RP: Happy Saturday
Characters: Tris, Remus
Time/Date: Afternoon, October 9
Location: rooftop pool
Warnings/Rating: Half-naked werewolf?
Summary: Tris decides to try that swimming thing
Status: Complete

Tris had been unable to find anyone that morning. Granted, he hadn't looked very hard, but he'd hit most of the public areas and he hadn't found LilyLu, Hugo, or Remus. He figured that the odds were good that LilyLu was fucking, Remus was reading somewhere, but ... Hugo should have been out in the public areas. Unless he was sleeping or something.

Either way, Tristan had retreated to his own room and fished out the recently procured pair of swim trunks. He hadn't done more than splash around in the lake at school, but he was a little curious how he'd fare at the whole 'swimming' thing. It was worth a shot, right? What was the worst that could happen, aside from drowning?

He had enough faith in his flailing limbs to trust he wouldn't drown before he could get his feet on solid ground, so ... what the hell, right?

Carting a towel up to the rooftop area, Tristan dropped it onto a lounge chair before he waded over to the edge of the pool. His wand was carefully wrapped in the towel, and while he wasn't keen on it being so far away, he wasn't going to take it in the water with him. Which made him wonder if that was why swimming was not a big sport among witches and wizards.

But then, they couldn't take their wands up while they were playing quidditch, either, so ... that argument was kind of shot down. Shrugging to himself, Tristan started to wade into the water slowly, laughing a little as it came up to his waist. He eyed the area in front of him, and in the spirit of being Tristan, jumped forward into the water. He plunged his face under and wheeled his arms until he figured out the basics of staying afloat, and then he began to wolf-paddle around the pool.

This wasn't so hard.

Surprisingly enough, Tristan's guess about Remus' whereabouts would have been correct; he had been reading in his room, but he decided he wanted to be outside for a bit. He hadn't spent much time on the roof and decided he would give it a try. There were chairs up there, at least.

He paused when he saw someone in the pool. Cocking his head to the side, he ran his free hand down his mouth to keep from grinning too widely. Remus wasn't an expert swimmer by any stretch of the imagination and it wasn't something he did a lot in his free time, but he had always assumed that no one actually doggy paddled except for children and ... dogs.

Opening his mouth, he almost commented on it, but he didn't want to make Tristan feel bad for his swimming choices. Instead, he settled on a simple, "Hello there," as he moved towards a chair close to the pool.

"Thought I smelled wet dog," he offered as he rolled onto his back. After a bit of flailing, he managed to find some stability in the water. "Then I realized it was me." He grinned. "Guess you smelled it too, huh?"

Working himself around in the water, he managed to half-paddle, half-stroke his way to the edge closest to where Remus was. Crossing his arms over each other, he leaned his bare chest against them as he trod water and gazed at the other wolf.

"Or were you just stalking the fake sunshine?" he teased as he watched Remus. "Because I know you didn't come to the pool to read. Pools are for swimming, not for reading," he solemnly reported.

Remus wasn't sure whether he should be concerned or amused when Tristan flailed; he settled on a mix of both. "Yes, I was concerned Dug might have fallen into the pool and was in need of assistance," he quipped, "but now I'm concerned that you might need some help instead."

He settled onto the chair, grinning over at the other wolf with a light shake of his head. "I don't have swimming trunks."

Which wasn't exactly an excuse, just a statement of fact. He wasn't completely opposed to swimming in his pants. Swim trunks weren't that far off from boxers, after all.

"But no, I did not come to the pool to read. I came to the chairs near the pool to read," he corrected, raising his brows with a smile.

"So swim naked," Tris offered with a grin. "I promise not to openly leer at you," he added as he studied Remus. "Besides, if I start drowning, you'll have to take the time to strip before you jump in so you don't get your clothes wet, and by then ..." Tris heaved a dramatic sigh. "I'll be dead."

He grinned and kicked the water a little. "Reading can't possibly be as interesting as adventures in a pool with a fellow wolf. Especially if you're a better swimmer than me. And even without seeing you in the water, I bet you are."

Tristan laughed softly as he gripped the edge of the pool and stretched as far back as he could without letting go, extending his legs out behind him to go horizontal in the water.

"I could jump in with my clothes on. I'm ninety nine percent sure that water doesn't ruin clothing," he pointed out rationally, but even so, he stood up and began to undress. While he was self conscious about the scars he had along his chest and legs, he didn't think Tristan would judge him because of them even if the other wolf had never had to change without the wolfsbane potion.

Once he was stripped down to his pants, his clothes piled neatly on the chair next to the book he wasn't going to read, he made his way to the pool and sat down on the edge of it. His legs dangled in the water before he eased off the edge and into the pool.

He took a breath and submerged, just to get his hair wet, before surfacing and regarded the other wizard with a grin. "I hope you weren't down here trying to teach yourself how to swim?"

"Well,it's not the water, you see. It's all the chemicals in the water. I hear it'd bleach your clothes, and ... really, I understand priorities. The charming blond werewolf isn't worth chlorine spots on the clothes."

Tris did study Remus' scars when the other boy stripped. He'd seen Juliet's bite scar, but that had just been the one on her leg. Remus looked like he'd taken on an entire pack and had to have been dragged off the scene.

"Nah," he said as he lifted his eyes to meet Remus'. "There really wasn't much teaching involved. Didn't even crack a book. Figured I'd fight it out with the water and see who won." He grinned. "So far, it's me, but the water's got some strategy, I'm sure."

He did a decent job of pretending that he hadn't noticed Tristan looking at his scars. Well, okay, it was just assumption that that's what Tris was looking at, but it seemed like a safe one. He did turn a light shade of red, though.

"It's usually not wise to challenge nature," he pointed out with a grin, "though I'm not sure a swimming pool counts, even if it is full of water.

"I'm no expert, but I reckon you should work on... extending your arms when you swim? Doggy paddling is only acceptable when you're furry," he teased as he pushed himself backwards a little to float on his back, keeping his head elevated so he'd be able to hear the other wolf speak.

"Hm. I'm not truthfully sure there is much by way of nature around here," he admitted. "We're stuck inside a giant cage, and everything's been tampered with, one way or another," Tris continued thoughtfully. "Argument stands though. Best not to challenge the giant cage."

Tris grinned as Remus attempted to coach him. "What if I said I was pretending I was furry?" he quipped lightly. "Then does it count? Besides, I wasn't doggy paddling. I was Tris-paddling. There's a subtle but distinct difference, you see, and it's perfectly acceptable for me to swim this way."

He chuckled softly before he stroked around a little. It wasn't complicated, exactly, but it was interesting. He doubted he'd be winning any awards for form or style, but he at least was keeping himself above water. "What about you? Swim much at all? Get tossed into the lake a couple of times and have to work your way out?"

"Ah, my apologies," Remus began as he found the edge of the pool and pressed his back against it, hooking his elbows over the sides to sort of brace himself up, "Tris-paddling wasn't a known technique in my time."

If he'd really never done much swimming before, Remus thought Tristan was doing pretty good. It wasn't exactly a chore to watch him swim around, either.

"Perhaps surprisingly, I was never tossed into the lake," he mused as he let his legs float towards the surface. "I did however have a couple lessons when I was little. I really don't swim very often, though. I'm hardly qualified to instruct you, but I do think I might be able to save you if you start to drown."

"'course it wasn't. I only invented it a few years ago," he pointed out.

"Is it so surprising I landed in the lake more than once while I was at school? Quidditch initiation rites must have chagned between your time and mine," he quipped playfully. "Or you were never on the team? That might be why you missed the grand lake tossing."

He looked thoughtful as he paddled around. "Maybe it was on the eagles that did that. You were a lion, yeah? Bet theirs was completely different," he decided with a firm nod.

"For some reason, I'm not the least bit surprised you found yourself in the lake a few times," Remus answered with a smile. "But no, I was never on the team. I liked to play, but there was a certain level of intensity and competitiveness required to be on the Gryffindor Quidditch team that I'm quite sure I lacked."

He liked friendly pick up games, but never felt compelled to go for more than that. Plus, it gave him some free time from his mates while they were at practice and he was sure they didn't mind the break from him either.

"You know, I don't think I would have pegged you as a Ravenclaw," he added thoughtfully and then grinned, "but I'm sure plenty of folks wouldn't have put me in Gryffindor either."

"Yeah, no one ever pegged McKimmon for a 'puff, either," Tris said with a grin. "She was loud. Swore a lot. Was always right. Argued with the quidditch captain. But she was a 'puff. Should've been a lion." He shrugged. "Maybe the hat was getting senile in our time, or the magic was wearing off or something."

He wasn't sure something like that could happen, but ... why not? Spells wore down eventually, right?

"So what'd you do? Study? Learn? Make good grades?" He shook his head before he ducked under the water. He swam a bit under water before resurfacing. He pushed his hair back and swam a little closer to Remus.

"Well, I don't know. I reckon someone could be hardworking and loyal, but swear a lot and be loud," he grinned softly, shrugging bare shoulders as he slowly kicked his feet to keep his legs from floating to the surface.

Waiting for the other wizard to resurface before answering, he pushed his hand against the water to send an unimpressive splash towards Trisan. "A bit of all of that, yes," he answered dryly. "I was a prefect too and the voice of reason that nine times out of ten fell on deaf ears," he shook his head as his expression shifted to one of fond remembrance.

He missed just about everything about being in Hogwarts with his mates; even getting in trouble, bad ideas. He could have done without James and Sirius' bullying and he did regret his lack of action there, but it had easily been the best time of his life otherwise.

"Ah, they wouldn't make me a prefect. I petitioned for it and everything. Got an amazing number of signatures, too, but ... Headmaster Flitwick said no dice."

Tris paused. "Well, he squeaked it. You know how it goes. Something about spending too much time in detention or something along those lines. So he gave it to the other McKimmon. The one in our house who was smart and polite and kind of a bitch but not loud about it." He grinned.

All this talk though was making him miss home fiercely. Especially Landon. Sure, Hugo and LilyLu were here, and that was nice, but ... he missed his mate. He'd honestly settle for Brenna or Autumn at this point. Ace or Mitch or Lana or Relic. Even Juliet, honestly. Someone he had closer ties to.

Lapsing into silence, his expression fell a little as he stroked his hands through the water. "Anyone at home you wish would show up here?" he inquired as he glanced over to Remus.

Remus inhaled, hesitating slightly before he shook his head. Anyone he could possibly wish to be here already was. Perhaps having James and Sirius be a couple years older would have been nice, but there was a fine line between some added maturity and when they began to drift and distrust each other.

He was glad that his old friends were here -- especially Lily -- although he felt a little bit removed from all of them. It might have been self imposed, but there it was. James and Sirius were young and had each other. Lily had Balthazar and he was happy for her, truthfully, and having them all here and alive was better than at home where they had been dead or in prison.

"Who are you missing?" Remus asked softly, brows raising. He hadn't missed the change in the other boy's expression and assumed the question had more to do with who Tristan wished was here than curiosity about Remus' desires. Anyway, he couldn't think of a way to say everything the question made him feel without sounding ... self pitying.

"Tons of people. I'd settle for any of my classmates, or LilyLu's biggest brother, but ... I'd really like my best mate to be here. Landon. Farnsworth." His lips twitched slightly. "Anyone from Wheezes. Any of the other wolves. I wouldn't even mind Lana or Juliet showing up. Hell, I'd take Ace at this point. Just ... someone who knows me outside of school.

"I mean, it's great, having LilyLu and Hugo here, but ... we weren't close outside of school. And sometimes I just ... need that. Need someone who knows me."

He shrugged and grinned. He hadn't really meant to get so very ... chatty on the topic of his friends back home, but there it was.

"Also, I wouldn't mind some brooms and quidditch gear. So while we're dreaming impossible dreams ..." he laughed softly before he stroked through the water to the edge of the pool. Pulling himself out, he perched on the edge of the pool, legs dangling into the water.

"I suppose you might have to let someone get to know you here," he offered with a small smile as he turned towards the edge, crossing his arms over it as he regarded the other male, "but I understand what you mean. Even with James and Sirius here, they don't know what it was like after we finished school."

He hesitated, but Tristan had been rather open with his own wishes and he shrugged lightly at himself. "It'd just be nice to set some things right."

Allowing a quiet chuckle to part his lips, he nodded, "Yes, while we're dreaming impossible dreams, I wouldn't mind a broom ... or being sent home."

There were strangely some aspects of being here that were better than home, but home was ... reality and he was free.

Tristan laughed softly. "Well, I am letting people get to know me here, but ... this isn't going to be the rest of our lives, yeah?" He shrugged a little as he let his eyes wander again over Remus' body. "They'll either send us home or kill us, and ..." Tristan shrugged. "Then nothing we did here, no one we got to know here, will matter."

He was half-inclined to pry about what Remus wanted to set right, then figured it really wasn't any of his business. Maybe if he got to know the other wolf better, he'd be more willing to pull and pry, but not right now.

Laying himself back on the concrete with his legs still in the water, he sighed. "Home'd be nice," he agreed. "But with some people being here four months and counting, I somehow don't really think home's in the cards."

Remus grinned and briefly debated whether he wanted to point out that Tristan had just contradicted himself. This wasn't going to be the rest of their lives, but he didn't think they were being sent home? He settled on letting that one pass, but still shook his head.

"It matters right now. Sometimes that's enough," he shrugged as he hoisted himself out of the water, shifting to lay on his back near the other wizard. He crossed his arms behind his head after briefly glancing around to ensure it was still just the two of them.

He had lost all of his close friends back home, but the relationships he'd had with them still mattered. He knew it was a different situation, but he didn't think any relationship was ever a waste, even if it ended badly or was forgotten.

The downside of swimming in his pants was suddenly realized as it occurred to him how ... clingy his boxers felt, especially laying flat on his back like this. He propped himself up by his elbows, flushing a little, as he looked around for a towel rack or something.

"Yeah. Living in the moment and all that," Tris agreed with a slight shrug before he glanced over to Remus when the other wolf sat up.

He kind of caught on when he noticed Remus' swimwear, such as it was. With a quiet chuckle, Tristan pointed toward the towels on the shelf behind the lounge chairs.

"Think you should look into getting some proper trunks, yeah?" he teased lightly. "Not that I mind the view," he added. Though really, he could stick to just admiring, especially since he really wasn't sure if he and Hugo were anything. It'd be kind of rude of him to make a pass at Remus, right?

Not that he was genuinely considering it, but ... abstractly so.

Remus chuckled quietly, arching his brows somewhat suggestively; he appreciated the view of Tristan as well. Of course, at the same time, he turned a darker shade of red and mostly assumed that the other wizard was teasing. He wasn't accustomed to openly flirting with men -- or anyone, for that matter -- but the rules hardly seemed to apply here.

"I reckon they have trunks in the mall?" He asked as he stood up, moving to the rack and snagging a towel. He ran the towel over his chest and back before attempting to dry off his hair, doing a good job of mussing it up, and then wrapping the fabric around his waste.

"Or were you wearing yours when they snagged you?" He teased with a light grin.

"Was wearing mine," he admitted. "One day back in third year, I thought to myself, 'you know, if I ever get kidnapped and tossed onto some barren island, I should make sure I've got a set of all my clothes on'. So I took to wearing my trunks as underpants, and a set of Muggle clothes under my robes, and ever since, I thought I was ready for kidnapping."

He sighed dramatically. "Oh, how wrong I was."

Tris nodded with a grin. "They've got some in the store. They might only have these tiny Speedo things in your size though. We haven't really worked out the mechanics of why certain sizes are only available in certain styles. But it isn't impossible. Apparently, Jaime and Lily were only ever able to find tiny bikinis in their sizes."

His grin broadened slightly. "I somehow don't think anyone was complaining."

"Well, you were a step ahead of me at least. I didn't even have swim trunks," he shook his head solemnly as he made sure the towel was secure around his waste before starting over to the chair he had left his clothes and book.

He laughed quietly, but looked mildly horrified at the idea of wearing a speedo. "I reckon I'd wear a size too big or so before a Speedo. Think if they've got trunks in your size, I should be safe though."

He might've been an inch or so taller than the other wolf, but otherwise, their builds seemed similar enough.

"I'm going to head in and put on some pants that aren't soaked," he decided with a light grin.

"They did when I looked. They might've swiped them all just to force you into a speedo though," Tris teased lightly.

When Remus said he was heading in, Tris lifted his hand in a wave. "Thank you for making sure I didn't drown," he called toward the other wolf with a soft laugh. Kicking his feet lightly in the water, he figured he'd head in shortly as well.

He didn't want to accidentally drown himself after all.

"I wouldn't be surprised," he admitted with a chuckle as he put his shirt back on and then gathered up the rest of his things. He felt mildly ridiculous walking back inside in a towel and a t-shirt, but there it was.

"Anytime," he grinned softly, "don't make my efforts a waste by drowning now, though."

He lifted his free hand in a wave before turning to head back inside.
