Something to Do
Who: Colin, Open
Where: Hardware Store
When: Mid morning

Okay, boredom was the last thing Colin expected to be dealing with when he was trapped as a prisoner on a deserted island with wargs and angry little monkeys (if what he read the others' posting on the computer thingy was true). But after making himself something to eat and reading the few posts on the little computer thing, he found out he actually was bored. He really didn't want to explore more, since the wildlife didn't really sound all that friendly and he was more than a little out of his depth on the whole escape aspect.

So he headed to the hardware store to see what was there. Maybe he could build something useful. Like a boat. No wait, building a boat would probably qualify as an escape attempt. So for now, he was sort of standing in the aisles, looking lost as he tried to think of something to build or whatever so he didn't just sit around thinking about being a prisoner and his family and generally freaking out.

Creed wanted to take this day to familiarize himself with the town but his leaking kitchen sink was driving him insane. You’d think he wouldn’t care but he did. He didn’t like that he was here but he wasn’t particularly worried about his environment because for the most part it seemed safe. He didn’t know how much time he had here. The idea of being taken again crossed his mind and he was on edge but because he didn’t like to be stressed out he put it out of his mind. He was going to be on the hunt for some place to go to get a wrench to fix the damn leak.

Again the weather was nice but Creed wore shoes this time. He wandered for a bit not seeing anyone. He wasn’t sure why there weren’t any locals. Creed was half tempted to go into the pub but he needed to fix this problem. If he stopped the leak he’d be able to think clearly. Seeing the hardware sign he strolled on in.

“I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts standing in a row,” he sang rather loudly as he moved around the store. “BIG ONES!” he shouted. “Small ones” he whispered. If there was anyone in here it would be a good way to draw them out.

Colin really didn't notice the door opening, but the loud singing caught his attention. He yelped when whoever was singing shouted, looking around wildly and for something to use as a weapon in case this guy was crazy or something. Which since it was a hardware store, shouldn't have been a problem.

He grabbed a piece of pipe and cautiously headed towards the guy singing. He knew that song. It was from some Disney movie. Yeah. The Lion King. That thought only made the situation weirder.

"Hello?" he called out.

"Hullo," he called back. "Do you know where the wrenches are?"

Creed wasn't sure where the voice was coming from but he'd keep talking to it. "I have a leaky sink." Judging by the sound of the man who responded he thought that perhaps the man was in his mid twenties. A step up from the young Cordelia. Bless her heart but Creed wasn't sure if he'd be able to function if he knew that she and he were the only two here.

Okay, that was an entirely normal question, which seemed really out of place. He moved around the corner to see an old guy standing there. He didn't look so scary.

Okay, Colin set the pipe down. He didn't want the guy to think he wanted to attack him or something. "Uh, wrenches?" he repeated, then looked around.

The explanation caught his attention. "What kind of a pipe an in which section?" This was important, since a leak could be more than just a loose joint.

Creed paused a moment and thought. "That's a good question... I have no idea." He looked at the man in front of him. "I don't know a thing about tools..." Creed thought all he needed was a wrench to tighten the leak and he'd be set. "Though money isn't a concern here I could load up on wrenches?" He wondered just how many kinds of wrenches there were. He was out of his element here but he was sure he'd be able to fix his problem. Getting the right tool was going to be the first step though.

Wait, he was going to fix a leaky pipe, even though he didn't know where the leak was coming from? "Ah, maybe I'd better take a look," he suggested. "I didn't even check to see what kind of pipes we have. Are they metal or PVC?" That made a difference.

Oh wait again. "Shiny metal or white plastic stuff?" he clarified as he headed off to the aisle he'd pulling the pipe from. Yay, something to do.

"Metal." He paused. "I think..." Creed gave a look of defeat which wasn't one he was used to showing. "I didn't bother to look. I thought I'd have to tighten something. You seem to know more about this. Are you a plumber?" Creed wondered what good he'd be around here. An old man, lawyer, he felt useless. Maybe if there was some sort of trial he'd come in handy but he wasn't a very handy man.

Colin shook his head. "No, I'm a mechanic," he admitted. "But plumbers cost a lot of money, so dad taught me to fix simple stuff. Like leaky pipes."

He pulled a pipe wrench from the shelf. "This should work for most standard pipes." He looked at the guy. "Maybe we'll get luck and you're right, all it is is a loose coupling or joint."

Creed could understand where he came from but his father always did the work and so did his brother. He managed to escape manual labor. The most he knew how to do was plunging a toilet. Creed was sure he could do anything in time if he worked it out but right now he felt a fool.

"I don't want to trouble you." His good old English nature stepping in. Creed knew very well this man had nothing to do. No one had anything to do here.

Manual labor was the only thing Colin was ever good at. His grades in school had been average, he never really was interested in anything more than cars and girls. Usually in that order.

He shook his head. "I'm not doing anything useful," he admitted quietly. "So it's no trouble." He offered the older man the free hand not holding the wrench. "I'm Colin. I'd say it's nice to meet you, but-" Yeah. Did he really need to finish that?

That was enough to make Creed laugh but he didn't. He did however give a huff of air that if he hadn't smiled would have come off as a scoff. "Creed," he said as he shook Colin's hand. "If it's no trouble then..." He shifted his stance towards the door. "How long have you been here?" Creed thought if he had information about everyone he met it would put things in perspective. What that perspective was he wasn't too sure. He wanted to take everything one day at a time until he could get a firm grip on his new reality.

Colin shook Creed's hand, then released it. "I don't know," he admitted. "I woke up yesterday afternoon. I was pretty hung over, so I don't remember what time. How long have you been here?"

"I believe we're in the same boat although I wasn't hunger over. Should we?" Creed said as he pointed to the door. "Have you met many people here? Any locals? I'm baffled by how smooth everything runs here and how clean it is."

He nodded. "Yeah, we can always come back for more replacement parts once we know what we're dealing with," he agreed. "I met a girl named Gwyn. She's another prisoner. She made me something for the hangover that worked and we had something to eat and looked around awhile. You meet anybody else?"

"A young woman named Cordelia," he replied as they walked. "I should look in on her. She isn't a child but she is young and must still feel rattled by all of this." For some reason Creed thought the word prisoner sounded funny. He felt much more like a lab rat. He wondered how long they'd stay fat and 'happy' until things would change. Something was going to change it was the only thing that made sense to him. Someone wanted them here for a reason.

Prisoner was a lot more comforting than lab rat. Prisoner almost gave them some control. Lab rats just kind of put up with what was done to them. Because they were helpless. Which Colin really didn't want to think about how helpless they really were.

"Which one's yours?" he asked.
