RP: You can do it!
Characters: Trini and Lee
Time/Date: Oct. 14, afternoon
Location: Outside, old island
Warnings/Rating: Low
Summary: Training, Lee-style
Status: Complete

"You can do it, Miss Trini!" Lee called to encourage her. "Let the power of youth explode!" he added, clenching one hand into a fist.

Well, she likely would not understand that last bit, but that was what Gai-sensei had always said to motivate him, and it had worked well enough. It was possible that it had only worked because he wanted so much to prove himself to Gai-sensei and make him proud. Still, he had promised Miss Trini that he would not slack on her training.

"Only fifty more! You can do it!"

He continued punching his side of the pole, as well, beaming at ... well, not her, because he could not see her. But he beamed at the pole, approximately where her head would be on the other side. Training with a friend was so much more fun than training alone. That was surely true.

A spar. Trini was not completely positive if she could do a lot to the boy. Sure, he looked young, but it seemed that he was immensely strong for a kid his age. Certainly moreso than any records from her version of Earth would record.

"Forty-three! Forty-four! Forty-five!" The sound of the strikes had a finality to it as they approached their goal. "A spar sounds like a good idea, though perhaps we should agree to avoid facial shots. We are still prisoners here, and I do not know how well they would provide for us medically if we hurt ourselves beyond normal sparring soreness and bruising." Trini was not afraid of a spar with the boy, but there was a certain logic that told her that being careful not to hurt oneself too much was a prudent idea. "Forty-six! Forty-seven!"

"Forty-eight! Forty-nine! Fifty!" Lee cried triumphantly. He immediately launched into his little victory dance, since he knew Miss Trini would not make fun of him for it. She had already seen it several times over the past few days, after all.

"We did it, Miss Trini! We did it!" He jumped up and down a few times, and then staggered around, flailing his arms in a display of sheer joy, before it soaked in that she had said something about avoiding facial shots. "Yes, indeed," he said, finally calming down enough to nod. "We should avoid those." And he would not use his kunai, either.

Trini had a much more subdued response to the completion of however many strikes they did to the pole, which was to touch the five fingers of her left hand to her right hand and bow her head. She focused silently for a moment before she looked up again with a smile. This was usually how Trini responded after meeting one of their goals, so Lee also would have had plenty of chances to see that. "We did at at, Lee." The older teen gave a smile to the boy as she took a few steps away from the pole. "We certainly taught that pole a lesson."

The teenager would be fine with the kunai if they had some way of healing quickly and that if she could access her own weapons. However, as they lacked both of those conditions, Trini did not bring it up. Instead, the young woman moved into a defensive posture. "Other than that, rules are to whoever yields first then?" It seemed more realistic than number of strikes or takedowns to her. "If that is acceptable to you, we may begin when you are ready."

Lee laughed when Miss Trini said they had taught the pole a lesson. "We certainly did," he answered, shaking his head with a grin, before he struck a defensive pose, as well. His left hand went behind the small of his back, and he held his right arm vertical. His expression also became serious again almost immediately.

If they were to fight until he yielded, they would be fighting for a very long time. Even against Gaara-san, Lee had never yielded. According to Gai-sensei, his body had still not given up even after he had been unconscious. He did not know how to quit, as Gai-sensei had said. Mess up? Yes. That he knew how to do. Quitting, however, was another story.

"How about we go until someone lands five hits?" he proposed instead.

"Seems fair to me." Trini started circling slowly, moving in a defensive rotation around the boy. She had no intention of making the first move in this fight. She still had a few advantages in a hand to hand spar against Lee, and the teenager intended to use them.

"Ready when you are." She also had no intention of giving up easily, though this would be an interesting test for her. While she might have been questioning herself internally before the fight, she was not doing so now that the spar had begun. There was not any room in her head for doubt during the spar itself. Otherwise, she would already have been defeated, and she had no intention of making it that easy for Lee.

Lee gave a slow nod when Miss Trini said that she was ready. So, no facial shots, which also let out his signature under-the-chin kick, as well. But since that was normally just a prelude to a Lotus attack, it was no big loss. He certainly would not want to use a Lotus on Miss Trini, especially since he did not have his bandages to help him grip her.

He turned to track her as she circled, because she did not seem to want to make the first move. That meant starting off would be up to him. He rushed her at a run, and then dropped at the last second, almost parallel with the ground, pivoting on his left hand and foot as the momentum swung his right leg forward in a kick aimed at her shins. "Leaf Whirlwind!" he cried, already pivoting away again, in case his kick missed or she jumped, so that his back would not be exposed for too long.

An interesting technique. That was what Trini thought as she jumped backwards, knees coming up to her chest while she held her arms vertical in a defensive block to cover the rest of her torso and face, just in the event of an immediate follow up strike. When there was none, Trini darted forward and attempted to direct a punch directly at the boy's abdomen in an attempt to knock the boy over while he was recovering from the attack he made on her.

Her attack was a fairly straight forward move, and she immediately stepped backwards into a defensive position. The punch was likely not the most difficult thing in the world to dodge, but she had her reasons for starting out basic with her attacks.

If Lee had not been used to Neji's attacking the chakra points in his abdomen with the Gentle Fist, Miss Trini might have connected. But he used his legs to spring into a back flip, and then, when he was upright, he slid to a stop a few feet away. "That was a good move," he complimented with a nod, moving back into his defensive stance.

She was quick -- faster than Sasuke-kun, to be sure. Then again, Sasuke-kun had relied too heavily on his Sharingan and being able to read his opponent's jutsu. He was not used to using just straight martial arts, but Miss Trini evidently was.

Most of his attacks back home concentrated on facial attacks, so he would have to adapt. He would simply not jump so high. That should do it. He rushed her again -- this time with a cry of "Leaf Hurricane!" -- and jumped, pivoting in the air and aiming a kick at the side of her chest. And then, as he came down, he pivoted on his left foot again, to set himself up for another Leaf Whirlwind.

A nod was all Lee got to the compliment. Trini was focused on the fight right now, and was not quite as talkative as usual. Not at that particular moment.

The pivot in the air nearly threw Trini off, and it was only the fact that she had to fight way too many Putties at once back home that she was able to pick up on where the strike was aimed. Sadly for Trini, the strike got her as she attempted to drop to the ground in a dodge. However, she still dropped as she intended, going completely horizontal in the process. That was one point to Lee. She managed to hide her grimace at the hit, aided in large part because she did not have her face to him as she dodged.

As she landed, Trini pulled her legs in tightly towards her chest and angled her hands so that she landed securely on her hands with her feet pointing towards Lee when he came down from his strike. She then blasted her legs straight back in a kick very similar to a donkey kick, aimed at Lee's chest, hoping to catch him as he came down from that aerial strike. Two could play at fighting low to the ground. If it missed him, she did hope it would at least prevent him from rushing her again in the next couple of seconds.

At first Lee thought that he had kicked too hard and knocked Miss Trini over, but no. She would not have fallen straight down that way, if he had. She had dropped intentionally, and soon he saw why. Miss Trini had balled herself up, almost like a frog about to spring into a leap. So his follow up of a Leaf Whirlwind had his leg swiping through empty air again.

This frog, however, decided to leap backward, both legs aimed squarely at his chest. Lee tried to spring into another back flip in order to avoid the blow, but he was not quite quick enough. Miss Trini's kick caught him on the thigh, sending him a few feet to one side of his intended mark at the end of his flip.

"Another good move," he complimented, after he had slid to a stop once more. Then he straightened, striking his defensive pose once more.

Trini flipped forward, pushing up and forward with her hands to flip to her feet. She turned to face the boy with a smile. "Thank you." It was the most she had said during the spar, and the woman struck a defensive pose with her arms angled at forty-five degree angles and at different heights.

The teenager started circling Lee again, bringing the circle in closer with each step. Her longer arms and legs would be useful here. Once she got within range, the teen lifted her left leg up and to the side before bringing it down hard towards Lee's right shoulder in an attempt at an axe kick. The kick was meant to drive the boy to dodge to the side, where Trini was already reaching out with her right arm to try and grab Lee's arm.

If she managed to grab Lee's arm, she was going to try and use his moment of moving to the side to use Lee's arm like a steering wheel to turn it suddenly and cause him to flip onto his back, a move that would only work if everything went right. If the grapple was avoided, then Trini would still be fairly close to the boy, which was where her fighting style prefered her to be positioned.

Since they had not said ahead of time, Lee was not sure if blocking the kick would count as Miss Trini's landing a blow. But he was also not that concerned because he was having a good time. He crouched at the same time, so that most of the force of the axe kick would already be expended. Then brought up his right arm to shield himself, hoping to catch hold of her leg.

Once he had reached the bottom of the crouch, Lee pivoted on his right foot, swinging his left leg around again, in another Leaf Whirlwind. This time he was aiming for her ankle, and it had a better chance of working, too, since Miss Trini was already balanced on one foot.

A block was a block. That did not count as landing a strike, in Trini's mind. However, Trini was not thinking about if a block counted at that particular moment, because Trini had tried a high risk, high reward move that did not pay off.

The Leaf Whirlwind struck her ankle due to her being off-balance just a little and the girl found herself on her back. It was now two to one in favor of the younger boy. The natural move most people would make in that situation would be to roll backwards, flip backwards, or something of that nature to get out of close range. Trini, however, had other plans.

She braced her hands alongside her head as though she was going to flip backwards, but instead propelled herself forward to attempt to get right back into close range with Lee. She led immediately with a hard right elbow directly towards Lee's stomach. At the end of the elbow maneuver, she immediately slammed her right forearm and fist towards Lee's chest in a one-two combo she often used when dealing with Putties back home.

Lee sprang to his feet again, just as Miss Trini landed on the ground. Except for Neji, most people he had fought would have moved back to get a little distance. But he did not expect Miss Trini to, because they would have done so to use ninjutsu on him, and like him, she was a taijutsu specialist.

Still, he was not entirely prepared when she propelled herself forward into the fray again so soon. He could not dodge the blow to his stomach in time, but Lee twisted and sank into a back bend in time to avoid the second blow, bracing himself on his hands. Then he brought his right leg up in a kick aimed at the side of Miss Trini's chest.

Normally he would have gone for her chin again, the way he had with Sasuke-kun, but they had agreed to no facial shots. But unlike with Sasuke-kun, he did not expect her to be slow enough that he could aim a solid kick and launch her into the air. Rather than leave himself vulnerable, then, he pushed off with his left leg into another back flip, landing a few feet away.

The kick towards her side received a block from her arm. She used the momentum from the block to twist around and get a couple feet of distance at the same time Lee took a little distance. "Fairly even so far." Trini then took a few steps forward, trying to close the distance on the boy. The girl's hair was dripping a little more with sweat now from the combined factors of their workouts and now the spar. She was still holding up fairly well, but her training with Lee had forced her to build up a little more endurance over the last few days. Still, in a long spar, she knew that he would have the advantage in endurance.

Once the girl was in range, she threw a quick punch directed at Lee's left shoulder, but at the last moment she pulled the punch back and dropped into a sweeping leg kick, crouching down and trying to drop the boy to the ground with that kick. Trini hoped that the fact that her legs had more reach than her arms that the feint would only cause Lee to dodge back a little and that he would still be in range of the real attack.

"Yes," Lee agreed with a nod, when Miss Trini said they were even. "It is a challenge indeed!" he added with a grin, putting up his defensive pose once more as she approached. If she had been as slow as Sasuke-kun, Lee might have tried to dodge the punch. But Miss Trini was not that slow, and so instead, Lee both crouched slightly and brought his forearm up to knock her punch off target.

But the punch was only a trick, and she soon dropped into her own version of the Leaf Whirlwind. His first instinct would have been to spring up to avoid the kick, and then immediately pivot into a Leaf Hurricane, but if he did that, his kick would have been aimed right at Miss Trini's head, and that was not allowed. The split second's hesitation cost him, and when Lee finally did spring up, tucking his legs to his chest, he was too slow. The kick glanced his ankle, even if he did land on his feet.

Trini decided to press the attack further, and her movements sped up considerably from that previous punch. She immediately repeated the sweeping leg kick again with her right leg in an attempt at keeping Lee off-balance. She did not think it likely to hit, but she would rather keep the boy moving and avoiding attacks if at all possible.

Trini then followed that move up with not another kick but rather a powerful right uppercut aimed to strike the boy in the upper stomach or chest, the punch coming even as she rose from the sweeping kick attempt herself. This kept her arm close to her body and allowed her to angle it to her left to hopefully strike more surface area of Lee's body and also avoid striking his head in the process of the movement. She hoped that he was not expecting an uppercut of any type, since those were usually only used for headshots, though they could be effective against other parts of the body.

Lee had not expecting an uppercut, but this time when he jumped to avoid the second sweeping kick, he did pivot into a Leaf Hurricane. He aimed his kick lower, however, for what he would have thought would be Miss Trini's shoulder, but since she rose at that precise instant, it was aimed instead at her hip or thigh.

And since he had pivoted just then, the strike that had been aimed for his torso instead struck ... his butt. Miss Trini had just punched his butt. If they had not been in the middle of a fight, he might have died of embarrassment on the spot. Why had he not said the first three hits instead of five? Why oh why oh why?

Trini had been trying to block that incoming strike, but as she was occupied with her own strike, Lee did get her with the kick. That would perhaps be some small comfort.

However, the best way to deal with an embarrassing situation was to turn it into a low stress situation. The teenager pivoted on her foot and attempted a roundhouse kick at Lee's back. The end of the spar was not far away now. At most there would be two more strikes that landed.

"Well, now you know I'll always cover your rear when you forget to cover it yourself, Lee!" Trini commented with a smile. Though there was a hint in her tone that she was serious about the sentiment of watching his back, if Lee was perceptive enough to hear it.

Lee was too busy being embarrassed to even think about blocking the kick to his back, but it was just as well. That was the fifth blow landed, and now he could find a hole to crawl into and die a peaceful death. Still, when Miss Trini said that she would cover his rear, he nearly exploded in laughter, in spite of how red his face was.

"Thank you, Miss Trini," he answered, and he started to say that he would do the same, but he stopped himself, turning even more red. "I will -- watch your back, too," he finally substituted, because that sounded far safer.

Trini smiled. "Do not worry about it. Unexpected things happen in spars. I think every martial artist had a story about being hit in a sensitive spot in one form or another." It was almost inevitable, really. So Trini wasn't going to lose any sleep over it.

"You fight well, Lee. I believe I had a little bit of luck on my side today. Do you want to rest a little before we continue with our training today?" Trini thought that Lee might want a little time to recover from the last couple of strikes.

Lee nodded. He had not had such a story, until today, but Miss Trini was not mocking him for it, so he would ... get over it. In time. He hoped.

"So do you, Miss Trini," he answered, grinning, and then he nodded when she suggested a break. "Maybe a snack would be a good idea, too," he added with a slight shrug. And some water. Definitely some water.

"Alright then. Let's go to the kitchen and grab something to eat." Trini could use the break herself. She didn't have the endurance Lee had, given the differences in their worlds and their training styles. She did not comment further on what happened, though. It was simply not a huge issue to her. "Maybe if we're lucky we can find some sort of protective headgear somewhere for the next time we spar." Though she had no idea if that would be stocked anywhere.
