Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Ted and Andromeda
When: January 11, 1977, very late at night
Where: out on the pitch
What: broom-racing! What else?
Rating: G most likely

She waited until all was quiet in her House before she ventured out again, broom at hand, using the same route she did the night before when she wandered out onto the lawn. Tonight, however, she was in a lighter mood than she was the night before, now that she knew that in the very least, James would be looking out for Sirius. The girl had to admit that she felt a bit of guilt when she told James what she and Sirius had discussed over the holiday, although now that she thought about it all, it made her feel better that at least one of his friends knew about it as well. Relationships and dating were all fun and games, although it's not often one would sit down and consider the fact as to whether or not one was about to throw oneself out of the fire and into the frying pan.

...which is a little bit like her situation at the moment. She, a Slytherin of known pureblood descent, going out to meet a muggleborn Hufflepuff out on the pitch late at night. Then again, Andromeda knew that she did not stand much of a chance to be corrupted by the boy she was meeting tonight. At any rate, she was out here to have a bit of fun, so she quickly pushed all other thoughts out of her mind as she walked up onto the pitch and looked around for Ted.

Ted laughed and made an attempt to smooth out his hair. "It went great! We've got such a good team; I'll be surprised if we don't get at least second in the running this year. I'm so glad to be their Captain. They're a great bunch."

They were standing in the middle of the field, and Ted began to walk with her to one side of it. "And how are you?"

"I'm doing well, Ted," the girl answered happily as she walked with him. She had to admit that he did look nice in Quidditch robes. "Though uh...now you've gotten me worried about the Slytherin team, what with you mentioning how well your team is doing."

She winked at him playfully. "I only jest. They're lucky to have you. So...are you ready for a bit of broom-racing?"

"Watch out, Slytherin," he teased, chuckling.

Ted lifted his broom in his gloved hand. "Sure am. And what shall our rules be? Ladies' choice."

"How about...we around the school perimeter? The first one to make it back to the pitch? Best in three?" She leaned on her broom handle casually. "An obstacle course would be rather cool, although the only one I see that might pose a challenge right now is the forest, and I don't think flying through trees would be a very good idea at this time of night."

He nodded. "For another time, then," Ted said.

"Alright, then. Once around the school's perimeter." He swung his leg over and mounted his broom, then looked over to watch her prepare herself.

"Right then!" She too, mounted her broom, although rather than straddling it, she sat in it side saddle style. Realising the difference in their methods, Andromeda cleared her throat.

"Mother always said that this is the only proper way to mount a broom," she explained, slightly read of face before she grasped the broom handle tightly. "Anyway...you'll see! There actually is a method to my madness. Alright...on a count of three. One...two...three!"

And with that, she pushed up off the ground, commencing the race.

Ted raised an eyebrow, but shrugged it off. Whatever floats her boat, and all. He could definitely see how it might inhibit her movements, though

She counted off and they pushed off the ground at the same time, barrelling around the pitch neck and neck before setting off in the direction of the castle. Ted leaned down closer to his broom handle to pick up speed.

With the winter air whipping her cheeks to redness, Andromeda too leaned down closer to her broom handle as she made to catch up with him, her eyes narrowing slightly as the wind rushed up against her.

After some time, she was nearly neck and neck with him again by the time they reached the first tower of the castle. The girl gave him a little wave, although she had to lean her body to the side quickly, veering her broom off to the left a bit in order to avoid one of the ledges.

This was surreal, Ted thought. It was the dead of night, and he was racing a Slytherin girl around Hogwarts on his broom. Not just any Slytherin girl, either. Beautiful, smart, passionate, pureblooded Andromeda Black. Surreal.

He laughed and waved back, dropping lower to do a barrel roll underneath her, then ascending again on her other side.

"Hey you!" she greeted affectionately when he appeared on her other side. Already they were rounding one side of the castle, although now it's becoming less of a race to Andromeda and more like just simply her spending some time with Ted, whose company she found herself enjoying immensely.

She didn't even know where to begin when it came to describing him. Easy-going, caring, understanding, handsome, smart... It seemed as if he had everything. What's more is that the girl felt as if he didn't expect her to be anything else but herself, and she really liked that.

Yet she found that the more she looked at him, the warmer her face began, and the girl realised much to her surprise that she was blushing. Ducking her head down, eyes wide, she leaned down close to her broom handle again to gain a bit of speed, hoping to somehow cool down her face a little.

If Ted knew what Andromeda was thinking, his face would've been red as well. He still wasn't used to the idea of people actually liking him, and girls tended to make him a bit nervous.

He probably wasn't going as fast as he could be as they rounded the next corner, but he'd rather fly with Andromeda than win the race. He enjoyed seeing the joy on her face when she was doing something she liked.

It wasn't until she rounded the corner that she noticed that Ted had slowed down, which made her slow down in her flying, and the girl darted a glance back at him. "Hey now!" she teased playfully. "You're not going easy on me now, are you?"

He was, but he laughed and called out to her, "Going easy on you? Of course not, just...lulling you into a false sense of security." With that he flattened himself against his broom handle and shot forward.

"Oy! Two can play at that game!" she cried out, laughing. Leaning low near her broom handle, the girl too sped after him, catching up to him again just as they were rounding yet another corner. "You sly devil, you! I was waiting for you back there, you know!"

He did another gleeful barrel roll, laughing. "That's the idea!"

They could see the Quidditch pitch hurtling closer, and he urged his broom on for the final stretch. Ted could see Andromeda out of the corner of his eye and leaned down further, trying to get more speed.

With the Quidditch pitch just within her sights, the girl attempted to gain even more speed as she tried to catch up with Ted. Yet from the looks of things, he was more than likely going to win this race. Not that she minded, of course, since she was given the opportunity tonight to witness firsthand Ted's skill on the pitch, and Andromeda could see just exactly why he was the captain of his Quidditch team.

Ted sped into the pitch and shot over their finishing line. He did a turnabout and slowed down, coming back to wait for her, exhilarated and grinning.

She was quite breathless when she caught up to him, her cheeks rosy from being whipped by the wind, a broad smile on her face. "That was a brilliant race," she gushed as she pushed a tuft of hair out of her face. "But...you win! You should really get something, as the winner and all. What should the prize be?"
