Faye's eyebrows furrowed and she turned once again to face him. "Untimely?" she asked, pausing to consider. She knew Halloween wasn't coming up immediately, but it seemed close enough to warrant decoration. Maybe he didn't know how close the holiday was, she reasoned. Or maybe he was confused, and the Halloween in his world took place much later. Given that he was a talking fox, it seemed possible.
"Halloween's only a little more than a week away," she said, shrugging. "There's a store full of this stuff in the mall." As if to prove her point, she slipped a hand into the pocket of her shorts and pulled out a piece of taffy wrapped in orange-and-black striped paper.
"See?" She offered the treat to him, though she had to wonder if there was anything in it unfit for consumption by anthropomorphic canines.
