who ? Oliver Wood & Amelia Bletchley
when ? Thursday, February 7th, Afternoon (backdated)
where ? Muggle Restaurant
what ? First Date!
warnings/rating ? I'm guessing awkward and adorable?
status ? complete

Amelia really couldn't believe that she was here, about to meet Oliver Wood for a date set up by her brother. Also, she was strangely really hoping this date went well. Normally, Amelia was just hoping for some good conversation and a fun new story, but this one she really wanted to make a good connection. It didn't have anything to do with him being famous, she just really enjoyed talking to him. Hopefully, they would still get along with them not being talking in order to help his illness go away.

Leaving work halfway through the day, she quickly popped back to her place to get ready. Having already selected her dress the night before she quickly changed and did her makeup and hair. She didn't want to go over the top but the girl liked to use any excuse to get a little bit fancy. Once she felt she was ready she made her way to the restaurant they had agreed on. Walking in, she checked her watch and then looked around the area to see if she could see him. Finding him, she smiled before quickly walking, not running, to the table. "Oliver, hi, sorry if I'm late," she said once she made it to him.

A day off would usually come as a welcomed change for Oliver: normally his day would be filled with practice and training sessions, followed by strategic planning for upcoming matches and maybe an interview or two - especially near the end of the season. The day after a match Oliver always scheduled a massage well into the afternoon so he could sleep in as late as possible. it was one of the few frivolous personal luxuries he allowed himself in otherwise very regimented life. Except for today; today he wished he had a million things to do in order to make the time go by more quickly: he'd woken up much earlier than normal and found an entire day stretched out before him before the date.

The date. Merlin. He'd only been divorced about two weeks now. It had been surprisingly painless and part of him wondered why he hadn't signed the papers sooner. He could have been living his life without that cloud permanently looming over his life. Of course there was the concern dating so soon would come off as tacky, but Oliver shelved that for later.

The spot for the date had been suggested by the team's assistant: Classy without being pretentious and upscale enough without trying too hard to impress. And it had high tea, something Sam had insisted was very important. The agreed upon time came and Oliver - chronically early - settled in, feeling a flood of relief that he hadn't kept her waiting. Another few minutes passed before Amelia showed, smiling that incredible smile that had made him take note in the shop.

"No no, hen!" He said, smile matching hers while standing. "Not at all. How was the trip over?" Oliver had opted to take the train.

Feeling a little better about not keeping him too long she let out a breath she hadn't realized she had been holding. "Yeah, the trip was good. Thankfully no disasters to report," she joked. Standing there she didn't know if she should hug him or shake hands or what so instead she just decided to sit down and get comfortable. Setting her bag out of the way she ran a hand through her hair to relax and looked over at him. Man, he looked good.

"How did you match go yesterday?" Amelia asked him. Figuring as long as they didn't go into any sort of details, they could have been talking about any sport. This morning she had been indecisive if she should find out how it had gone, wondering which would look better. In the end, she decided not to find anything out, that way it would at least give them something to talk about if nothing else.

Briefly, Oliver wondered what to do: should he hug her? Shaking hands seemed a bit overly formal for a date, but acceptable? Luckily Amelia seemed to answer the question hanging between them and settled into her seat.

"It went well!" The nervous smile melted into one of enthusiasm. Quidditch. Yes. A safe topic! Of course he wouldn't bore her with constant droning about the sport like his sister warned; he had other interests...just, not so strongly. "Portree is definitely a good team; really clever. Their captain studied physics at Oxford an-" A flash of warmth colored Oliver's cheeks and he broke off the excited rambling with a chuckle. "Jings. Sorry. I promised Eddie I wouldn't ramble on. It went well." Simple. "What about you? Work going well? That po- medicine you gave cleared me right up." They were in a muggle world; doubtful though it were anyone listening, Oliver would have to remember to watch his terminology.

Amelia found it very adorable at how much his face lit up when he started to talk about his work. Not many people could say they were in the same situation. Additionally, she definitely was glad to hear they won, not only because it meant good news for him, but also she figured if they had lost, he wouldn't be super hyped about being on a date right now. When he caught himself rambling she smiled and shook her head a bit, "It's fine. You weren't boring me."

When he asked about work she couldn't help but bite her lip. A first date was definitely not the place to talk about the possibility of a career change, so instead, she decided to focus on the fact that he was feeling better. "Well I'm very glad that you are feeling better! I know its never great to be ill, but especially when you have such an intense job like yours any setback is rough," she replied with a smile. "Work overall is getting back to normal. A lot of hormonal teens have been frequenting but oh well, what can you do. It should be over in about a week or so."

"Don't say that," He warned with a fox-like grin. "Because I can definitely bore you with Quidditch if I tried." Merlin knows how many times his own teammates' eyes had glazed over during a long-winded monologue about strategies and statistics after practice.

Amelia's lip bite did not go unnoticed and for a brief moment he marveled at the way the very white teeth pulled at her pouty, plump lower lip. Did she know that was one of his weaknesses? Focus, Oliver. A voice deep in his mind chided. "Ha, I can't imagine. You probably get a lot of bribes around this time of the year, too." All Quidditch teams also took note of the Valentine's season, having to be extra careful of gifts sent to the players that may contain enchantments or baked in potions. Oliver had been on the receiving end of one several years prior when a witch wore a love potion infused perfume to a meet and greet.

Their waiter arrived - an older man with shockingly silver hair and a warm smile - and swiftly lit the small tea light between them. "Good evening." He purred with a voice like honey down an aching throat. "May I start you with a bottle of wine?"

"Is that a challenge then? To see if you can bore me?" she joked with a wink in his direction. She was going to say something else when the waiter arrived and disrupted their conversation. "Oh, well I'm open to wine if you are," she answered gesturing to Oliver. "You're the one with the stricter diet I would suppose." While she did try to eat somewhat healthy, she wasn't a professional athlete like the man sitting across from her.

After the waiter left she looked back at Oliver and went back to their previous conversation. "Yes, the bribes are quite high right now. Makes me embarrassed for the teenager I was back in the day and the silly things my friends and I tried. Thankfully I never tried to acquire any crazy potions or anything like that," she said with a small laugh. "Though what am I say I'm sure your fans step up the antics during all this time as well. I'm assuming you have some sort of screening process for the gifts and things you receive yeah?"

"Wine, definitely." Oliver agreed. Alcohol was very much on the restricted list... though one could argue that wine is technically a drink made of grapes which were definitely not on the list of off limited food. "May I see a list?" The waiter, a clearly long trained professional, revealed a handsomely bound book with such fluidity one might have thought he magicked it into existence, and excused himself.

Flipping through the glossy pages, his dark blue eyes quickly assessed each different offering while occasionally looking up to Amelia. "Mm yeah. Our team has a girl whose sole job is to interact with the fans. She's the one who goes through the gifts and meets everyone before we do any type of meet and greet. I dinnae know how she does it, really. Her people skills are ace." He shook his blond head with astonishment. "We really couldn't function without her. Most teams have someone like her, though. It's a safety measure without the fans feeling as though they're being limited or scrutinized." Mentally Oliver kicked himself; he was talking about Quidditch again. With an apologetic smile he swiveled the book to Amelia. "What type of wine do you like?"

Merlin, she could listen to him read ingredients to her all day and she probably wouldn't get bored. Trying to imagine a life where you had to have a special person to interact with people who want to meet you was so far from her normal life that at first, it didn't seem like it could actually be real. "That's very smart of the teams to have actually. There are so many people behind the scenes to help organizations like that function that most don't think about, unfortunately."

When he handed over the list she smiled before quickly scanning to seeing if anything stood out to her. Glancing up at him from the list she smiled. "So what does the great Oliver Wood do outside of games, or training for games, or recovering from games?" she questioned. "Besides getting ill and then not taking care of himself right away," Amelia joked. Before giving him a chance to respond she flipped the book back at him and pointed at her selection, "There, how does the pinot grigio sound?"

"It is!" Oliver beamed. If only he knew just how important their fan coordinator was to the stability of Oliver's life. While he was aware an entire team of people worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the success of Puddlemere he, however, was only dimly aware of just how much work went into making Oliver into Oliver Wood. Not that he was ungrateful, but these details were so far off his periphery and so deeply woven into his being it was hard to tell where he began and the team ended.

The candlelight delicately caressed Amelia's cheeks and dusting her eyelashes in warm light. Merlin, how had he not noticed her eyes before? Sure, she'd been the pretty girl at the shop, but this had to have been sorcery. "Mm?" The question slogged through his brain like molasses, and eventually surfaced. "I-" too late, she'd moved on to the wine selection. "Pinot, yeah hen, that'll do." And there was the heavy Highlands Scottish accent slipping out. "I'm going to be completely honest, I dinnae know much on wine. Just how to drink it." He left the purchasing to the team's personal assistant - she always knew the right thing to get.

"So. Back to me, eh?" It would have been rude to ignore her question. "Well... I guess take pretty girls named Amelia out to dinner." Another apologetic smile. "That was lame, hey? Eh... You summed me up though: practice, exercise, and not taking care of myself. I like to cook though." And oh could he cook.

Amelia couldn't help but giggle at his admission. "Well as long as you know how to drink it, that's certainly a good first step! I've always enjoyed wine, I feel it makes anyone look just a tiny bit fancier if they are seen sipping some nice wine," she said honestly. Amelia was certainly known for liking the finer things in life, even if she couldn't really afford as much as she wanted. Its part of the reason she liked dressing up so much, fake it until you make it and all that.

Oliver calling her out on the constant questions made her blush a bit. It was something she had a habit of doing. Other people were so much more interesting to talk about. She knew everything about herself so that was boring. Then when he called her pretty she felt herself blushing more, "Not lame at all, very sweet." When he said he could cook though, that surprised her. It was certainly not something she had seen coming, but wouldn't complain in the least. "I attend the cooking classes at the centre whenever I can. I'm not the best at it, but its fun to try and cook and relate to everyone struggling." Smirking she leaned in a bit closer, "Alright what would you like to know about me? I can only imagine what Sam has already told you."

Another fox-like grin graced Oliver's features; oh he absolutely knew how to drink wine. And gin. And scotch. And anything else with a pleasant burn. Perhaps it was Scottish genetics to drink like a drowned fish, but Oliver had never had an issue with winning a friendly drinking contest or sipping politely at a fancy cocktail. "Fancier for sure. I'm always a bit nervous I'll break the stem." His right hand lifted and flexed the sturdy fingers with emphasis. "Good for catching and gripping, not so good at handling delicate things." But he managed most of the time.

The cooking skills had been born out of necessity: it was the easiest way for Oliver to control his diet without sacrificing taste or driving the poor takeaway restaurants up the wall with the ridiculous accommodations for a simple meal. It was also a nostalgic activity, as he would often help his mother with the cooking, and there was something about the pleasant sizzling of a skillet that tugged on the frayed edges of long lost memories of summers at the Wood family home tucked away on a windswept moor in the Highlands. "I really want to take those classes." Oliver sighed with longing. "I haven't been able to attend the classes I'm supposed to teach." He'd sent a reserve from Puddlemere in his place 'until further notice'; with his own schedule and the complications from the divorce all outside obligations beyond Puddlemere had fallen to the wayside. Perhaps the two of them could cook together sometime?

Despite himself Oliver also leaned forward slightly. "Well, he told me you liked tea and fancy things. And that if I try anything funny you can absolutely beat me down." Not that he would do such a thing, but the idea of a woman being able to take care of her own safety against him was very appealing. "And now I've learned you like Pinot." And that her eyelashes were beautiful and her nose pointed upward in the most adorable way possible. Or just how luminous her smile really was. "I want to know what made you pursue a career in potions, for starters." Because honestly, he was quite terrible at that area of magic.

Amelia was almost certain he hadn't meant something dirty with his comment about handling delicate things and him flexing his fingers, but that's certainly where her mind went. Giggling she looked over at him, "Well you only have to use a wine glass when you are out in public when you're home you can use whatever you want and no one can judge you. What's your preferred alcohol then, if it's not wine and their fancy stemmed glasses?"

Well, Sam had pretty much defined her there. However, she while did join the martial arts club, she wasn't entirely sure she could take down Oliver. Hopefully, nothing ever would come up that she would have to try. When he asked about her career choice she hesitated, trying to figure out the best way to talk about it in a Muggle restaurant. Not that she expected anyone to be eavesdropping, but they had to be careful. "Let's see. It's not the most exciting story, I'll be honest. I learned by the end of third year that Slytherin with only play guys on their team, oh I suppose I never told you that was my house did I? So after that, I had to find another way to be social so I joined some clubs and that happened to be one of them."

The waiter arriving with their wine interrupted her story. Thanking him, she waited for him to leave before continuing. "I discovered it was something I enjoyed doing, but wasn't something I had considered as a career. When it came time for OWLs and all that, Snape mentioned become a potions brewer and the more I looked into it, the more it interested me. When I graduated I got a wonderful apprenticeship and I've been done with that for about five years now. Like I said, not very exciting, but it is the truth." Looking up at him, she was slightly concerned she was the one being quite boring.

"Come by sometime and find out, or we can go to a good pub." Oliver grinned. Truthfully his preference depended on the day and his mood. Lately he'd favored full-bodied scotches, another very off-limits drink.

Truthfully he'd been unaware of her former house, but the slight raise of his eyebrows was more of polite surprise than one of dislike; Oliver's only complaint with their rival house stemmed from their outright disrespect of Quidditch. They cheated, and sabotaged, and let players buy their way onto the team with money and favoritism. The waiter returned to display the beautiful bottle of wine, and offering Oliver the first sip for approval. Sweet Rowena it tasted of sun warmed honeysuckle and candied pears. He took another sip and smiled. "I think it's quite exciting." Oliver answered truthfully; he found other people and their lives endlessly interesting. Everyone's passions driving them down unique paths all for the same goal: personal happiness.

"It's interesting you say you're not the best at cooking, and yet you're clearly very talented with brewing. Then again I'm good at cooking and couldn't brew tea to save my life." Okay, so that was a slight exaggeration, but there was a kernel of truth behind the joke. Picking up the delicate paper menu Oliver looked over the daily selection, each one more decadent than the last: rack of lamb, fresh Chilean sea bass, gnocchi with sage butter... How was he ever going to decide? "Anything jumping out at you?"

Taking a sip of the wine she raised her eyebrows at him, "I suppose we will have to do just that then. Keeping things mysterious, how very interesting." She was surprised that he was so calmly talking about a second date already. With him going through all he was going through, she still couldn't believe that she had gotten a first one. Bringing up the separation was definitely something that would ruin the mood easily.

Amelia noted his reaction to her house and was thankful he didn't say any more. There was plenty of time for house teasing later should they get to know each other better. Hearing him call her path to her career as exciting was certainly not something she had ever heard. It was quite different from his profession so maybe that's why it interested him. Looking at the menu she considered each option and what would be the easiest to eat and not make herself look pathetic on a date. "I'm thinking the gnocchi sounds pretty delicious about now. I'm not sure that something that can be messed up easily either, but then again you seem to be the chef of the two of us," she teased. Setting her menu she took another sip of her wine before going back to their conversation. "I'm not sure why I'm so much better at potions, maybe because I know that it is going out to other people to help them that I put so much extra work and care into it. Whereas cooking for myself, well just goes towards me. Does that even make sense at all?" she laughed.

A second date for sure; if she wanted it. The first was already off to a good start that perhaps a second in a more casual setting would be the right step; pity it wasn't warmer as they could have a wonderful outing in Queen's Park in London or stroll along the river in Bristol.

"It makes sense. If I'm cooking for my mates or when the family comes 'round I definitely put more care into it than I would slinging together any auld dish for myself." Even though he really did take the time to select the best ingredients possible and insisted on doing his own shopping unlike some of his other teammates. "I was never good at brewing due to the fact I just spent so much time and effort at school focused on anything related to my team, so..." He laughed and shrugged, slightly embarrassed. Luckily the short-sighted obsessiveness on Quidditch had been replaced over the years with a keen eye for small details in contracts and helping to build the perfect team. And moving into captainship, of course. "Yeah, I think lamb for me. You don't mind if I eat meat, right?" Having a few vegan and vegetarian friends had made Oliver sensitive to these things.

"I did hear a rumor or two about you in school about you being a little bit, shall we say, obsessive about the sport," she teased. Sure, there were a few years between them but anyone who was around Quidditch knew how obsessed he was at school before each match. "It all worked out in the end though, so who needs good grades when you have a good career anyway," she added. Sure, she had dived into her schooling because it was what would help her succeed in life. For Oliver, he needed to know Quidditch and he worked hard to get what he wanted. That was the important thing.

When he asked if he could eat meat she was taking a drink and quickly waved her hand while she finished, "Merlin yes go ahead. I'm not a vegetarian or anything like that, also I find it ridiculous when people are like that just because of their personal choices." While she respected people for their eating choices, making someone else adapt while in their presence was a bit too much for her. "So what other questions does the great Oliver Wood have for me? I'm intrigued."

"I had a of help, though," A frown tugged at the corner of his lips at his omission. Many would chalk it up to luck, but the truth was Oliver had an entire team of people and his father's connections to ensure success. Not that the oldest Wood son wasn't ridiculously talented, but Angus Wood had given up his career to be a father and lived his life through his children, mostly Oliver. "My Da was a noted Beater for the Prides and he had myself and my brother training by the time we could walk." Another small, thoughtful drink and he added on. "Though I was a bit silly about my focus in school." Especially when one's priorities were to win a match while your Seeker still barely stood.

Oliver beamed at Amelia; he didn't mind vegetarian options but how often could be justify having lamb with sun-dried tomatoes with garlic and rosemary balsamic reduction? "Nah, your turn, hen. I haven't bored you with a story in," he checked his watch and pulled a look of mock surprise. "Nearly ten whole minutes! Jings. I'm off my game."

His statement caused her to frown a small bit. It sounded a little like he didn't have much choice in playing Quidditch. Amelia had been lucky that her parents were all very supportive of their children and what they decided to pursue, she couldn't imagine what it must have been like for him. Then again he didn't seem like he regretted it at all, so maybe it really wasn't that way.

Laughing at his joke she was interrupted by the waiter, and they quickly placed their order and waited for him to leave. Amelia studied his features while she hummed and tried to figure out what to ask him. "You mentioned a brother, do you have any other siblings?" she asked. That seemed like a simple enough question yeah? I mean he already knew about Sam, and possibly he knew about Miles. Besides, family dynamics could tell you a lot of things about a person.

"Och yeah!" The immediate Wood family wasn't very large, but extremely close. Too close, if you were consult with the youngest child, Logan, who had recently fallen out with his father and suffered a very strained relationship with his siblings. Still, Oliver's face lit up with undeniable glee as he seemed to nearly buzz. "Eddie - Edwardine. She's the oldest and only girl. She's married now, and lives in Spain with her three kids and is a lawyer for the Barcelona Eagles. It was just the three of us, and we're all three years apart equally. I have a whole host of cousins in various parts of Scotland and down around here; it's pure mental when we get together for the family reunion in the summer." Pausing for a moment, he considered Amelia and hesitated. Obvious her and Sam were very different, but he felt odd to bring in it. "Erm, you have Sam, yeah? Miles too. Any others?" Hopefully this would be a safe territory.

Amelia nodded, so he was also from a family of three children. Hearing him talk about big family reunions were sweet and also something she couldn't imagine if they were all like Oliver. It had to be a sight to see for people. When he mentioned his sister lived in Spain she was surprised. Obviously, it was possible for siblings to move out of the country but that wasn't something she regularly thought about. She was grateful that none of her siblings had done that. "Do you get to see your sister and her family much?"

Noticing his hesitation she gave him a small smile of comfort. It wasn't the first time that people had been nervous to bring up her family situation. She understood it could be a sensitive subject for some people but she didn't normally view it that way. When the war was happening though, it made her rethink a lot of things and how unique their situation really was. "You're fine, it's nothing I have a problem talking about. But yes, I just have Miles and Sam," she said before taking another sip of her wine. "Sam's the adopted one, just so you know. My parents always knew they had wanted to adopt so after they had Miles and were ready for another kid they looked into adopting. They met Sam's biological mother and were in the process for that when mum got pregnant with me. So Sam and I are less than a year apart and were in the same year at school, different houses though. Technically though I am still the baby of the family."

Oliver paused for a moment to consider; did he really see Eddie as much as it seemed? Sure they kept up regular communication, but since having her family the frequent visits and impromptu weekend getaways to London dwindled into those scheduled far in advance and with her brood in tow. Not that Oliver minded seeing his wonderful niece and nephews, but it would have been a lie to say he didn't miss their aimless, long nights. "Not as much as I used to," He shrugged in a would-be casual way. "But enough."

Ah, so that was the connection Sam shared with Miles and Amelia. Oliver had wondered once he learned of Sam's siblings, but felt it inappropriate to ask; they were friendly but in his opinion not divulge-family-secrets friendly. He leaned back slightly. "I did wonder," he nodded, happy to hear it wasn't something awful like an affair or a baby left on the doorstep. "But he's great and has a good family." Truthfully Oliver didn't know if he could adopt; of course he spent plenty of time at the Children's Ward in St Mungo's when time allowed, but a fear that he wouldn't be able to love the child as much if it wasn't his own always nagged somewhere in the back of his brain.

A quick sip of wine. Merlin this was good.

"Right. My turn." Leaning forward almost comically, Oliver squinted as though he were examining Amelia with x-ray vision, a goofy grin stretched across his lips. "Worst subject in scho- No. In life." School was so long ago, after all. "What is something you just can not get the hang of no matter how hard you try?"

Amelia shook her head, "You're the not the only who has wondered about us, that's for sure. He really makes our family whole. Sure, there's been some small issues, but then again any family has them you know?" Mostly their issues came about during all the war times, and they came out stronger because of it. Growing up, it obviously was known that Sam was adopted and it never bothered Amelia. "The three of us have always been really close so it was weird having Miles go off to Hogwarts, and then Sam and I end up in different houses. It was a bit of an adjustment but I think I turned out okay.

Watching him study her was definitely adorable and the question that came after was not one she was expecting. "My worst subject in life?" she teased. This could be interesting, depending on how deep and personal he really wanted her answer to be. Given that this was a first date though, she was going to try and keep it light. Tapping her finger on her chin she pretended to be deep in thought, "But if I tell you my flaw who says you will still talk to me?" she said with a wink. "Let's see, I never could understand chess no matter how many times people tried to teach me, and I'm rather trash at karaoke. Also, you already know about my not so great cooking skills. Is that the sort of things that you were looking for?"

Merlin, the two had literally talked all through dinner and now, as a piece of decadent chocolate mousse balanced on the edge of a fork, Oliver's grin deepened. "C'moan now, hen, I'm technically not supposed to eat it." Even though it was him who had ordered it; if Amelia ate most of the dessert his contribution wouldn't count, right? "You cannae let it go to waste, would you?"

The wine had flowed and the tip of Oliver's nose felt numb - a clear sign he was perfectly buzzed and floating in a sea of warm candle light and good company of the woman across from him. He owed Sam drinks for setting this up.

It was probably a combination of the great conversation and the wine that had her giggling at Oliver. Tonight had been quite better than she had expected and she really enjoyed talking to him. Never had a man been so tempting with dessert before, especially since he was the one who ordered it.

Amelia decided to give him an overexaggerated eye roll while picking up her own fork. "You know," she joked, "I have previously communicated with one of your team's healers and therefore could do it again, don't you?" There was absolutely no way she would ever do something of the sort, but Merlin it was fun to throw it out there at him.

With mock indignation Oliver let the fork droop slightly in his fingers. "Now that's low," he pouted. "I guess I'll just have to destroy all the evidence then." And he popped the delicious morsel of mousse into his mouth with a smirk, looking down at the rest on the plate; they had decorated it so beautifully with raspberries nestled in the middle and dusted with a type of gold leaf foil. "So," what was even left to discuss? It felt as though they had covered every subject and yet Oliver wanted to know more.

Amelia couldn't help but laugh at his reaction and she took the opportunity to take some of the dessert and taste it. Oh Merlin, this was delicious. She wanted to make a comment about not wanting to mix business with pleasure but that was probably too much. "I promise I won't tell on you, as long as you promise not to tell Sam any of the embarrassing things I told you about him," see compromise could work.

At his statement, she couldn't help but worry a bit. Had they run out of things to talk about already? "So," she shot back at him as a bit of a challenge. "Still think I might beat you up?"

He nodded earnestly, finding it a fair compromise, though some of the more embarrassing details ached for further explanation or to watch Sam's cheeks go red. It could wait, however. For a brief moment Oliver thought to make Amelia swear the same, but the idea of watching his younger brother squirm from good natured embarrassment was too good to pass up.

"Yeah probably," He replied honestly though a grin. This past evening had solidified the fact Amelia was indeed a strong, competent woman who could handle herself and that excited Oliver; Lisbeth had always resorted to the dramatics and enjoyed playing the damsel in distress. It was exhausting to always have to save her. "You still think you'll need to?"

Amelia had been focusing on the mousse and getting some of the remaining bit on her fork when he answered and in surprise, she let out a laugh. She hadn't expected him to actually say yes to that. "Well at least you're honest," she teased. "But no, I don't think as of now I need to. You seem to be a good guy," she said as she put the fork in her mouth to eat more the dessert.

"You are free to drop by martial arts class if you have a Wednesday night free. Come hang out with Sam and me," she said with a shrug. Amelia was certainly trying to make it seem much more casual that her head was making it be. Once they finished their dessert, Amelia took a quick looked outside how dark it had become. How long had they been here?

Never one to turn down the opportunity for a physical sport Oliver's interest peaked at The mention of martial arts. Sure he had dabbled at the gym and with his trainer but it was only a brief repetitions of various moves before moving onto such things like weights and cardio; he's never taken a proper class though having long wanted to since discovering Bruce Lee. "Yeah! It's-" the rest of that playful sentence cut off. Date seem too forward and presumptuous. Instead he quickly substituted that it sounded like a good idea. "I won't even have to be a bad guy for you to give me a beat down." He teased.

When Amelia turned her head Oliver studied the profile of her face: the delicate bridge of her nose and the fullness of her lips. Perhaps it was the candlelight or even the wind but he wasn't sure how he miss these little details and their first interaction. "Ah!" Turning his dark blue eyes to the window Oliver shared her surprise. "Jing! We've been here a wee bit!" That surprise turned into a pang of sadness; they would have to go home soon. There are still so many questions he had left so much he wanted to discover. Another time perhaps.

"Plus we will have supervision so nothing bad happens, though I highly doubt that anything would but still," she said with a shrug. Seamus was always ensuring that things were safe there and that no stupid things were done. Accidents could happen, but proper supervision and everyone looking out for each other certainly made Amelia feel comfortable there.

It made Amelia feel a bit better knowing that he was just as surprised as she was. "Well there is that saying that times flies with you are having fun." Reaching over she placed her hand on his and gave it a quick squeeze before pulling it back at bit, "And I have had a great time tonight. Thank you."

The gentle touch brought the skin under Amelia's fingers to alight with excitement; if Oliver didn't know his own body he would have sworn little patches of light would linger when she removed her gentle grasp. "It helps when the company is great." He smiled with a soft sincerity while his gaze held hers for a moment longer than normal; Merlin what beautiful eyes. "Want the rest of this?" He motioned to the mousse settled between them. "No sense in it going to waste." As if on cue their impeccable waiter seemingly materialized in front of them, inquiring about the meal and laying down a handsome leather server wallet. Time to pay the bill and end the night.

Amelia couldn't stop the blush from her face and was thankful that the waiter had shown up to interrupt the moment that was happening. Sure, it was him moving them along on their way to leaving, but if she hadn't shown up, well she probably would have said something very embarrassing. Instead, she took her advice and finished up the remaining bits of dessert that were left to clear her head. Once it was done she looked up to him and smiled, "Excellent decision on the dessert Oliver. Also I will keep your reputation intact and not tell anyone that you had some." It wasn't like she was going to start bragging that they went on a date either. For one, he was going through a media hounding already and she wanted nothing to do with it. Also, she didn't know if this was a one-time thing or not and didn't want to sound braggy.

"I knew I could trust you," He quipped while neatly tucking the dinner's amount into the the server wallet and paused. This was it. Taking one more sip of water and folding the napkin politely onto the table, Oliver stood up and moved around to pull out Amelia's chair; he'd been mentally kicking himself for not doing so upon her arrival. "Shall we go, hen?" Not that there was anything waiting at home beyond a game play that needed revision. "You're alright to get home, yeah?" He could at the very least walk her to a safer spot to apparate.

Amelia muttered a small thank you when he paid for their bill. She was going to offer to help pay for the food, but then she had gotten distracted by the mousse. When he pulled the chair out for her she blushed a bit and stood up. As they started to make their way out she nodded, "There's a spot just around the corner that I can pop out at. What about you? How are you getting home?" In all reality she wanted to walk really slow so they didn't have to end tonight, but that just seemed ridiculous.

While walking to the door Oliver offered his arm in a subtle sort of way - she was in control of the situation as far as he was concerned. "Hmm?" Stepping out into the cold night air, he shivered slightly and readjusted the dark gray woolen scarf. "I'm not too far, really. I could app-er, make my way home quickly. Just want to make sure you're good, hen." Not that Amelia wasn't more than capable of taking care of herself, but it was the polite thing to do; his Ma would have given the worst smack if she knew her son wasn't behaving like a gentleman. Oliver paused on the sidewalk, looking her over one last time.

Amelia quickly linked her arm through his shortly after he offered it. It was such an old school gentleman thing to do that she swooned internally. Once they finally made it outside, she was surprised at the chill that increased while they were inside. Looking over at him she smiled and brushed some hair that had blown into her face away. "I'll be okay, but I appreciate your asking though. It's very sweet of you." Noticing him looking at her she didn't feel quite ready to walk away just yet, "Thank you again Oliver, I had a really great time today."

"It's my pleasure." He purred. They both stood so still watching the other. Amelia looked not unlike a beautiful sculpture as the wind gently made an attempt to rearrange her hair. Oliver had always preferred blondes, but there was a unique beauty to the woman in front of him. He delighted searching every detail of her face: the curve of her lips which could rewrite history, her thick and dusty lashes, and the way the neckline of her dress rested so tantalizingly against her collar bones.

Blame it on the reckless, impulsive aspects of a Gryffindor, but instead of uncoupling his arm politely, Oliver instead traced his fingertips down to the small of Amelia's back and stood a mere breath's distance apart.

"Would kissing you be a reason to give me a beating?"

When Oliver pulled her close, her hand easily rested on his bicep as she looked up at him. Thankfully with her heels, there wasn't too much of a height difference and she mentally thanked herself for ensure to wear smear-proof lipstick today. Being this close to him she could really study his features and smell his warm and comforting scents of his soap.

His question made her smile and she pretended to pause and think about it for a second before looking back at him. "No, you're very much allowed to do that right now," she said as she closed the distance and kissed him, her eyes fluttering shut.

He stepped in closer, brushing his thumb tenderly over her chilled cheek. The kiss, long and slow and sweet, allowed Oliver to learn the taste of Amelia's kisses (mousse and wine) and the feel of his fingers sliding into her hair and the firm muscles of her back. After a few moments he pulled back and looked at her softly, “Just for right now.”

Breaking away some what reluctantly, Oliver placed a small kiss on the tip of her nose and nodded; that would have to do for now.

While the kiss was fairly simple, the feelings it gave Amelia were certainly not. While she knew it wasn't proper for them to stand outside this place and kiss for hours after a first date, it was currently not something she herself was opposed to. Thankfully, Oliver had some wits about him and ended the kiss before she lost control.

Taking a small step back and looked up at him and nodded, "Just for now works for me. Good night, Oliver." Giving him a final kiss on the cheek and a small smile and wave before walking away and around the corner to a safe spot and popped home.
