WHO: Neville, Gran, and then Hannah
WHAT: Neville had a run-in with a memory charm, then a run-in with Gran. Now he's going to Hannah's
WHEN: After dinner Tuesday
RATING: PG? He's still Neville.
Neville Longbottom had a busy Tuesday night. He needed some supplies for his medicine chest and after picking up a few basic potions at The Apothecary, had headed into an alley to apparate. Neville had been on his way to Gran's for dinner when he heard someone behind him. He had whirled around to see nothing in the shadows, but something had changed.
When he landed outside of Gran's door and knocked, there was a spring in his step. He didn't realize it, but the memories of Hogwarts, the memories of being shoved in cupboards and having his head pushed into toilets were gone. He didn't remember being mocked, or even tortured by the Carrows siblings. He didn't remember having his utter incompetence with potions outlined for him in vivid detail by Severus Snape or being laughed at by a girl because he had been in the green house, zoned-out, and she had assumed he was staring at her friend. None of those memories weighed on him as he knocked.
After dinner, Gran noticing his improved mood and being bothered by it, approached the subject of the Christmas present she had wrapped days before. Hannah. Gran was never one to beat around the bush and she launched into the topic, informing Neville that Hannah was a poor choice for a respectable young wizard to court because she was an unwed mother, not just before Lucy's father had died, and that he could do better. Neville, surprising everyone, had told Gran that she was really one to talk, shacking up with Aberforth, and that he wasn't stupid and neither was the rest of the world. Just because she was too old to get knocked-up didn't make it any different.
And now Neville found himself at Hannah's door, looking down at his appearance, checking to make sure his outfit was suitable. He looked good. He was in great shape. Gran had always told him as a kid that he would be a nice-looking boy when he got older and that it was just baby fat. Being taunted for so many years by his peers had made it hard to remember, but now he looked down at himself and he knew she was right. He looked good. And he was an Auror. He had money. He could kick anyone's ass who messed with her. Neville saw himself for the first time in his life as desirable and with that new confidence he knocked on her door.
