RP: Closing the Gate
Who: Caleb, Chase
Where: Putnam's field
When: Dark times, January 29, 2010
Rating/warning: Snark? Attitude? Hot man on man action?
Summary: Chase and Caleb attempt to close the hell gate.
Status: Private, ongoing

Caleb was aware of all the missing people that had come up in the journals. There was no reason for him to think they'd gone anywhere but home, and he was firmly of the mind that that was exactly where they were. He was not going to panic about it. The anomaly was reversing himself, that was all.

At least, that had been all until he'd seen Ashley was missing. This was her home, so that flawed his theory. He just really, really hoped she'd decided to take off for Atlantic City or something, and wasn't actually wherever the rest of the missing people were - because that would make them not home, which would mean they were somewhere else.

He hoped Chase knew something about it that could allay his fears and tell him 'yeah, sure, Ashley took off for an early weekend for no reason' and that would be that.

Caleb wasn't seriously harboring much hope in that department.

With his hands shoved into his pockets, Caleb crunched his way across the field through the snow. He ran one hand down his face and through his hair before shoving his hand back into his pocket. He wasn't sure how long he'd give Chase before he called the other witch, but if something really was wrong with Ashley, he wasn't sure if this plan was going to work so well.

Caleb sighed, but he knew that was closer to the truth. He did refrain from quipping about holding hands. Instead, he focused like Chase was and began to run his power along the ground to find the cracks. Not that there were any physical cracks to be seen ... it was more weaknesses and holes in the fabric of reality separating Earth from Hell.

He seriously wished he was not having to deal with this bullshit - but he was, so he would. He and Chase were the strongest ones, and he'd age himself a few months for the good of the town.

Even if they'd never know and never thank him for it. What was a few months, anyway?

Sweeping his dark gaze back and forth, he pointed his power at every crack or weak spot he saw, closing them up or at least coating them over with power so things would stop leaking out.

It was easier than he thought it might be, Chase able to focus and follow along those invisible cracks with his magic. Immortality helped, of course, Chase not having to worry about how much this was going to age him. It meant that he didn't hold back at all, that he poured as much magic into this as he could, and he made damn sure cracks were sealed before he moved on to another.

Combining his magic with Caleb's felt odd, but he wasn't above admitting there was a strength to it. It was something he knew he couldn't accomplish alone, mortal or not.

"I didn't mean for all of this to happen," Chase commented after a while. "When I broke out? I didn't know it would lead to this."

Caleb remained silent while they finished the field. "I know," he conceded quietly to Chase once he'd stopped pouring magic onto the field. Hopefully, this would be the end of the influx of demons and they could start focusing on finding Ashley. Caleb honestly wasn't terribly concerned about the others, but Ashley belonged here.

He wondered if they could completely rule out kidnapping; she had a couple of exes she'd had bad break-ups with that might have come back up this way. Still, the timing was ... coincidental. It made more sense that she'd somehow vanished with the others, which meant they didn't have a goddamn idea where to start looking.

He shuddered and rolled his shoulders before he shoved his hands into his pockets and tilted his head to regard Chase in the light of the full moon.

"How do we know this is enough?" Chase asked, looking at him. What if their magic wasn't good enough and the cracks opened again? There really wasn't a way to keep an eye on it all the time. They could check from time to time, but it was something they had to use their magic to see.

He sighed, glancing at the ground as if expecting to see something there. "This is all my fault," Chase finally admitted, muttering it under his breath.

"We don't know," he admitted. "Not for sure." Caleb shook his head, gazing toward Chase curiously. This was certainly a different side of him. While he thought it might be a ploy, he didn't think so. Fool him once, and all that; he wasn't going to fall for Chase's bullshit again.

"It's not ..." He ran his fingers through his hair. "Not your fault. You didn't plan this, right?" Caleb studied Chase, but he didn't think the other witch had.

And even if he had, he didn't think Chase was responsible for Ashley going missing. Which, of course, was the next thing on the agenda. Finding her, and all the other missing people.

Caleb sighed again. Just when he thought things might be calming down ...
