Who: Theodore Nott [Grab-Me!] and Rodolphus Lestrange
What: A deal.
Where: Knockturn Alley
When: Thursday night
Rating: Mid

Knockturn Alley wasn't so much a planned street, as it was the space left between the crooked, badly placed buildings of Diagon Alley. It had grown up slowly in the shadows with narrow passageways that turned sharp angles and dark doorways that hid the people that drifted into it.

At night it became a hunting ground.

Tonight, the predators stalked from above.

A puddle that had nestled itself into a dip in the cobbles began to freeze over as the temperature of the air dropped, and the cobbles turned slick. It almost felt darker, if possible. The lamps that lit the area dimmed, and the magical flames within flickered warnings of light everywhere.

And stepping out of the shadows came the prey.

Theordore Nott.

Five Dementors felt his presence. They waited until he reached a section of the alley without doorway or window before descending down upon him, hands outstretched, coming in from either side to pin him like rat in a corner. And the sound of footsteps across the cobblestones approached.

Rodolphus sighed and picked his glass of wine off the table, sipping it thoughtfully. Nothing else in the room moved except the silver patronus, slowly circling the table, chair, and it's occupier. Finally, Rodolphus placed the glass down and looked at Theo.

"Mr Nott, I have an offer to give you. Something you should consider yourself lucky to be receiving. The offer is this," He said, voice continuing to stay level, despite the raging urge to torture Theodore into insanity. It would be so easy...

"I require Draco Malfoy's location. Not only do I wish to know where he has run off to hide, I wish to meet with him. To bring him here. I've much to discuss with him, and his recent refusal to attend has left me... insulted.
I know you and he were together in Slytherin. I know you and he were probably friends, if not close acquaintances. I know that, if you have even a sliver of intelligence, you could lure Malfoy out into the open. That is what I want you to do. I want you to put him where I can get him," Rodolphus explained, "Ah. But what is in it for you? Well, at the moment, the most important thing would be freedom, because my friends here are so very hungry, and they're positively begging me to leave you here for them to feast on-" He tilted his head toward the Dementors, who stirred behind the barrier of Rodolphus' patronus.

"But also, I'm willing to offer you power. Nothing like the petty promises of Voldemort. Something far more solid. I can offer you command of an army. Slaves or servants. And, of course, somewhere to live that isn't the hovel you currently reside in. Something far more suitable to one of my allies. All if you join me, of course.
And all I ask, is to bring me Malfoy. Simple. I don't even require you to fight for me."

As Rodolphus indulged (Theo knew having a drink would just turn his banging headache into that migraine he was trying so hard to avoid), Theo watched the way that the man's Patronus moved, shifting lazily around them like it was real and they were just figments of it's imagination; it was strangely relaxing.

Theo almost found himself yawning as the snake's movements lulled him towards the siren call of sleep that had done nothing but conversely keep him awake the past few weeks (he wasn't thinking about Europe at all) but he was once again roused by his captor.

He blinked, looking up and away from the snake and trying to focus on Rodolphus as he spoke. Manners weren't expensive to use after all. He was a very good boy and he paid attention like this was one of Professor Snape's potions classes, or some life-hardened wizard sitting on a wicker chair during another insomniac night in India dispensing secrets about spells that would probably die with him, a secret life that Theo had never known.

He looked over at the Dementors when they were mentioned and briefly wondered if they'd be angry enough at his slim pickings to take it out on Rodolphus himself - and how had the man managed a Patronus anyway? - but that train of thought derailed prettily for the next one.

He shrugged once the offer had been laid out. "Sorry Rodolphus, but that sounds like too much work for no payoff. I'm not interested in power. I don't care enough to order people around and I'm not that attached to material objects that my little room bothers me; it's got a bed, that's good enough. Besides, I would have thought that with all your intel about me at school you would have known that I was never one for joining gangs. I'm really sorry, it just doesn't float my boat." he answered with, by this point, unsurprising sincerity. And yeah he was probably going to die now, but he felt that twenty two years was a pretty good run for someone of his background and failings.
