Good Morning!
Who: Coop and Belle
Where: Mike-3
When: Morning

Coop felt the snug heat of her body against his even before he became fully aware. It must be Monday, his bleary thoughts informed him. There had been no alarm, and, yet, there was sun beating through the glass at his back. His arm tightened around his wife's waist a moment as he shifted, burying his face in her thick hair.

And then it suddenly hit him, and the force with which he sat up nearly knocked him out of bed. Belle was there, all right -- and thank God for that. In her presence, it was easy to believe the attack was a dream, something helped along by the fuzzy, surreal quality the world seemed to have about it this morning.

Not at his best in the morning, Coop almost settled back down beside her, but the sting of metal suddenly seeped into his mouth. What on earth was that, he wondered as his face twisted in disgust. A glass of water, he thought would help -- except that when he moved to get of bed, it suddenly dawned on him: this was not their home.

"Belle," he murmured softly as he reached for her shoulder, stilling the shiver running down his spine. He felt very childlike suddenly, like he had just fallen down the rabbit hole. "Belle, wake up."

Belle's pain always went right to his heart, and he instantly drew his arms around her. He could imagine -- if the situation had been reversed, and he had found her on the floor...

He would have seen red.

"It's alright," he told her softly. But he agreed: why would anyone have any interest in them at all? And in tiny Blackwater? He had liked to think they had more friends than enemies, but, maybe... "We're going to be alright."

For Belle, he had found a calmer voice, more steady and reassuring. His lips touched her head, gently. "Let's see where we are." He wouldn't make her move if she didn't want to, but he knew his wife well: she didn't let anyone push her around -- and Lord help whoever had done this to them when she got her hands on them.

Belle had been too worried about her husband to be angry. Angry would come later, when the shock wore off and she could gather up her righteous fury. For now, she was just glad Cooper was there and being so calm.

"Yeah," she agreed with him. They would. She took a couple of deep breaths, then nodded. That's when she spotted the little computer thing sitting on the nightstand. "Hey hon, what's this?" she asked as she set it on the bed between them.

Coop's broad shoulders lifted in a shrug. "Don't know," he answered as he rose. The window wasn't far from the bed, but rising to his feet meet his head do a strange little whirl he didn't care for. It wasn't a dizzy feeling exactly, but it certainly made him pause long enough to let it pass. This was probably was a bear felt like after it had been found digging in a city trashcan and had been drugged by the authorities.

Coop stepped towards the window, his tall body momentarily blocking the sun as he peered outside. He saw trees and row houses. It was completely unfamiliar. "This isn't Blackwater," he told Belle, a note of disbelief in his tone. Blackwater was in the middle of nowhere with no towns nearby. And, yet, they had been brought somewhere else?

Just what was this about?

Belle started reading the note as Cooper investigated the room. "Oh my God," she muttered under her breath. "It says we're stuck here, and they're not gonna tell why and this last part - do not attempt escape. For each escape attempt made, we will have no choice but to choose and punish one of your neighbors for your crime. This is a community, and all will be held responsible for the actions of one." She looked up at her husband. She knew that part would be worse for him. Cooper would never get somebody else hurt for his own benefit. Neither would she.

That hopeless feeling was starting it again. Belle wrapped her arms around herself and shuddered.

"What?" Coop half-turned towards her, surprised by the words. He had been thinking about their savings. It was practically nothing, but since opening the bar, they had managed to put away a little amount of money. Would that be enough to buy their freedom?

Returning to the bed, Coop settled down beside his wife. One arm went around her shoulders, gently pulling her closer to him, while he other adjusted the computer screen to read the post. His mouth moved soundlessly as he read it once, then again.

It all made...absolutely no sense.

Somehow, she figured it wasn't money these guys were after. They wouldn't have kidnapped them if they were. They didn't have any money and what they did have was wrapped up in their bar.

It didn't make any sense at all...

"We ain't eating their food," she sulked as she leaned into Cooper. "If I have my way, ain't nobody here eating there food. God only knows what they've put in it. Cooking kills most things. I can make it safer."

There, she had a plan. She could take care of everybody else for meals, which would give her something to keep from going stir crazy wondering what the people who'd taken them were planning to do to them.

Cooper didn't bother sharing the swell of pessimistic thoughts that came to mind. He could only guess that if anything was put in the food, cooking it probably wouldn't help. Instead, he leaned down to give her a soft kiss as his other arm lifted around her.

"We would all starve to death without you," he answered her, sincerely meaning those words. She had spoiled him with her cooking, and, if nothing else, it would be a comfort to have a nice, home-cooked meal.

"How many people do you think you'll be cooking for?" he wondered. Asking how many people she would need to feed seemed a bit better than asking how many fellow prisoners were on the island.

Yeah, she didn't want to hear that kind of talk right now anyway, even if she was thinking the same thing. All she could do was try. She returned the kiss and snuggled into Cooper more.

Belle laughed softly. "I doubt that," she said. "I'm not gonna spend all day in the kitchen. I just wanna make sure everybody has a chance for a decent meal once a day." Which was enough really. Not that Cooper didn't know that from their years of roaming around with nothing.

"Don't know, baby," she said. "When I get to the diner to start cookin' supper, I'll post a note on this thingy here and see if people will reply. If you wanna help, you can go see if you can find 'em. I should have everythin' ready by five." She knew Cooper would want to check out the town before he did anything else. Get the lay of the land, that kind of thing. It was just the way he was.

Coop was hesitant to leave Belle on her own, somehow worried she might vanish into thin air while he was away from her side. Reasonably, however, if they wanted to separate them, they would have done it already...

"Sure you'll be alright on your own?" he asked, already knowing the answer. He kissed her once again, soft but intimate. "Five is a long time to wait. If I miss you, I might have to come looking early."

Intimacy came easily to Coop. He loved his wife, and he wanted her to know it -- and he didn't care who overheard. Besides, it made him feel better too, thinking of her being at this diner, waiting for him.

While Belle didn't want her husband out of her sight period, she knew he'd go absolutely stir crazy if he didn't at least take a walk around their prison. Cooper couldn't stay indoors on a good day if his life depended on it. Something like this, no matter how much she wanted to cling to him, she knew better. He'd come back to her, he always did.

"I'll be just fine," she assured her, then returned his kiss. "You better, Cooper Bennett, or else I'll have to come lookin' for you first."

It didn't really occur to Belle that somebody might be watching them. They were pretty much stuck where they were, if the man was to be believed and this was a remote island. Miles and miles of ocean made pretty damned effective walls, especially with the threat of hurting somebody else if they tried to escape hanging over their heads.

"I love you," she murmured, leaning in for another kiss. "It's gonna be all right, isn't it?" Belle needed him to believe that as much as she needed to right now.

"I love you too," Coop answered with a smile. Looking at her, he smiled as he tucked a strand of blond hair gently behind her ear. She had a beautiful face, serene and strong. Belle was the source of his strength. "Of course, he answered softly and with confidence. "There's nothing you and me can't do together, Honey. You know that."

Just as he was her strength. If Cooper wasn't here, she'd be a mess. With him there, she could endure anything. Belle smiled and leaned in to kiss him again.

"I know, darlin'," she agreed. She needed to him to say it. Needed him strong and right there.

For a moment, Cooper was tempted to stay right there with his arms around her all day. Sooner or later, though, he'd be hungry, and he would wish he had let her go long enough to make dinner.

Besides, he really was itching to see this island for himself...

"Ready?" he asked, arms squeezing her gently in a hug. "You've got a whole new kitchen to break in." Belle could work wonders with any kitchen, but she would probably poke into every nook and cranny before she was done. She wanted only the best.

Belle would have gone for that except they'd both have gone stir crazy. She sighed and nodded, looking down at her rumpled clothes from the night before. "Gotta shower and change first," she pointed out.

Well, they could take a little longer, she supposed. Yeah, it was a horrible thought since they'd just been kidnapped to God only knew where. But she was also so glad he was all right and there, especially after the scare the night before that she wanted that reassurance.

"You comin'?" she asked as she climbed off the bed in search of the bathroom. Her invitation was obvious.

If it was anyone's business but their own, Cooper would share this as an example as to why Belle was the perfect woman. The invitation aside, she was as cool as if they'd awakened in their own bed.

And, well, there was the invitation. She was really some woman.

Easing himself off the bed with a grin, he chortled softly. "You know I can never resist you." Even if he wanted to -- and he never did. Lifting his hands above his head, his shirt was peeled off -- it landed behind him on the bed somewhere in a little ball. They'd worry about cleaning up later.

She's had her moments of panic and hopelessness. She still had her Cooper, which made all the difference in the world to her. As long as she had him, Belle was certain she could face anything.

She was his woman, in fact. Lucky man.

Belle smiled at Cooper's confession of not being able to resist her. It'd be good for both of them. Relieve some of the tension that was already building. She starting humming softly as she shed her clothing and got the water ready.
