Crazy Conspiracy Theories
Who: Cath and Eden
Where: Uniform-1
When: Late morning

He had no idea how he was going to begin to explain this to Eden. It was madness, but it was the only conclusion that could really be drawn given the circumstances. Especially since he wanted more than anything to be wrong. God please let him and Jamie have gone utterly mad.

Cathair let himself into Uniform-1. He didn't see any sign of Eden, but she'd shut herself in her closet as he'd left. Perhaps she was still there.

A quick search of her cottage implied as much. He stepped into the bedroom, his gaze going across to the still mussed bed. As much as he wanted to feel like last night was a mistake, he couldn't. Yes, he felt guilty for fornicating all night long with Eden while God only new what was happening to Drina and her baby. But it hadn't been a mistake and if what he and Jamie thought had happened, there was nothing he could have done either.

Which was what made this all the more difficult. Because no matter what last night was, it had only strengthened the connection the two ex-terrorists had formed. It made him feel it was his responsibility to bring the issue to Eden.

Made him feel like in some irrational way, she was his. Which was both comforting and insane in equal parts, considering he'd only met the woman four days ago.

Cathair settled on edge of the bed, trying to make as little noise as possible. When the beating of his heart when she'd woken up with him had been nearly deafening, than he imagined he didn't need to be in the closet with her for her to hear him.

"I went to Drina's cottage," he explained quietly. "It was a shambles. And one of the windows was broken out. Something burst out of it. All the glass was on the outside." He raked his fingers through his hair. "In her rubbish, was a bandaid just like yours."

She was trying to think of it as preternatural... That gave it a better ring than unnatural. Eden winced a little when she heard him get up and approach the door. She should've opened it instead of mumbling through it.

Eden opened the door then just a smidgen - just to let some light in and let her voice out. Her fingers curled to the doorframe and one eye peeked out from the crack. "Her...? Her what? That burst out? I don't understand." She was whimpering, on the verge of tears. It was just so much. All the sounds and the headache and his being cryptic. "Speak plainly or not at all, Cathair."

Saints, she sounded like she was going to cry. Cathair cast his gaze heavenward. "There was no sign anybody forced their way in, and the door was locked fast."

Speak plainly. "We were right, Eden," he told her. "They are building an army. An army of monsters." Yes, it sounded insane to even say it. But all the pieces fit neatly into place. They were being experimented on like lab animals.

Truth was often stranger than fiction. Both of them knew that all too well.

Eden frowned a little at that small revelation. Okay, so someone had been in the cottage with Drina... That was all.

Except that Cathair had more to say. An army... Of course it was an army - that much was obvious. But an army of monsters? Her jaw worked back and forth for a moment and she stared out through the crack in the door in silence for a long moment. "What do you mean monsters?" He hadn't really told her about the wolf tracks after all.

"There were more of those huge wolf tracks," he explained heavily. "In the house, outside the window, leading away." Cathair looked over towards the cracked closet door. "She had a band aid just like yours in her rubbish bin, Eden. The doors were locked fast, from the inside. She didn't let anyone in, she's a bloody cop. I know it sounds mad, but everything is pointing to it. Drina was the bloody wolf."

The wolves... The impossibly large wolves. And it had come out of Drina's cottage and not in. And the bandaid and... Christ. She couldn't help but come to the same conclusion that Cathair did even if she thought it was impossible. No, there had to be some other explanation. It couldn't be this. It was impossible. "You are mad. Madder than me even. That's fucking impossible." The door (quietly) snapped shut then and plunged her back into darkness.

"Saint, I hope I am," he agreed tersely. "I'd like nothing more to have gone completely off my nut. But if I'm not, you deserve to know."

Cathair shook his head. "Remote island, mysterious kidnappings, skin samples, and suddenly you've got better hearing than a wolfhound," he pointed out. "One of ours disappears in the night and our bloody mad jailer gloats about her contribution. It's like we're living in a bad sequel to the bloody Island of Dr. Moreau."

Eden growled a little in annoyance at his insistence that this was something becoming supernatural. "Stop it! Shut up!" She rubbed her face briskly with her hands, squeezing her eyes shut. "This isn't possible! It can't be. If it is then every time I've put someone away or what ever for killing an animal they claimed was an evil shapeshifter..." She trailed off, not even wanting to go that route. Africa was a superstitious country and that happened more often than not. She'd even heard a story about Nigerian police holding a cute little goat in custody as a suspected robber who shapeshifted...

Cathair didn't believe in evil spirits or even demons. Men were all too capable of being evil without help from the nether world. He was talking about mad bloody scientists making monsters through technology. If they could clone a goat, what said they couldn't change a person into a wolf?

He scowled at her, frustrated himself. "I'm not talking about evil spirits or faeries," he reminded her. "I don't believe in that rot. We're being experimented on, and God only knows what they're planning. But they wouldn't have you or me here if their intentions were altruistic."

Once more she opened the door, glaring at him fully. "I don't want to talk about this. It's not possible. It's just... some drug or something... That's all." Then the door shut again but rather loud and that sharp, accidental slam is what started her crying after a sharp shriek and her hands being clapped to her ears (which didn't help to be honest).

All right, he needed to stop being daft and making this worse. He needed to shut up and do something useful. For both their sakes.

Opening up the closet, he reached for her. Pulling her into his arms, careful to press her head to his shoulder, not his chest. He didn't say anything, and tried to not even breathe loudly as he held her. Stroking her hair and trying to comfort her while making as little noise as possible.

She was surprised when the door opened again and even more surprised when he pulled her to him. Cathair had apparently given up on talking nonsense about monsters. She settled against him without argument, putting her hand over her uncovered ear. Oh she appreciated it but she couldn't stop crying and her own noise was not helping her stop. God, what in the fuck was she going to do...? She couldn't live like this. She tried to voice her opinion but all that came out was a squeaked, "I can't..."

This was not the time for talk like that either. Cathair shushed Eden gently. Like all things, she'd have an adjustment period to endure. He was praying this was the worst of what had been done to her. He wasn't counting on them being that lucky though.

In the meantime, all he could do was attempt to make it easier for her. If the closet was quieter for her, then that was where they'd stay for now. He shifted her carefully, until they were both inside, pulling her into his lap fully. Luckily, the closets were rather larger than he'd expected them to be. He could even almost stretch out his legs all the way.

Resting her head on his shoulder, he closed the door completely. Now, all she had to endure was the smallish noises they were making. Hopefully, that was enough for now.

She didn't want to have an adjustment period! And what if they just let it wear off then put it back in and so on and so forth? If it really was a drug anyway. Then there would be no adjustment period but simply being slammed with it when ever they so chose. It wasn't fair or tolerable! She'd endured so much in her life and now she had to do it again. She was tired! Eden just wanted this whole thing to be over.

Once more he surprised her as he shifted them both to be in the closet with the door shut. It couldn't have been easy and she was rather heavy considering she was feeling like nothing but dead weight at the moment.

Reaching up with one hand, she settled it on his cheek looking up at him from his shoulder. "You're too good to me, mate," she murmured, "Too good for me even." That might've been a strange thing to say but she was definitely feeling it. There was this strange sense of... belonging with him.

Cathair and everyone else likely wanted this to be over nearly as much. All right, he knew he did, especially watching Eden suffer like this.

It wasn't any more difficult than carrying her across the cottage and trying to kiss her at the same time. It took some work, but if it made her more comfortable.

He scoffed softly at her words. It was nonsense. If anything, she was far too good for him. And yes, he had this strange sense of belonging with her. It'd started when he'd found out how much they had in common and rather escalated dramatically with their night of passion. He didn't exactly jump into bed with every lady who offered.

Eden was different and she was certainly worth a bit of extra fussing when she was hurting so badly.

Apparently he couldn't take a compliment as he scoffed but she didn't really have the energy to argue with him. It'd been so long since she'd felt so close to any man that hadn't been Adam. Not to say that she was in love with Cathair as a few days was not enough to determine that but there was no denying that she would've been positively distraught if anything happened to him.

She turned his head towards her's gently and kissed him lightly to maybe express what she was thinking without words. A kiss was quieter and much more pleasant than trying to think.

He certainly could, if she hadn't been demeaning herself with it. He wasn't too good for her. Now if she'd just left it at the first statement...all right, so he'd have denied that too. Humility and all.

Which was one of the reasons Cathair was doing what he could for Eden. It wasn't love, but there was definitely more than physical attraction involved here.

Well, it was certainly quiet and pleasant. And rather stopped most of Cathair's thought processes in their tracks. He returned the kiss just as softly, one hand moving up to cup her face.

Humility could be annoying but as it was, she didn't exactly care. There was too much going on in her head for her to care about much anything but silence.

Eden settled her other hand over his, pressing in on the kiss for a moment but it was clear that she wasn't really looking for more. She could make a kiss just a kiss - really she could. Okay so the past couple of incidents she'd had a hard time proving that but her head was not permitting for more.

And after a moment, she pulled back settling her forehead against his. She couldn't meet his eyes, afraid of what might be there - worry, fear, whatever.

He could only imagine. Which was why he'd not said anything for awhile. She didn't need more useless noise.

Cathair wasn't either. He was just responding in turn. He didn't want to add to her grief by pushing her away or pushing her too hard. It was also sort of peaceful, away from everything for just a moment.

He just wrapped his arms around her again and held her close. As worried and afraid as he was for her now, for everyone; winding her up more with it would do no good at all.

She might have been able to understand if he had pushed her away - might - but as it was, she was very grateful that he hadn't. If she ever started feeling better, she might show him just how much but she was thinking more along the lines of a proper dinnery... thing. One where she wasn't eating with her fingers.

Eden curled against him and closed her eyes. If she couldn't function, she could sleep. She was just drained as it was - all the emotions inside of her clashing and warring... It was too much.

After that one night, he'd not been able to even if he wanted to. Yes, it might not mean anything to anyone, and it was likely foolish, but the intimacy meant something to him. Which he held it should, really.

Truth be told, neither of them had gotten much sleep the night before and today had been just as exhausting (in a much less pleasant way). Cathair likely wouldn't be able to do more than doze, since he wasn't terribly comfy.

But it was somewhat peaceful in the quiet, dark closet, Eden wrapped in his arms. He could stay for awhile, especially if it helped her.
