RP: Tired ...
Who: Corey, Roland, Rory
Where: their house
When: late morning, Feb 13, 2010
Rating/Warning: None?
Summary: Corey is tired from all her healing activities
Status: Complete

Outside of the house, Corey kicked the walls to knock the worst of the snow from her boots before she unlocked the door to let herself in. She was still convinced they needed to get a dog. A big one, like a St. Bernard that could come bounding up to the door to say hi when she got home. "Rooooooolaaannnd," she called out as she toed her boots off, making sure not to step on the melting snow.

Shrugging out of her coat, she wiped the worst of the snow from her hair. "It's snowing out," she announced to him - wherever he was - before she started to move deeper into the house to find him.

Because, you know, it hadn't been snowing all night or anything.

"Hold on," Roland called from the kitchen after hearing his sister's announcement, "I'm having trouble finding my shocked face." At this point, he was beginning to doubt that it would ever stop snowing. While he liked snow, he was getting sort of tired of it.

Following the sound of her voice, he left the kitchen and arched his brows when he spotted her, "How is everyone doing?"

He suddenly felt sort of bad; he'd done very little to get to know the other members of their coven. He knew they didn't have to be best buddies or anything, but aside from things like helping to find the people who went missing, he'd been pretty reclusive lately.

"It's probably in the laundry. Or your other pants," she called back as she headed for the fireplace, flopping down in front of it.

"Everyone's doing ... better," she said. "I think some of them might need actual therapists, but ..." She shrugged as she wiggled a little closer to the fire, rolling onto her back. Shifting her eyes over toward him, she grinned a little.

"But physically ... healing. Some a little more crossly than others. Neytiri's not really a fan of being broken and she bitches a lot." Not that Corey blamed her in the least, really ... if one didn't know that limbs could break, having a broken ankle would be a shock and a half. "I figure she's still got at least another couple of weeks, even with my help. They let Ashley out of the hospital though, so ... that's good. And Severus woke up the other day."

"Hope it didn't go through the wash," he replied thoughtfully, unsure what a shocked face would look like after going through the washing machine. Maybe it would just look even more shocked.

Shaking his head at his thoughts, he made his way to the couch and sat down onto it, nodding as she summed up how everyone was doing.

"Glad to hear everyone is healing. Therapy probably wouldn't be a bad idea. I can't really imagine what being stuck in hell would do to a person." They'd been through some pretty fucked up things in their own life, but he wasn't sure it was the same as actually going to hell for a while.

Corey snorted slightly at the idea of his shocked face going through the wash. "Maybe it could've used a wash," she pointed out before she stretched out on her back, her arms reaching across the floor.

"Worse for some than others, from what I heard. Bits and pieces. The ones willing to talk about it." She shrugged against the floor. Her eyes flicked over to him, and part of her was half inclined to invite him to join her ... but there were other things to consider. Like Dennis.

Which reminded her that she - as soon as things settled down - was going to hunt up someone for Roland. There were lots of girls around ... she just had to find one he clicked with.

His lips twitched into a smile and he couldn't argue with that. Instead, he studied her as she stretched out on the floor, his eyes trailing down her body.

"Well, here's hoping things are quiet for a bit," he had almost said he hoped things would get back to normal, but he didn't even know what normal was anymore. Their lives had never really been normal, after all, and he didn't really want to go back to being hunters, anyway.

"You have any exciting plans for today? Or unexciting ones, even?" He questioned as he stretched out on the couch, crossing his arms behind his head.

"Quiet would be nice. Maybe we'll be snowed in for a week and not have to deal with anything. At all." She knew she was on the verge of being recruited to pick up strays, and she was hoping to dodge that particular bullet for a bit longer. She really, really wasn't keen on putting herself out there for random people who might be a little bit crazy.

"No plans, really. Exciting or otherwise. Sleeping. Eating. This healing stuff is draining," she pointed out before she yawned ... a bit exaggeratedly, but it was still a real yawn. "Maybe I'll see about a shower first." Though that was actually a pretty big maybe.

Really, she thought she was kind of good falling asleep right here. "What about you? Plans? You could go shovel Rory's driveway for her in case she has to go pick up someone," she teased him.

"I don't even think the snow would save us," he pointed out with a light grin, letting his eyes drift closed. The witches could just ... make the snow disappear if it came to that.

He opened one eye to peer down at her doubtfully, unsure she was going to make it off the floor do follow through with her plans when she was yawning like that.

"Are you trying to get rid of me?" He asked teasingly, but he really didn't have any plans. He could go shovel Rory's driveway, but he didn't really know the FBI agent. "Wouldn't that be sort of weird if I just went over there and offered to shovel her snow?"

"Would it be weird if she came over here and offered the same?" Corey retorted, pale brows elevating slightly. "You're just being a good Samaritan," she pointed out.

Rolling onto her side, she shifted slightly to regard him. "But yes, I am trying to get rid of you. I'm hiding Dennis in the closet and he needs to make an escape without you seeing him," she teased before she stuck her tongue out at him.

Obviously, that was a fib. She'd been out all morning anyway.

Well, he thought it would be kind of weird if Rory came over and offered to shovel their drive. Mostly because she was a woman and he was a man perfectly capable of shoveling his own driveway -- though he knew that was a little bit sexist.

He kept that to himself, though. He didn't think he was better at shoveling driveways just because he was a man -- he just thought of it as his job since he was. Shaking his head, mostly at himself, he arched his brows.

"If he's naked in there, you better wash anything of mine his body touched," he teased back before he pushed himself up into a sitting position. "But yeah, all right. I guess it wouldn't hurt to be a good Samaritan."

"His whole body, or just parts of his body?" she inquired innocently. Well, as innocently as she could around a yawn. Yes, the floor was looking more and more comfy every minute. Just a little nap, here by the warm fire wouldn't hurt anyone. Certainly wouldn't hurt her.

"Besides, if he was naked, I doubt he'd be in the closet. He'd probably be sprawled on my bed or something. Just waiting for me." She teased because she could; really, she hadn't done much more than kiss him. Between her trust issues and coping with being with someone other than Roland ... things were going slow. Sometimes she worried Dennis thought they were too slow, but dammit, she had issues.

"Any part of it," he confirmed, maturely sticking out his tongue at her as he eased off the couch. Stretching his arms above his head, he gazed down at her with a light smirk.

It was still strange, thinking about her with another guy, but he thought it was for the best. They could have somewhat normal, stable lives now and if she liked Dennis, well, he really just wanted her to be happy.

"Thank you for that image. Really, I appreciate it," he teased with a shake of his head. "You need anything before I go? Want me to haul you to a bed or are you going to nap on the floor?"

"Nap on the floor," she mumbled. "Or you could kiss me and see if that woke me up," she teased him faintly as she half-opened her eyes to peer up at him through her lashes.

While she didn't really expect him to, she wouldn't protest it, either. She was still somewhat torn on the matter of what - if anything - to mention to Dennis about her relationship with Roland. She supposed it wasn't really any of his business, but... she'd see. If they got really serious ... she'd see.

Roland chuckled quietly, "Seems rude to wake you up if I'm going to leave," he pointed out, but even so he made his way over to her spot on the floor and groaning faintly as he eased onto his knees next to her.

Cupping her cheek, he pressed a soft, but brief kiss to her lips, unsure exactly where he stood on the matter as well. He wanted her to be happy with another guy, honestly, but it was difficult to let go at the same time. "See you later, Sleeping Beauty," he teased as he pushed up to his feet, "though if you'd rather be Cinderella or something, you could clean the house."

"Yeah, but if you don't wake me up, I might stay here and catch on fire," she teased him before she returned his kiss softly. Patting his thigh lightly, she grinned up to him.

"Dress warm," she said wickedly before she sat up. "The wind's pretty bad out there. And I think I'll stick to being Sleeping Beauty for now. Maybe Cinderella will come over later."

"I'll tell Rory that I'll shovel her drive if she cleans my house. That'll go over well, right?" He smirked, amused, as he found his boots and stepped into them. After lacing them up, he found his heavy coat and pulled it on.

With a final wave, he left the house, grabbing the shovel and a bag of salt in case there was ice to deal with as well.

Crossing the street, he glanced towards Rory's front door, but couldn't quite bring himself to knock on it. He decided it would have felt funny and awkward asking if she wanted him to clear off her driveway so he just made his way to her snow covered drive and started to shovel it. He could be a good Samaritan without announcing it to the world.

Inside her house, Rory frowned. Reaching for the remote, she muted the TV and listened. Definitely a noise outside.

It sounded like ... someone shoveling her driveway.

Swinging her legs down from the coffee table, she shuffled her beslippered, robed self over to the front door.

Unlocking it, she leaned out and waited for the gust of wind to die down before she called out. "I was going to do that, you know."

She looked dressed for it, too.

Roland paused when he heard her voice and turned to face her, burying the tip of the shovel in some snow as he regarded her, trying not to smile. "Dressed like that?" He asked doubtfully.

His eyes briefly swept down her robed body before returning to her face and he held the shovel out towards her, a look of mischief spreading over his features. "You can take over if you want," he offered helpfully before he shrugged his shoulders and lowered the shovel once more, "but you do a lot so ... and I wasn't doing anything."

He squinted slightly and shifted his weight. So far, he didn't think he was very good at this. Whatever this was.

Rory quirked a brow at his question before she smirked. "Was going to put some boots on," she shot back.

She really had been planning to get around to it ... eventually. But the day had seemed better spent on the couch in her robe watching daytime TV.

At least it looked like the snow was letting up.

Opting to ignore the comment about how much she did - she'd resigned herself to it, sure, but she didn't like to be reminded of it - she simply nodded.

"Come inside when you're done. I can at least give you some coffee or hot chocolate or something."

Roland grinned in response to her putting boots on, a light nod dipping his chin. He thought shoveling snow in a bathrobe and boots would be more amusing than it should be.

"Thanks," he replied to her offer of coffee or hot chocolate. "Coffee would be great. Should I ... knock or just come in?" He asked, managing not to make a face at himself.

He realized he was very out of practice being social with anyone who wasn't Corey, but he'd never really had time for it before. They had really only had each other and trying to step outside of his comfort zone was proving to be ... interesting.

A laugh parted her lips. "Just come in. Might not hear you knock if I'm upstairs or in the kitchen," she pointed out.
She studied him a moment longer before she ducked back inside. Making sure the door was unlocked, she headed to the kitchen to start the coffee before she went upstairs to change.

It was probably rude to entertain guests in her robe, after all. Sliding into a pair of jeans and a sweater, she didn't bother with a bra.

Heading back downstairs, she dropped back onto the couch and unmuted the TV to wait.

"Okay," he agreed with a little grin. It did feel strange making nice with an FBI agent, considering many of the things he had done as a hunter, but he wasn't hunting anymore so he tried not to think about it. Sometimes, though, he gave thoughts to becoming a police officer and he wondered what his dad would have thought of that.

Shaking his head, he went back to shoveling until her driveway was cleared and he salted any icy areas that needed it. By the end of it, he wasn't sure if he was hot or cold.

Leaving his shovel on her front porch, he stomped snow off his boots before letting himself into her house, trying to act like he didn't feel just a little bit weird about it. "Hello," he called as he pulled off his coat, looking around curiously.

"In here," Rory called. She'd stood up when she heard the door and moved to the doorway of the den.

Gesturing for him to have a seat, she flashed him a little smile. "So what possessed you to randomly shovel my driveway?" She inquired as she moved to the kitchen to put together a tray for the coffee.

As an after thought, she laid out some Chips Ahoy cookies on a plate in case he wanted a snack, too.

"My sister said it might be a nice thing for me to do," he answered honestly as he followed her into the den and then took a seat on the couch.

Glancing towards the kitchen while she put together a tray for coffee, he grinned and rubbed the back of his neck, "I should have come up with a better reason, huh? Maybe something about what a honorable and helpful guy I always am?"

Honestly, he didn't really know why he'd done it. Maybe just because he didn't have anything to do today and he liked to feel productive. He was pretty sure he was one of the few people in the world who didn't really mind shoveling snow. He kind of liked physical labor; it made him useful and normal.

"Ah," she said, and realized she'd suspected as much. "She seems nice. Your sister," Rory clarified as she set the tray on the coffee table.

"She was doing a lot of good for the ... people they rescued. Nice that the coven got all put together just before all this happened," she continued.

Her dark eyes searched his for a moment before she gestured for him to help himself. "You're their shadow, right?"

Corey had said as much, but Rory was kind of curious what Roland thought of it. All things considered.

"Right," he agreed, busying himself with fixing his coffee. Though it didn't take long for him to add some sugar to it.

Wrapping his hands around his cup, he leaned back against the couch and shrugged his shoulders, "It's weird to talk about it. I've never been able to talk about anything related to witches with anyone outside of my family and now it's ... common knowledge."

It wasn't a bad weird, but it did take some getting used to. Everything about this place did and it was about time he started actually getting used to it, instead of just thinking about it. "Were you familiar with ..." he waved one hand in a vague gesture and grinned, "the supernatural before all of this?"

She just seemed sort of ... used to it, to him.

Rory nodded. "I'm officially part of a sector of the government that deals with it. Which is why I was assigned here when we got the first reports of something suited for our department in the area."

It still did strike her odd just how casual the witches were about it now, though Caleb had assured her it hadn't always been that way. Still, when you're the one who knows what's going on, it only seems right to share, and Rory figured that was Caleb's reasoning.

"How were you familiar with it? How did you know about this side of things?" Rory regarded him before she prepared her own coffee, stirring it slowly before taking a sip.

Roland almost laughed. Obviously the reason he shouldn't take to people was because he gave away too much. Usually, though, he didn't. He liked to think he was pretty good about not saying things he shouldn't, but he'd slipped right up there.

"My father was a hunter," he settled on. That was true and didn't immediately incriminate himself. He didn't know what the FBI thought of hunters, if they were even aware, but he was assuming it wasn't favorable.

"He was killed," he added to circumvent any questions about where their father was now. "Do you guys deal with hunters? Or is that secret FBI business?" He asked, trying to keep his tone light and not suspicious.

Rory shrugged. "If it comes up. For the most part, we only police the non-human side of things. Hunters murdering witches usually wind up as straight murder cases." And more often than not, went unsolved. No one really wanted to get into the supernatural things, so a lot of evidence went undocumented.

"What sort of hunter was he? The kind who killed witches just for being witches, or the sort that only attacked when provoked?"

She imagined she could guess - if Roland and Corrine had fallen into the coven so easily, it wasn't likely their father had been out to destroy any and all traces of magic.

Or they just hadn't followed after him. She had no doubt Roland was a hunter - or had at least hunted - because Corey was one.

"Are those the only two sorts of hunters you know?" He asked, brows arching as he regarded her. All right, it was kind of a teasing question, since he really knew what she meant.

"He didn't kill witches just for being witches," he answered with a shake of his head. Though, he doubted, really, that she wouldn't guess that he hunted also. If she was in the know of things, she would probably just assume that since his father hunted, he had.

Or someone around here had told her. The witches and guardians knew, after all. Nothing seemed to be a secret anymore.

"Anyway, I can't imagine the government likes anyone taking the law into their own hands, but ... this is sort of a different world." Most police wouldn't stand a chance against witches.

She smirked, and shrugged. "No, but what sort of middle ground is there?" She sipped at her coffee again as she studied him. "Did you run into a lot of covens?" It was more curiosity than anything else, and she really didn't expect an honest response. She wondered a little if they could be tied to any of the open cases. Not that she'd follow through on it.

Rory was perfectly aware that some covens needed to be policed, and she understood that hunters were a necessity. She was also aware that accidents happened. She certainly wasn't going to report them ... if it turned out they were part of something.

So she shrugged again to his question. "Officially, no. They don't like it. On personal, individual levels ... it varies. When you've got boys who can do anything and don't give a fuck about consequences, you've got trouble on your hands. Sometimes they need hunters to keep them in line. It is what it is. The magic world has its own rules ... and it polices itself."

"We ran into some," he confirmed with a nod after taking a sip of his coffee. He didn't really know what her definition of a lot was. Running into one sometimes felt like a lot, depending on what happened.

"It wasn't really ... a life that either of us wanted, but, well, it was all we knew," he shrugged his shoulders, holding the coffee cup in both hands once more, not only to keep his hands warm, but also just so he had something to do with them. "Of course someone has a really interesting sense of humor, involving us with a coven."

And really, what was a shadow but a different sort of hunter? He was just hunting for the other side if it came to that. "Are you stuck here until a solution is found?"

She nodded slightly. "But it's hard to pull away when your father and his father and so on have led the life, right?" she guessed.

"It is ironic," she agreed. "Corey seems to be taking to it well enough though," Rory offered. As far as she could tell, Roland was handling it all right as well. It had to be difficult though ... from one extreme to the other.

"More or less, yeah," she agreed. "Until we or they find a way to fix this. At least they've given me more people to pretend to boss around," Rory admitted with a wry grin. "I don't ... honestly think we'll find a way to fix this though. This is far beyond our mundane skills. If this fixes, it'll be because someone found the right kind of magic to do it."

"Pretty much," he agreed. They had been old enough to go out on their own, he supposed, but it felt like abandoning their father. He shook his head at himself. "But yeah, Corey's doing really well. I was worried for a while."

When they first arrived in this town, they had both been a mess and he was afraid she might never come out of it. She seemed to be doing so much better, though, so all in all, he couldn't be too upset over their new situation.

"Yeah, I've got my doubts too," he admitted before he grinned, "no offense." He probably didn't give the government enough credit, but he didn't see how they thought they could fix this without magic or something along those lines.

Rory grinned. "None taken. This isn't New York, but it's starting to grow on me." Unfortunately, though she wondered if that was simply a survival mechanism. She had to like living here, or she'd go crazy.

"Heard from the witches that when it isn't snowing, it's raining. So hopefully you like wet weather," she teased him a bit. "At least it's quiet down here ..." Though she realized if she was here through the summer, she may have to surrender the house to the owners. The hazards of renting.

But summer was still months off, so she wasn't going to worry overmuch about it now.

"New York, is that where you're from?" He asked with some amusement, mostly about the talk of the weather. He'd heard the same thing and while it wasn't really good weather to go on trail rides, they were more or less stuck here.

"Luckily, I don't mind the rain. I even like the snow, but I have to admit I'm getting sort of sick of it," he tipped his head back slightly as he finished his coffee, leaning forward to set the cup back down on the tray.

"Thanks, by the way," he added as he snagged a cookie, holding it up briefly to indicate what he meant. Well, he meant for the coffee too, but still. He knew it was just because he'd shoveled her driveway, but he thought it was a nice gesture anyway.

"Could have something to do with the fact I liked to argue with my supervisor. He's probably glad to have me out of his hair."

One shoulder lifted. "Suppose that's the hazards of dating your boss and having it not work out."

Roland almost choked on the bite of his cookie he'd just taken when she threw in that part about dating your boss, but he grinned as he swallowed and shook his head. "Yeah, I can see how that might have the potential to go ... badly."

He wondered if her boss had really sent her out here for that reason or if it was just a coincidence. He wouldn't really be surprised by either.

"Colorful's one way to go," she admitted with a soft laugh. "Some of them aren't so bad, but ... then there're the others."

Rory set her cup on the tray before taking one of the cookies. Breaking it in half, she nibbled on one point of it before she shook her head at her thoughts. She wondered if she was keeping him here, or if he really didn't mind staying to chat, but she figured if he wanted to leave, he could.

"So are you working anywhere, or ... school?" She thought he might be a touch old for school, but maybe not.

He chuckled quietly, shaking his head. He didn't really use the journals much (or at all), but sometimes he read them and some folks did seem quite ... interesting.

"Working. I'm a security guard for Spencer's," he shrugged, "but I've been thinking about police work. It's something I've thought about before, but we've never really planned on living in one place long enough for it to be worth it."

Not to mention, some of the things he'd done as a hunter, but he didn't have a record. "I don't really know how well that would mix with being in a coven, though," he admitted, unsure why he was sharing all this with her.

"Suppose you've got to stick around here now, huh?" Rory said. Which she supposed was a dumb question - of course they did, if they were part of the coven.

Maybe she'd be stuck here indefinitely as well. Or maybe she'd actually want to mo-- no, that wasn't happening.

"Well, if you do want a leg up into the local police force, I could drop a good word or two for you," she offered. "Like, he's my neighbor. Doesn't have loud parties. Already experienced with handguns."

She shrugged a little. "Don't see why it would be a problem. Might even be an asset, to have someone on the inside to smooth over any bumps," she continued thoughtfully.

"Yeah," he agreed. Though, none of the coven was really used to being a coven and he didn't know if they'd ever be as close as some were, but who knew. Maybe they'd all bond or something.

"I can't decide if I think that would help or hinder me, but I appreciate the offer," he replied teasingly, a light grin on his lips.

But maybe he'd look into it seriously. If Rory didn't think it would be a problem, well, surely that counted for something. Suddenly he wondered if he was bothering her and he scratched the side of his neck, "I... should probably go. I don't want to ... impose and all that."

Rory oh so maturely stuck out her tongue at him. "I'll have you know, the local police force likes me just fine. I've never keyed any of their cars." A wicked grin tugged at her lips.

When he mentioned imposing, she gave consideration to pointing out that he wasn't ... but she really should get some work done. Now that her driveway was clear, she had no reason not to pop out to the field and see what was going on out there.

"Sure," she agreed. "You're more than welcome to shovel my driveway the next time it snows, too," she generously offered.

Roland grinned, pushing up to his feet. He realized he wouldn't have minded her making up some excuse for him to stay, but it was just as well. He didn't want to overstay his welcome and he had to work later anyway.

"I might follow through on that, but now you've got me trained to expect cookies in return," he pointed out as he put his coat back on.

"I'll see you around," he hesitated, "Rory? Or do you prefer Agent Marshall?" He finished with a teasing smile.

"I'll be sure to have some on hand then. I might even actually bake them instead of just buying the kind that come ready made," she teased back.

A grin tugged at her lips. "Rory's fine. If you called me Agent Marshall, I might have to gear up to kick you or somethin'. Usually the only people who call me that are my bosses when they're about to tell me all about how I didn't follow the book again."

It was a surprisingly frequent occurrence, though never really bad enough to get her in any serious trouble.

"Rory it is," he agreed with a grin, not that he really expected her to kick him. Well, maybe she would; he supposed he didn't know her well enough to assume if she would follow through.

"I'll see you later," he murmured, his chin dipping in a light nod before he made something of an awkward motion towards the door and then began to show himself to it.

Glancing back at her, he smiled and let himself out if she had nothing else to add.
