these things could be replicated, I have my mother's signet ring, the name of Zelda which is passed down through the first-born daughters of Hyrule. I have been alive these past long hundred years, locked in battle with Ganon every single moment of that time keeping him at bay in the castle. The reason there was an increase in monsters in the last few years is that I was starting to finally give out and weaken. When I came out of the castle after we defeated him once and for all, I was still covered in the mud and blood from that terrible day. I was trapped in time and war, and came out with nearly everyone and all I ever knew dead and gone. Link and I are all that remains of the Champions. Tokk is one of the few people who still remember the time before the Calamity. All the rest of it, lost. I ask you for your help, for a huge favor, to trust me. You would have trusted me once, long ago, as your princess. I ask you now to trust me again as your queen. I realize how fantastic this story is, but I ask for faith. It took faith for me to defeat Ganon and keep you safe. Please help me."
Imploringly, she turned her scarred hand so it was palm-up, and held it to the crowd. "Please believe that I stand before you now, I, Zelda Caroline Grace of Hylia, Queen of Hyrule."
