WHO: Sam Thompson [USA] and Javier Diego Amaya [SPAIN]
WHAT: Sam and Javier settle their differences like gentlemen
WHEN: Shortly after this
WHERE: Cafeteria
STATUS: Partial Log, open to bystanders and interceders alike.
SAM: Mariana had tried to explain that it wasn't Javier's fault, but there were no soothing words nor temporal distortions that could quell the rage of an American scorned. Sam had stormed across campus, demanding the location of a certain Spaniard from every student he crossed, until he finally traced his quarry to the cafeteria room. The twin doors to the room burst open as Sam barreled through, his face red with anger. A quick scan was all it took to spot Javier at his table, and he was off - stomping forward with teeth clenched. “Amaya!” He bellowed as he approached, and there was little question as to if his intentions were violent or not. His fists were already clenched, ready for battle. JAVIER: Although he knew Mariana had to talk to Sam at some point, he didn't know when it was going to happen, or what the fall-out was going to be. He wasn't sure what Mariana was even going to say to Sam -- he'd never had to break up with a girl before, not really, and definitely not under these dubious circumstances. He felt bad knowing that she had to face him alone, but he couldn't get involved without making everything worse. Not, however, that it seemed to matter. Hearing someone shout his name caught his attention; he looked up from the table where he was eating with a handful of his teammates, suddenly alert, and frowned when he realized it was Sam shouldering his way towards him. His heart rate picked up, but it was with as much anticipation as tension. This wasn't the sort of thing he usually did. Javier didn't start fights. But he'd been in his fair share backing up his cousins and he'd trained hard for the rescue mission, and despite himself, he'd itched for a chance to square off against Thompson for a while. Shoving his chair back, he stepped away from the table and held his hands up. If there was one thing he wasn't going to do, it was throw the first punch. "Go ahead," he said coolly, his voice raised to carry across the distance still between them. "Try it." SAM: The last thing Sam needed was an invitation; if anything it only infuriated him all the more, seeing that his foe was entirely unrepentant for his heinous crime. The American wasted no time in lurching forward, sending his fist flying for Javier’s face. “Kiss my girlfriend, asshole!?” He snarled as he threw the punch, just in case anyone was unclear as to the nature of their dispute. JAVIER: His power kicked in without needing prompting: he saw himself dodging, and the moment his vision ended, he warped through space to reach that position. By the time Sam finished the extension, he was well out of the path of Sam's blow and prepared to do it all over again. They'd faced off once, during the egg challenge. He'd made a lot of progress with his power since then. "She's not your girlfriend anymore." At the time, yes, but -- he'd backed off, hadn't he? He just needed to prove to her that she was making a mistake with Sam. "Look, you want to fight me, fine -- but she made her choices, sí?" He stepped back, further from the tables. Running away wasn't an option, but starting a brawl in the middle of the cafeteria... SAM: Sam stumbled forward as Javier blurred out of the way of his fist, his momentum nearly sending him to the floor and also demonstrating just how hard he’d intended to punch the Spaniard. He managed to catch his footing and whirled around, every muscle in his body tensed and prepared for combat. “Oh, why am I not surprised?” He sneered derisively, more or less ignoring whatever Javier had said in favour of his own anger. “The kind of man who would go after another guy’s girlfriend is obviously the kind of guy who wouldn’t fight fair. C’mon,” Sam goaded, lifting his fists to face level, feet parted, the classic street boxing stance. “Let's do this. No powers. Just you, me, and the body cast I’m about to put you in.” JAVIER: Fight fair? Javier stared at him. True, using his power gave him an advantage, but it was one that he damn well needed. Sam's muscles were twice the size of his own. If he'd taken that hit, he might have been unconscious already. He couldn't win against Sam in kickball or combat. He couldn't even compare. Sam could probably kill him and looked like he wanted to. What the hell was he supposed to do? "Fine." He had to trust his training. But he wasn't a boxer: he brought his hands up, but loose, not in fists, and when he moved forward, it was with caution, not a headlong lunge. He was less eager now. Wanting to take on Sam was one thing, actually fighting him was another. Feinting at Sam's fists, he stepped sideways and went for a strike to Sam's torso, below his guarding elbows. SAM: Sam had plenty of hand to hand combat training; he knew the strategy on an academic level, but at this point he was fighting on pure emotion, like a freight train. When Javier began his cautious move forward Sam hurried to meet him, walking himself right into the torso strike just to get into punching distance himself. He grunted as Javier’s fist connected with his ribs, immediately following it with a trio of quick punches. He didn’t have the same momentum behind them and now Javier’s defenses were up so they weren’t the same haymakers as he’d tried to lay before, but they didn’t look like a walk in the park either. Sam finished his assault by ducking low, no doubt taking a couple easy snaps to his exposed head while in the process of wrapping his arms around Javi’s midsection and charging him forward, sending his opponent crashing over one of the dining tables. |
