Who: The Dormouse and the Mad Hatter. When: Tuesday evening. Where: The Tea House, naturally. What: The green armchair is missing! Rating: L for Low and also N for Nonsense.
The green armchair was missing.
It had been there, before, the Dormouse was sure of it. Sitting there, tucked against the wall in all of his greenness. He would know that armchair anywhere. It had a little doodle of salamander on one corner, near a leg, and a tea stain on one of the arms. Also, it had a very large groove in the cushion, the result of many people having sat on it over the - years? Time was so hard to keep track of.
But now it was gone.
The Dormouse might have thought that the armchair had plum gotten up and walked away, except it had a wobbly leg that fell off every time the chair was moved anywhere, and it would be hard to walk like that, wouldn't it? It was puzzling, a very big puzzler, and when Siska had woken up from a (one of many) impromptu nap, he decided something needed to be done about it.
And so he moved across the Tea House, holding half an apple and aphid scone in one hand (food helped him think), a small flurry of sleepiness and messy hair, until he found the Mad Hatter.
"The green armchair is gone," he declared. "I think it was chair-napped."
