Title: Between the Worlds

Summary: "Like that would have worked," Axel says to the emptiness.
There's no time between the worlds -- or space or wind or ice, or, well, he could go on -- but somehow that only makes Axel feel like he can stop there, for a little bit, just long enough to catch the memory of his breath and get his drive back. Xemnas's damn bloodhound won't track him here without working for it. And by that time Axel will have summoned enough memory --
Your hair feels like feathers, he said, and laughed when Roxas called him stupid --

No-one will miss me, Roxas insisted, and he didn't move, weighted down by the awful pain happening between his ribs, when he should have run after Roxas and --
"Like that would have worked," Axel says to the emptiness. He's trying for bitter. He thinks it's working. "He'd have killed me."
The thing is, Roxas is still going to kill him. He's probably known that since the first time.
Roxas, he said, couldn't stop saying, holding tight and rocking in deep.
Without him, everything else is bleeding away.
