Darius was used to cruelty and expected it from most everyone. His Aunt had been a very cruel and spiteful thing, beating him for dirtying his shirt when it was her who asked him to catch all the worms in the garden. She didn't like the kinder creatures, even if they helped things to thrive and grow. Worms were disgustingly slimy to her and anything that was dirty shouldn't be allowed near her home.
"You surprised me." He shrugged and stared at the ground for the moment. "I wasn't expecting a random cookie to appear out of the woods, you see." Most things that came out of the woods, especially if they were grown there had magical qualities to them and Darius wasn't looking to complicate his day by any tallness or smallness. It was inconvenient at best. "Got a name, cookie maker?"
