Who: Stephen Cornfoot and Astoria Greengrass [Grab-me!]
What: Stephen sometimes ended up in other wards at Mungo's.
When: Friday
Rating: Pg-13 for some medical content.
Status: Incomplete

One thing with St Mungo's was that no two days could ever be accused of being samey. Today, they actually had a full house staff-wise in the Spell Damage Division, whereas Artifact Accidents were pretty damn understaffed. Too many trainees, not enough healers, basically, and therefore not a lot was getting properly accomplished. Because of that, Stephen had volunteered to go to that floor instead, and do a day's work there. After all, he was a trained healer, he could work more or less anywhere, even if it wasn't his speciality.

Besides, he'd been talking to that pretty girl over the journals who was apparently working there. That could work out well, eh?

Right now, he was walking down towards the ward to see what the day had in store for him. He sounded up his own arse, but Stephen was fairly sure he cut a striking figure in his Healer's uniform. He waltzed in, and spoke to the ward matron, who quickly redirected him to one of the busiest areas.

He began to examine a patient who'd clearly been playing too closed to something cured, and was now babbling mindlessly, and had an extremely swolen tongue as a result. He'd seen something like this before, at least, and was almost reassured by the fact. He began working, not speaking much (this guy probably wouldn't understand anyway in his current state) and quickly had the situation halfway under control. At least when the babbling stopped, he'd be able to focus better on everything else.

Astoria had been unprepared for the madhouse that would be the Artifact Accident ward of St. Mungos when she had made her way onto the floor that morning. She paused long enough to look around her usually empty floor and stared in awe. Ofcourse, that only lasted a moment before she gathered herself together, pulled her hair up into a bun, and got to work.

Her day hadn't gotten much slower as time began to pass by. Patients began to blend together as she went from bed to bed, helping where she could. Still a trainee, Astoria wasn't yet trusted to see to the patients on her own. This also meant, as she worked along side some of the actual staff, they'd call out questions for her to answer. Each question had to do with what would cause the malady or how it should be treated. Through all of this, Astoria did her best to not get anyone killed.

Ushered on to the next bed, Astoria stopped short of disturbing the Healer who'd just gotten the babbling man under control. She came to a stop on the opposite side of the bed and chose to watch for the moment. For the better part of an hour, the babbling man had been a constant annoyance and something she had wanted to silence from the moment he'd been brought into the ward. Now, a slight twinge of guilt washed over her as she watched both the healer and the patient.

This was the type of person she wanted to be.

Stephen grinned to himself - at least there was no babbling now. Of course, he wasn't entirely sure yet that he hadn't just silenced the man all together (which would mean more work trying to undo that without bringing the babbling back full force) but now he could stand back and admire his own handiwork.

"There we go, Mr Jenkins." he said, before noticing the junior healer nearby. She was a pretty thing, and whilst he wasn't entirely sure he needed any help right now, a pretty girl was a pretty girl. Though, he couldn't afford to be unprofessional, of course.

"Hello there." He said, with his most welcoming smile.

"Hello." Astoria said, once she'd been noticed and looked from Healer to patient and back again. It was clear she wasn't needed, but this one seemed like a break from the havoc that was going on everywhere else on the floor. That being said, she was hesitant to leave.

"I've never had to deal with someone who had be cursed to be a babbler. Mind if I stick around and learn?" She really had no idea what to say, but she needed a bit of a break. And right now, the babbler had been silenced and that was exactly what this one seemed like.

"No problem, take a seat." He said, motioning to the spare chair, normally left around for relatives. Unfortunately, Mr Jenkins' relatives had gotten fed up with the babbling, and had left. "All I've done, is basically unpicked whatever that curse was. Took a bit of charmwork." he explained. One thing Stephen was good at was explaining things - came from explaining homework to other students back in his Hogwarts days.

"Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I've just silenced him."

When given the okay to linger in the room, Astoria looked to the chair and shook her head. "If you don't mind, I'll stand. They aren't comfortable chairs, but after the day I've been having, if I sit down I might not get back up." Unsure if her small attempt at a joke worked, Astoria stood where she was.

"Well, there is one way to go about this. If you've silenced him, he can't protest a little test.. Now can he?" She asked as she toyed with the idea of sticking the poor man with a pin, but didn't want to tarnish her 'bedside manner' with torturing her patients. "Or, you could always ask him? If he's not silenced he should be able to say something. Right?"
