RP: Bears
Characters: Bears, Harry, Lee, Vance, Luke, Dug
Time/Date: 6 AM Thursday October 21
Location: Old!island, outside the hotel
Warnings/Rating: Violence, maybe? idk
Summary: Bears, yo
Status: Complete

Halcyon was the first to her paws, shaking off the effects of whatever treachery had laid her low. They had been caged, missing their armor, and they were told it was here. That it had been stolen, that those in the hotel had taken it and even now were plotting against their king and kingdom. They had been sedated heavily, and even now she staggered woozily. The world was too warm, and the air smelled stale, unappealing.

She lifted her head and scented the air before shaking her head. Her fur briefly stood on end before resettling, and she crossed to where the six other lay, in various stages of awakening.

Once they were all up and set to go, when the last of them had shaken off all traces of the chemicals muddling their brain, they started in an arrow formation toward the building. They moved quietly, no words spoken between them .. but none were necessary. They knew their goal, and they knew how to achieve it. They wanted their armor, and once they had their armor, they would extract a touch of vengeance on the villains that had stolen it.

They would, of course, attempt to determine which of the humans present had done so before doing anything rash.

Once they reached the door of the hotel, Halcyon stretched up onto her hind feet, but she would not play speaker. Instead, she let her dark eyes turn toward Jan, their acting king in Iorek's absence.

Jan spread his hind legs for balance before he rose up. His front paws rested in front of his chest before he tipped his muzzle toward the sky. "Residents of this hotel. We are the panserbjorne of Svalbard, and we request the immediate return of our armor." Jan remained in his standing position, listening carefully to see if anyone would come out or respond ...

... or if they would have to go inside.

Dug had been sitting in the lobby, feeling blue and worn out. He'd seen the video - a couple of times really - and it had taken a really long time and several conversations with different people before the message really set in that yes, that was really Mistress Lily and Master Severus, and yes, they were hurt, and no - they were not coming back once the doctors fixed them up. In fact, the doctors couldn't fix them up.

He didn't really know why. They were doctors, that was what they were for. To fix people. But apparently, these people were too far gone. Dug didn't really understand, but he knew it was something to be sad about. He knew that because everyone was sad today.

He wanted to go around and try to cheer everyone up, but... even he was too sad to do that. So he slipped his way down to the lobby, and curled up underneath one of the couches to rest so that he could avoid seeing people or talking to people and just... just be sad, really, that he was gone for so long and that Mistress Lily wasn't coming back and Master Didymus and... he was just very sad.

And that was when he heard the noise. The loud, booming noise that sounded like it could be words. And it was accompanied by a faint, but familiar smell.

Scrabbling to his feet, he took off at a bolt towards the door, slipping a bit on the uneven ground. He barrelled into it, grateful that someone had left it open enough that he didn't hurt himself and did slip right through, racing out into the front to be greeted by...

... Strange, large animals?

Dug was confused. He blinked twice, barked once, and then called out, "Hello! Hello! I am Dug! Who are you? Can you speak? I can speak because my Master gave me this collar! I can also bark, too! Listen!" He barked twice more for effect.

Jan glanced to Halcyon, and regarded the other bears behind himself. "Where is your human, dæmon?" It was unusual to see a dæmon without a human, unless they belonged to a witch, and no witch would have a dæmon so low as a dog.

Even he knew that.

"I will not discuss the surrender of our armor with a dæmon," he continued, straightening his back to stand up even taller. He nodded once and gestured with a big paw to indicate the others should move. He listened as five of them peeled off, though Halcyon remained. "Bring me your witch," he demanded to the dog.

It was a guess and a gamble, but as far as Jan knew, this was the situation. Some cowardly witch had sent her dæmon out to deal with them, and that was simply unacceptable.

Luke had just arrived downstairs via the elevator, in time to hear this last part, and he nodded, took a deep breath and stepped out where the bears could see him from the doors. "Hello. I'm Luke Skywalker, one of those who lives here. Dug does not belong to us, but is a member of our community. However, I suspect that is neither here nor there."

He swallowed, having thought about this moment, about being useful, and hoping he could do it right. "We were kidnapped here by others, and they also stole your armor, then hid it. We have found a large amount, but do not know if it is all of it. We have it right here, by the doors inside, where we put it so we could return it to you, if you did show up."

He smiled a little, closed-mouthed. "If you are willing, I will call some of the others, so we can bring it out to you, and thus meet you on open ground. Is this acceptable?"

He felt like he was trembling, and it was only by sheerest will that his legs and arms were not shaking, nor his voice squeaking. Sweat felt like it was breaking out across his brow as he awaited their answer, smiling kindly at Dug as he did so.

Those were big bears. Very, very, very big bears. Lee should have known that from the size of the armor, he supposed, but somehow he had still not been able to imagine the animal that might have filled such pieces of armor. But now he could, and ... those were big bears.

He was not sure how long he simply stood there, his mouth hanging open at the sight, but eventually Lee shook himself out of the surprise and walked forward to join the young man who was talking to the bears. If he had known about the urgent function on his blackberry, he would have posted an urgent message to the network to call the others. But as he did not, all he could do was offer his help to this young man, who should not have to face bears of that size alone.

As he pushed open the door to come outside, he could feel his legs starting to shake, but he kept the fear under control. It was just a different kind of mission, he told himself. One with bears instead of enemy ninja. That was the only difference.

Dug was very curious, and whined softly, trying to edge forward to get a better smell of the bears. They smelled a lot like the armour that had nearly crushed him, and he had a vague wonder if this is what everyone meant when they said that the bears would be looking for armour and that was why they had to find all of it.

He whined again, pawing at the ground, and chasing his tail very briefly. If they weren't so big and scary, he would run right over to them and try to play. It wasn't very often that he got a chance to really play with people around here, and he thought that he'd had his best luck with playing with other animals, and he just wanted to run and bears would be fun to run with.

"I do not know what a daemon is," he told the bears. Luke had answered their questions, he thought - and boy oh boy was he ever glad that they could talk - but he still thought that he wanted to answer them. "And I cannot go get my witch because you hurt her on the other island and people say she is not coming back," he told them scoldingly.

That... reminded him of the sad, and he curled up inward on himself, suddenly finding he really didn't want to play with the bears anymore.

Jan and Halcyon exchanged a look when the dog was joined by two male humans, neither of which was his witch. Even they knew that (except for the extremely rare case) dæmon were the opposite sex of their humans. Jan roared softly, his dark eyes sweeping toward the other bears as they spread around the hotel. There was treachery afoot, he was sure of it.

They listened patiently as the man explained that they were all victims here, and Jan glanced again to the smaller female bear.

"We have hurt no one, dæmon," Halcyon said to the dog, her voice softer than Jan's, distinctly feminine to his more masculine growl. "We have been caged, and put here and told that you and yours have stolen our armor. We have been to no other island."

Jan dropped down to all four paws, and Halcyon followed suite.

He wasn't completely certain he trusted this situation, and he squinted to try to peer through the doorway into the hotel. He didn't think even Halcyon was slender enough to fit through that opening without damaging the structure ... though he might not care if they proved to be playing him false.

"Bring it out," he decided. "So that we may see it is our own truly."

Luke nodded. "We can do that. But you should know, the people who put us here, and probably you too, told us that you killed others of our kind. I believe you in your words, but I thought you should know." The others joining him had been good, and he quickly called Harry, too. He wasn't sure the older man would be needed, but better safe then sorry. He moved inside, to the first piece, a helmet, and started carrying it, staggering out with it.

There had to be a better way. He moved to the second piece, then was glad to see Harry hurry out. He explained, and the two of them struggled out with a second piece. He was conscious of others helping, too.

Harry responded and came downstairs, eyes going wide at the sheer size of the bears, and then nodded. Maybe a little magic would help.

"I can speed this up a little." With a flick of his wand, he started concentrating to help bring out the armor. He was conscious of Vance arriving as he worked, and moving to help with the armor.

So it had been a trick. The bears had not hurt anyone on the other island, and the videos their captors had shown were indeed fakes. Lee started to clench his fist in anger at the injustice of it all, but then he realized the bears might take that as a sign of wanting to fight, and he stopped himself, instead turning to go and help bring the armor outside.

He was strong enough to manage a helmet on his own, even if he did not look it, so that was what he did. Harry-san seemed to have the rest of it under control, anyway. Because not only could he fly (even if he needed a broom), he could make other things fly, too. Amazing. He was almost as cool as Gai-sensei.

Dug was not strong enough to lift the armour, but he did have a good nose and was strong enough to smell it. He was hopeful that he could make sure that each piece of armour went back to the right bear based on who it smelled like, just so that they would not be blamed in case something went missing or one of the bears grabbed the wrong piece of armour and a fight broke out.

He could occasionally be clever.

He was very excited to hear that the bears had not harmed anyone. He thought that they seemed trustworthy, and he was inclined to believe anyone who was being tormented by the people in charge. Activating his collar, he posted a voice post to the network to let others know what was going on so that they wouldn't have to be sad anymore, and let the others assist with lugging out the heavy armour.

Jan watched passively as the humans without dæmon moved their armor out. He stepped forward toward the pile, easily hefting each piece and checking to ensure they were real pieces and not replicas. He trusted Halcyon to watch his back in case any of the humans were to engage in treachery while he was occupied.

He sniffed and snuffed at each piece, banging the dirt off of a helmet before blowing it from the crevices.

It appeared to be there, and he tested the hinges and buckles and bonds to ensure none of them had been frayed or weakened.

His dark eyes played over the men before he lifted up to his hind paws again. This time, he gazed toward the windows; he could see curious faces pressed there, watching the events. "How many do you have here?" he inquired. "How many have no dæmon as you do not?" He dropped to four paws once more as he drew his own armor out of the pile. It would need to be oiled and cleaned, and only then did he wonder how they were meant to return home.

He could smell the water, but it wasn't the arctic water of the frozen north. It was warmer, far from home. "How do we find our way off this island?"

Luke finished pulling and carrying pieces out, then stopped when the bears spoke. He was about to speak before harry stepped up and spoke quietly to him and he turned to him for a moment, then turned back.

Luke nodded and spoke. "I'm not sure what a daemon is, so I don't know if any of us have them, but I believe we're about twenty here, maybe as many as ten more. Our numbers are changed by those who hold us here, all the time, so it's harder to keep count."

He smiled, carefully at that last question.

"Ah, well, as to that, we are captives ourselves. We have no way off the island. The ones who put us here set traps for us, and unleash creatures against those of us who try to escape, leading to many injuries."

He swallowed and managed not to speak the words in his head, that they might be trapped with the group here. Permanently.

Harry had been working in the background with Vance, settling the last pieces, other than talking to Luke once and warning him to tread carefully about giving away too much information. When he and Vance were done, they stood next to Luke, letting him speak, and exchanged glances. Now was when things could get antsy...

Lee watched warily, as Harry-san said something quietly to the other man, before the other man turned to address the bears once more. They would not like that, he did not think -- whispering right in front of them. It would look as if they were hiding something, even if they were not.

He struggled for a bit with one piece that was too heavy for him to drag on his own. If he had been able to open any of his chakra gates, none of the pieces would have been a problem. But here, he could not do that, so he simply had to struggle until someone else came over to help.

Jan was uneasy even as he pulled his armor on, fastening the chain-mail under his belly. Once he was done, he gestured for Halcyon to retrieve hers. They would each take turns picking their armor out of the pile, but in the mean time.

"Do you mean then that we are trapped as well?"

Halcyon paused, her heavy paws resting on the fastens of her armor. Her lips drew back slightly, her large, yellowed teeth bared as she waited to hear what the answer was to Jan's question. If they were trapped on this island, with no way off ... what were they to do? They had to get back home.

She finished fastening her armor and gestured for the next bear to approach the pile as she slid her helmet on.

Luke nodded. "Unless the people who're running this get you out the same way they got you in, it's likely. Tho0ugh..." he glanced around their numbers and size. "It's possible if you can swim, and work well in water, that you could get past whatever traps they have, and make it to some other place, with a better chance of getting home. We're just not built for it, here. None of us, even our most powerful have been able to get out."

He scrubbed his face, worried now. "I wish you hadn't been trapped with us. No one deserves to be caged like this." Regret and sadness filled him, and felt like he could just ignite his saber and cut down the next scientist he saw... the first one, really, since he had seen none.

Save Doctor Banner, who didn't count.

Harry watched the bears get into their armor, hoping they'd accept that the team here didn't know how to get out, and wasn't responsible for this. Even so, his wand was close to hand, just in case.

Vance just swallowed a lot and watched them. He could maybe throw one of them at some of the others, but that would tire him. If this got bad, he really had bad feelings about it.

Even so, a part of him was in awe of the beautiful bears.

"You have to be careful about the white line," Lee added, dusting off his hands, once he had delivered the next helmet. "Bad things will happen if you cross it, but..." He hesitated, casting a glance at Harry-san. "But they will probably take you home anyway, in a week."

That was what Harry-san had said, at any rate: the things their captors threw at them were usually gone within a week. He was not sure if the bears would want to wait that long, but he was also not sure if they had found all of the armor, either. They probably would want to wait until it was all found, if that were the case.

Halcyon moved closer to the door of the hotel, sniffing curiously inside before she swung her now-armored head to regard the men. She wondered if the youngest was threatening them with that talk of the line, and while she wanted to speak up, she would leave the discussion to Jan.

"A week?" Jan said. "They said nothing of being trapped, being held for any amount of time," he growled. His claws dug at the barren earth and he lowered his head slightly as he drew his lips back to bare his teeth fully. "This is treachery," he decided before he threw his head back and lifted onto his hide paws. His forepaws lashed at the air before he landed again.

The other bears took up the growl, none of them pleased with the turn of events. Trapped? Here? On this barren isle that was far too hot for them to exist comfortably on for the entirety of a week.

"Do you have some evidence we will be returned at all?" Jan growled, his eyes lingering between the older male and the one who'd been doing most of the speaking. If they were trapped here for a week, they would need food ... and he smelled no game save the humans. Even the water did not carry the scent of fish or seals or anything edible. It reeked of humanity and barrenness, of death and salt.

Luke sighed. He was afraid this would come up. "No evidence we have physically. Previously, the people in charge have thrown challenges at us, experiments to try to hurt us or break us. We think they arranged this fro the same purpose. Those challenges always lasted a week, give or take a couple of days. But we don't know what they'll do this time. As far as I know, this is the first time they've brought speaking and sentient beings to this place as part of a challenge, so it's possible there is something else they have in mind." He finished speaking and nodded. Please, galaxies, let these beings be peaceful.

Vance swallowed at the way the bears growled. He tightened his hands in his pockets, worried, and afraid he wouldn't be of much use.

Harry's lips were thin with the tension, but he chose to speak now. "We've been trapped for awhile, but they might take you away a lot sooner." Please let them listen to reason.

Okay, apparently that had been the wrong thing to say. The bears had not liked hearing it too much. He should probably ... let the adults do the talking from now on. Except for, "I am sorry," he said quietly, shaking his head. "We would prefer for you not to be trapped here, either."

He would prefer for no one to be trapped here, actually, but it seemed especially unfair to do this to these bears, who were obviously honorable opponents, who had been willing to hear them out.

Most of the other bears were armored up now, and Jan knew how easy it would be to destroy these people here. He roared, his maw opening wide to show off all of his very large, very lethal teeth.

The other bears roared as well, congregating in a loose half-circle around the people who may or may not have stolen their armor and who may or may not be conspiring in this treachery.

The people in charge that were spoken of ... were undoubtedly the ones who had caged them. If they could confine them, was it not possible they had been responsible for the theft of the armor?

Jan glanced to Halcyon before he regarded the others.

"We will explore this place. If we cannot find our own way off, we will return here to seek counsel." He hoped by then there would be more counsel available than 'wait it out'. "We will not survive here a week with no game to hunt," Jan pointed out. It wasn't a threat -- yet -- but simply a statement.

Harry's wand was in his hand as the bears moved closer, and Luke had loosely taken his lightsaber from his belt, not igniting it yet, and with no desire to see if he could kill one of these things, and no wish to do so even if he could.

"I understand. I wish I knew how to help. There is some food that is restocked in the building closest to this one, a little ways off. It has frozen preservation area where food is stored, that might be of use.

Luke smiled a little. "Whatever happens, if we work together, we will be far stronger than if we work apart."

Harry nodded. "If they are like they were with us with you, they will provide you with supplies somewhere else on the island." The else was slightly emphasized, as he'd seen enough looks their way to be quite convinced they might consider him and his as food.

Vance, behind them, was seating and pale. Oh God. He sat down on the floor, and breathed, and hoped these bears would just go away! He forced himself yup again, squaring his shoulders, and nodded. If he did die, he'd die on his feet.

When the two men drew what looked to be weapons, Lee wanted to tell them not to. He would not go for his kunai. Despite the roars, he did not think the bears would attack. Or he hoped the bears would not attack.

Though he did not think what Harry-san said was true. He did not think their captors would have provided game for the bears. If they were as bad of people as they seemed to be, they would probably delight in watching the bears hunt and kill them, and he tried not to shudder at the thought, but it was difficult.

He also thought about saying the bears would be welcome to share their food, but ... he did not think that suggestion would be considered a good one. Otherwise, Harry-san would not have said somewhere else. Hungry bears in close proximity to them might make them decide they wanted raw meat instead.

Jan swung his head to regard the indicated building. Again the door was much too small for them to fit through ... but if that was the only place that held food, then perhaps the humans would have to retrieve it for them if no other option presented itself.

First though, they would see if the ocean was hiding some bounty in its depths that they could eat.

Halcyon didn't miss the emphasis on somewhere else, and she wondered if Jan had picked up on it. Or if it mattered, one way or the other.

When Jan swung his head, she turned and began to walk away. Perhaps the water toward the far end would smell better. If not, they would cross that bridge if they came to it.

"We will be back," Jan said to them, watching the men as his bears passed by them to follow Halcyon. He was half tempted to leave one as a guard, but ... if this truly was an island, they did not have many options as far as places to flee.

"Be well." Luke slowly relaxed as he watched them go. "Thank the Force!"

Harry nodded then turned to the others. "Come on, let's get back inside. I have a feeling we should be ready for a return, and frankly, I'm not sure whether I hope they do come back, and we work something out, or they don't. Because if they do, it's going to be... interesting."

With that, he led the way inside. When everyone was inside, he'd ward all the doors and windows. This would get stranger before it would get less so.

Once they were all inside, and Harry-san had done something to the doors, Lee shook his head. "I am sorry," he said, to no one in particular, even if he really meant the apology for Harry-san. He barely resisted the urge to hang his head, as well. It almost felt as if he had disappointed Gai-sensei, yet again.

"I thought that telling them they would only be here for a week might make them feel better," he added, the beginning of tears sounding in his voice. "I did not think that it would make them angry."

Harry smiled as Luke and Vance moved to clean up and started talking quietly in the kitchen. Harry moved to Lee and shook his head. "You didn't do anything wrong. We were all flying by the seat of our pants out there, trying to make this right. We all slipped up some, and I'm sure some of the others could have done a better job. But you know what? We were the ones who were there, we took the chances, and we did our best. And we'll deal with whatever happens." He moved to clap a hand on Lee's shoulder.

Lee looked up at Harry-san, eyes wide, and exhaled a half-awed, half-ecstatic, "Huuuh?" His eyes brimmed with the tears that had been threatening, and he asked, quietly, "Really?"

Instantly, Harry-san transformed into Harry-sama in his mind. If he had messed up like that at home, Neji might have called him a failure, Tenten would have said what he had done had been stupid and Gai-sensei might have even punched him in the face. But Harry-sama only clapped him on the shoulder and said he would be proud to have him at his side. He could not believe it, and he sniffed, wiping his eyes on the back of his hand.
