RP: A toast!
Characters: Severus, poking Mercy
Time/Date: Oct. 23, after dinner
Location: Their suite
Warnings/Rating: Lowish
Summary: Some low-key stalking. More like lying in wait, actually. *nods*
Status: Complete
Eight fat, green caterpillars and one nice bottle of Merlot later, Severus made his way back to the suite. Once he'd put the caterpillars away, he set out the bottle of wine on the counter in the kitchenette, not bothering to look for a corkscrew. If they didn't have one, he could always remove the cork with his wand. Then he went to his bedroom and the loo in turn, to take a nice, long, hot shower before dinner. He was actually rather glad that Mercy hadn't come along, because he'd gotten rained on quite a bit half an hour after he'd gone out, even if he hadn't seen any snakes. An Impervius Charm could only do so much, however, given the torrential downpour, and he was ... well, quite a bit soggy by the time he'd set off in search of wine.
In spite of the repeated mentions of wine, which had become something of a running joke between them, Severus had no expectations of clothes coming off this evening (apart from before his shower, that was). He had no expectations at all, really. Hopes, perhaps ... dreams, even ... and fantasies, if he were being entirely honest (though he never would have mentioned those to Mercy) ... but nothing whatsoever in the way of expectations. He would like to give her a proper kiss at long last, even if the idea still made him dreadfully nervous, but he wasn't even going to take something as simple and relatively innocent as that for granted. He was merely grateful that he didn't feel he had to avoid her, and his own room, any longer, for fear of being a nuisance.
The fact that she hadn't turned down his subtle invitation to have a toast with him was something of an embarrassment of riches. For some reason, he had expected her to make a joke or dismiss the notion out of hand or ... something. But then again, he'd expected her to turn down his offer of scrounging breakfast for the two of them, and he'd thought he'd heard her do just that, when that ... hadn't been what she'd meant at all. In fact, she'd told him precisely what she wanted for breakfast. Perhaps he ought to apply her suggestion of what to do when he thought she was saying something negative to a broader context than just when she might have been teasing. He'd give that a go, as well, and see how it worked.
After he'd dressed, Severus opened the wine to let it breathe and made himself a sandwich. Mostly because wine on an empty stomach was not a good idea. He was a bit too nervous to actually be hungry. Then he went to his room, again to try to read the book he'd picked out from the library that morning. He hadn't much more luck this time, either -- with reading or eating. The plate with his sandwich lay on the bedside table mostly untouched, and he found his mind wandering, repeatedly, as his eyes still plodded valiantly ahead, trying to absorb something from the book. And, of course, he found himself stopping at the slightest sound, straining to hear, in case that happened to be Mercy coming into the suite.
Yes, he was hopeless, just as he had thought that very morning. But for some reason, now he didn't mind so much.
