Steve Rogers is so smol. ([info]tinysteve) wrote in [info]junkedic,

Entry tags:! network post, dc (film/tv): monty, marvel (film/tv): bucky barnes (au), marvel (film/tv): steve rogers (au), stranger things: steve harrington, ✷ chapter 02 (all the pretty monsties)

That movie last night was pretty neat. Thanks again, other-Steve, for putting that all together.

Now that things feel a little less impossible, I figured I can try this again.

Hey Internet(? Right?), my name's Steve Rogers. Not the big, impressive one people seem to think, but still me. I figured it was about time I tried pulling my weight around here, so help me out: who needs an extra set of hands for a project? I'd prefer something more like 'kitchen duty' or 'record keeping', but I'll try anything twice.

Maybe your friends aren't, though? And maybe he wouldn't want you hurting over him, either.

I'm real glad things seem a little better here. Other-Steve was talking about how people are a lot less worried about the queer thing now, which is great. And Bucky is [...] he's the greatest man I know, yeah. That's how they got him as Captain America.

You don't seem that silly. But thanks, Monty.

Crap. I mean, you're right, but it's either this ache or the stabbing pain of heartbreak later, so...

They are! Things are great here about that. I'm pretty sure we outnumber the straights.

Bucky being the captain of a whole country does not surprise me at all.

Thank you too, Steve.

And I've got no room to judge or a way to tell you which is better. I just hope you can make all the aching stop soon.

That feels strange, if I'm being honest, but I guess that makes sense. About why people are okay with it.

I think he took it over cause something bad happened to me. His version of me. But it's been hard to talk about, because [...] Things are still weird for us.

Thanks. Me too, mostly.

I think there's a lot of reasons but yeah, that's probably a big one.

How are they weird?

Only mostly?

Whatever the reason, it's a good thing.

I mean, he's lived this whole extra life I know nothing about. He had a wife and kids, which [...] I guess I figured he would eventually, but I never even got to meet them? And I guess I'm just getting used to that. Him having a whole life that didn't include me.

I think part of me likes it. Like a scab you keep picking.

A really good thing.

Oh. Yeah, I can see how that would be hard to wrap your head around. What were you two like back then, were you really close? It seems like you were, so that must be really hard to feel like you missed so much.

Kind of a 'befter than him not being there at all' thing. I can get that.

He's my best friend. We lived together, after my ma died and his apartment got too crowded. And yeah. We were supposed to go off to war together, and everything, and when I got turned away and he left, I kinda

I did my version of just hanging out on the green I guess.

Exactly. Or, better than being a familiar and not getting to feel anything good at all.

No wonder we understand each other. I'm sorry you got left behind, even though war isn't a place anyone wants to really be. It was where he went.

No good feelings at all?

I wasn't really eager to go put my life on the line, or not... Just for that or whatever. I don't know how much you know about world history like that, but people were getting... Treated the worst they could be, just because they were different. Because somebody didn't like what some people looked like, or what they believed. Just bigger bullies. And I wanted to do what I could to stop that.

And... Yeah. The guy that always made sure my bullies stayed gone was going over there too. So of course I was going to go.

Just relief when I did what Esther wanted me to do.

I didn't know a lot about it, just broad strokes I guess. But I think it's important that people like you and Bucky wanted to fight that and make it stop. Really important.

So getting to cause your own emotions can be good. Even if the feelings themselves aren't good.

And it sounds like they won. Or at least it ended before things got worse. I don't really think people win wars.

Maybe that means he gets home, if I get back.

Yeah, I think so.

I don't think they do either. But stopping the bullies is almost there.

I hope it does. And you can have another chance, all that waiting on the Green. He'll come back home to you.

I think so too.

I mean. I hope he comes home. And maybe still [...] Gets me. I gotta imagine all that's going to change a fella. And I'm not exactly the punk he would remember either. Plus he's Captain Goddamn America, now. I don't think that just goes away if the war stops.

Yeah but just because he's Captain America doesn't mean his best friend goes away either. Or the things he feels about you.

Nah, I don't think he'd just leave me behind or nothing. But that's

He's always going to be my friend. He's just got a lot of other stuff to do, that's more important than looking after me, it sounds like.

He'd try to say it wasn't true. And I'd want to let him cause sharing my best friend with the whole country is kinda awful. But.

What he's doing is important. And I gotta remind him of that. Besides, somebody's gotta take care of him.

It is important. He's taking care of all those things but you're important to him. He's a person, when he's with you. He doesn't have to be Captain America, he can be Bucky.

Getting to be a person with somebody is everything. You remember him from before all that. He's never going to change so much that that goes away.

I hear you. And you're right. I don't really want him to be Captain America around me. And if that helps him then that's great, and it makes it feel a little less selfish. I just

I don't know.

I think this friendship is about being technically right about each other and then still being like "well I don't know".

I think you're what he needs.
