OPERATION HEART ATTACK
In short, Mary and Dorcas have come up with a brilliant plan to try to unmask a Death Eater. The motive behind this is twofold: 1) that the DErs seems to be these fictitious people that do horrible things but don't have a name or face behind them and 2) that Mary wanted to use her almost attack on her house to her advantage.
Mary, with the help of Dorcas, decided to organize a staging to lure out Death Eaters. This consists of a public luncheon with a group of former Gryffindors. Unfortunately, the intimate group of 3-4 was looking like it may become a much larger group. In their concern, Dorcas and Mary feared that it might be too large of a group for Death Eaters to come out for. Instead, Dorcas and Mary decided to go shopping briefly before the luncheon.
As it turned out, their idea to use Mary as bait worked! About half an hour before the lunch, Dorcas and Mary began to window shop in a private, quaint area (think abandoned so no one would really see them), which is when the attack takes place. It's Rosier and NPC!Mulciber against Dorcas Meadowes and the very pregnant Mary MacDonald-Prewett. At first, they put Dorcas under the Cruciatus Curse while they try to finish off Mary, but then they change their mind and slip Mary under the Cruciatus instead.
In the mean time, Sirius Black, assigned to trail Mary for a little while given her "suicide mission," arrives seemingly early to lunch only to find the girls attempting to defend themselves. Frank is next to arrive. While under the Cruciatus still, Mary is basically useless. Dorcas manages to successfully unhood Mulciber, identifying him as a Death Eater and kicking his ass a little. A misfired spell fired by Frank (the firer of this spell is unbeknown to everyone, save for Frank) goes awry and hits the building, causing a chunk of the building to fall on Mary (still under the Cruciatus) and breaks her back.
At this point, Sirius snatches the now fallen Mary and the ever-feisty Dorcas and Disapparates straight to Mungo's, leaving Frank to try to uncloak/unmask the other Death Eater (Rosier) before they retreat and the fight breaks up, with Rosier's identity still hidden. Sirius ends up with a severe burn on his face and Frank ends up with the usual scrapes and bruises, and a broken arm. Though Dorcas was saved from the Cruciatus, she ends up with a shattered tibia, a small gash in her forehead from bumping her head, and bruising over her ribs and stomach from an unsuccessful Blasting Curse.
The aftermath: the Office of Improper Use of Magic is going to have some PR to do and the DMLE will have an investigation on their hands. The Prophet will cover it, of course. For those of you with characters that should have been at lunch-- they would be the first to realize what happened before the Prophet article comes out. Feel free to have your characters reply appropriately on the journals/arrive at Mungo's or the DMLE/etc.
INJURIES
- Sirius' injuries are minor in comparison. He is only held in the hospital for a brief period of time (a few hours).
- Frank's injuries are the usual scrapes and bruises, a broken arm (moderate) and he is in the hospital overnight, likely with his mother (a Healer) fretting over him and/or berating him for getting himself there.
- Dorcas' injuries are moderate with her broken leg (courtesy of Rosier), minor head injury, bruised ribs (both courtesy of Mulciber as the Blasting Curse caused her to fall and hit her head), and minor nausea and sensitivity from the Cruciatus Cruse and she is in the hospital for two nights and is released early Friday morning, complaining the whole time that she's fine. Also, the head injury combined with Cruciatus side effects give her minor temporary memory loss of the incident so she only remembers it in fuzzy pieces at first.
- Mary's injuries are, by far, the most severe. She doesn't wake up until nearly midnight/early morning Thursday. She'll be in the hospital for a full week and then be on bed rest for an additional week or so. Due to the event, Mary will have back problems for the rest of her life. Mary's memories of the event are spotty. There is a lot she doesn't know about either because she was in too much pain or because she's repressing things already. She has no memory immediately prior to and following her back breaking. As for the Cruciatus implications, Mary, like Dorcas, will be experiencing nerve sensitivity and slight nausea.
- Evan has minor injuries that include the customary battle bruises, cuts, burns, slashes and gashes. Dorcas manages to break his left hand, his wand hand, which causes the retaliation in which he breaks her leg manually. Since his injuries are so minor, he does not seek medical consult from St. Mungo's though he might seek Healing from another source.
- Mulciber also has minor injuries that include the customary battle bruises, cuts, burns, slashes and gashes. After he grazes Dorcas with a Blasting Curse, she manages to get one back to his face which destroys his mask and scratches his face up, but does not make him unidentifiable. He also does not go to St. Mungo's to seek medical consult.
