Who: Alyssa, Death, and Sherlock
What: playing the tables
Where: the casino
When: after this
Warnings: TBD

Alyssa never lacked for style inspiration. The girl wore a black three layer tulle skirt, with purple and pink leggings under a backless sweater that hid the first layer of tulle. With her frosted white butterfly wings on display, complete with colour changing gems, the Netherling knew her skin glittered and she had black markings around her eyes. Hopefully it would distract enough, although her sweater dipped just low enough.

She hadn't spent time with Death or Sherlock, but the Netherling certainly wasn't opposed to making new friends. After all, she needed to meet people besides Wylan, Inej, and Kol. She got to the casino floor and looked around trying to locate the other two, once she got herself an Old Fashioned. In the meantime, she chewed the inside of her cheek, considering how much chaos she wanted to enjoy for the evening. Enough to entertain herself, but not enough to ruin the evening for the other two, she supposed. At least not until she got to know Death and Sherlock better. Chessie decided to go find trouble elsewhere.

Sherlock flashed a smile to Alyssa at the compliment to his outfit, and he adjusted his tie slightly while he considered what he'd order.

"I don't suppose your establishment has laudanum on offer?" Sherlock had to check, even though he knew the odds were incredibly slim. Evidently it was difficult to find outside of the exact time and place where he was from. Sure enough, the bartender shook his head.

"Then a Gin Rickey will be fine, thank you," he said, and extended his thanks to Death as well. It never stopped being a bit unsettling, how she felt so very familiar. Almost as though they'd met before, or perhaps passed each other by.

Don't pull strings, Sherry, Jon sat with his legs dangling off the edge of a slot machine.

While Alyssa liked alcohol, it didn't affect the Netherling like it did humans. It took a lot to get her drunk or buzzed. Now an upper? Her body responded and she'd be high for days. Which explained why the Netherling didn't get high often. Sugar and caffeine generally remained her drugs of choice.

She had not expected to hear the word laudanum, but kept her expression neutral while Sherlock ordered his drink. Given that Alyssa couldn't die, she did not find Death familiar, except in terms of anyone who lived on the TARDIS were vaguely familiar to her.

Once the bartender delivered the other two their drinks, Alyssa grinned. "To a table then?"

Death took a sip of her drink, the bourbon sweet and the orange peel fragrant, and offered a nod. "I've been reliably informed there's a casino right under our noses aboard the ship. One run by Kaz Brekker?" She led the way as she spoke, trusting her charming companions to stay on step ahead of her large wings - which were a little much, she'd admit, but effective in cleaving a path through the crowd of Martian casino attendees.

"He didn't mention what games, but I imagine a little blackjack practice probably wouldn't go amiss?" Death inclined her head toward one such table, freshly vacated as though waiting just for them.

"Is there?" It shouldn't have been a surprise, from what he'd seen of Brekker and what he knew of the ship, containing so many multitudes. Still, an entire casino was a lot to miss and vices always carried with them the propensity to cause crime.

He followed behind, sipping his drink and trying not to let himself get overwhelmed by the sounds and colors, the sights and chiming bells and all of the people. There was so much to notice.

"Now," he said, "if I'm right then this game is called Vingt-et-un where I'm from. French but we can't hold that against it," he joked lightly. "I'm afraid I haven't played, but you'll teach me the rules?" Sherlock asked Death as he helped himself to a seat.

Alyssa always enjoyed the way the orange peel and bourbon enhanced each other in this drink. The addition of orange bitters helped too, of course.

"Oh! I forgot Kaz is running one on the TARDIS." While friends with Inej, Alyssa didn't speak to Kaz much. Alyssa kept pace, careful to not touch Death's wings and keeping hers out as well.

"No, I'm certain a little more Black Jack practice would work." Given Alyssa was fluent in French she nodded. "Yes, it's the same game, as we also call it Twenty-One in English." Alyssa took a seat and adjusted her wings so she'd be more comfortable.

"We won't credit the French with its invention," Death promised, winking, "even if it might be true." She let Alyssa pick her seat, then Sherlock, before taking one as well. Gentlewomen and all that.

"I tend to find one learns best by doing, but if you'd rather sit out the first round while we play..."

Her black tank top and black jeans didn't leave room for sizable pockets, yet between one swing of the ankh around her neck and the next, Death produced two neat stacks of casino chips: one for each of her companions. A third had already appeared before her.

"Alyssa and I can try our luck-" She smiled at the blonde, before catching Sherlock's gaze. "-and you can learn from our mistakes?"
