the press conference is arranged without much warning, the rookies brought there before training but after breakfast. a few eyes are, noticeably, still heavy with sleep as make-up is applied on faces, hair fixed, outfits provided. the days all start early here, but one must never let the public know - everything is perfect in its presentation.
the announcement about the new variety program seems to leave people stunned. selecting reserves in this way? is that fair? is that for the advantage of mankind? or is it - well. it's not that strange, it makes sense, considering the atmosphere, the direction of the program as it rides the waves of popularity amongst a desperate population. they need hope and distraction. this gives both. but still - when certain pilots hear it, they don't seem impressed. the cameras seem especially focused on the new stars, almost predatory. their lenses gleam in the early morning sun.
the news about the new set of reserve pilots is equally, if not more surprising. hyojung and heechul, who would have thought? the pair of them are pushed to the center, flashes go off. the pr director smiles and continues explaining their high compatibility, their excellent performance records, the jaeger they're currently developing that will capitalize on their special talents and advantages. the next warriors to fight against the kaiju. but they seem to spend a lot of time emphasizing their friendly personas, how well-liked they are. the boy and girl next door. they too, the pr director promises, will be featured in the new mnet series. of course! doesn't korea want to get to know their new heroes, too?
the questions are a blur, none of the trainees or the reserves able to answer but cunningly intercepted by a prepared pr team. just as soon, everyone is shuffled off back to base for training. but it's hard not to notice the new cameras being set up. filming begins next week. it seems signing up to fight kaiju meant signing away their privacy too.
