Entry tags:june2002, miles bletchley, rodolphus lestrange

Who: Rodolphus Lestrange and Miles Bletchley
What: A meeting of minds
Where: The Death Eater Safehouse
When: Wednesday night. 9pm sharp.
Rating: Low?

A faint mist drifted across the floors in every room and every corridor. The whole place was frozen, and lit dimly with candles. Shadows that flickered against the walls would turn suddenly and reveal themselves to be the Dementors. In the centre of a large room the dining table was set for two, a place at either end.

Rodolphus sat at the head, a glass of red wine held lazily in his hand. Behind him hovered the largest of the Dementors. The edge of the room was lined with Dementors, and around the parameter slithered a silvery patronus in the form of a snake.

"Rigby," Rodolphus said softly, tilting his glass. A house-elf, scared and shivering crept across the room.
"Y-yes sir?"
"Please go and greet our guest."

Somewhere in the house, a clock chimed nine.

"Indeed. But things worth doing are never easy," Rodolphus replied, eyes studying Miles' face for any hint of the inner workings of his mind. A tiny sliver of insight to know just how far he could push this new protégé.

"One other thing... I, unlike our previous leader, do not fear Harry Potter. I don't spend my every waking moment thinking about how I wish to kill him. But, I must admit, he is bothersome," He said. He began tapping his fingers softly on the table.

"His very existence is a beacon of hope to muggle-borns and blood-traitors alike. As long as he lives, everyone assumes that we will fail, that they are strong and we are weak. Potter is a something I would very much like out of the way. But to ask you to perform such a task is asking too much. No. I want you to get closer to him. Befriend him, if you can."

A cruel smile curled on his lips, "I wish to learn all I can about the Boy Who Lived. I want to know where he lives, where his loved ones live, what he prizes most. I want us to tear him apart piece by piece, if we can. I want to bring him down as low as he can possibly fall."

"But! If you ever get the opportunity Bletchley. Kill him."

It seemed a contradiction- to say in one breath that he was not obsessed with Harry Potter, and in the next to order Miles to infiltrate the boy's life and kill him, if possible. "I agree that Potter is troublesome, and a rallying point for our opposition- he is, however, not an idiot. If he was, he would have been killed long ago."

Miles paused a moment, trying to gather his thoughts. He was no one's protégé- he was his own man, working toward the same end with Rodolphus, not for him. "I am years older than Potter- even my fiancé, who is closer to his age, would have difficulty getting close to him, due to his bias against our former House affiliations. Potter is a closely-guarded person, no doubt with good reason. Anyone attempting to enter his life- especially someone of my background- would be met with immediate suspicion and hostility. Were I given the opportunity to kill him, I would- however I will not so blatantly risk my life and my livelihood, and that of my fiancé's, simply to take down one man."

"I agree that it is improbable that you yourself would be capable of getting close to Potter. That was foolish sentiment on my part, but there must be someone we can use to get to him. He must have a weakness, or a gap in his armour," Rodolphus pressed his fingers into a fist, "He is barely an adult."

He stood up and paced slowly around the table, his Patronus accompanying him on his journey whilst the largest Dementor remained where it was, unmoving.
"He will be the biggest opposition of our take over. He will take it upon himself to challenge us, mark my words, and he will drag others with him. We must do the same. We must find witches and wizards that can be controlled and do just that," Rodolphus murmured, almost as if he were merely thinking aloud.

"There will always be those who are willing to stand against Potter and his allies- they need only be shown where to turn. They are anchorless now, without Voldemort to lead them- if they were given a new rallying point, our numbers would swell quite swiftly, I'm certain." Which was a lovely sentiment, really- but it wasn't something Miles was going to volunteer for.

Rodolphus smiled and spread his arms to the room. Around the walls, the dementors shifted and the hall filled with the sound of wind through leaves, of gasping breath.
"I'm sure I can prove them with a rallying point. And I'm sure my friends can provide some proof of our power," said Rodolphus, "All we need is to destroy the safety they think they have, and they will run toward us.
People flock to power, so I shall prove that I have the most!"

The largest Dementor turned its head and Rodolphus returned to his seat.
"I feel I shall have to call this meeting to a close Bletchley. It is good to see someone so loyal to the cause, and so willing to assist in reclaiming leadership of the country. I must ask you to take leave. Rigby will guide you out," He signalled to the doorway without looking, and Rigby returned, still shivering and stood beside Miles.

"Search for purebloods, or those with our views. Give me their names if you cannot approach them directly, and I will offer them the things they desire. Oh, and please keep and eye for Draco. I do believe he may have decided to desert us as Selwyn did. That is something I shall not tolerate."
He summoned his Patronus to slither around him and added, "And you, Bletchley, will be rewarded more than you can imagine for your efforts."

Miles wasn't seeking reward here- he never had been- but he didn't particularly feel like arguing that point with Rodolphus at the moment. He had been given leave to go, and he would take it. Standing, Miles nodded cordially. "Thank you for meeting with me," he replied, simply. "We will be in touch." His fox patronus walked protectively around his legs as he turned to leave the room, the house elf guiding him from the house. Miles was glad when he was able to apparate away, back to the safety- and warmth of his own flat.
