RP: Arrival
Characters: Roland, poking Corey
Time/Date: September 6, morning
Location: His room, the hallway
Warnings/Rating: Language. Will update if needed.
Summary: Roland arrives and is not happy to be here.
Status: Complete

Roland woke up, feeling groggy and ... wrong. The bed they had gone to sleep in last night wasn't exactly familiar, but this one felt emptier than it should have and he pushed down the flood of panic as he confirmed that Corey wasn't in bed next to him and this most definitely wasn't their room.

He called her name as he rolled out of bed, eyes flicking about the room urgently. After finding the note and reading it, he crumpled it up, a wordless noise of frustration escaping him. What the fuck? Torn between conflicting feelings of hoping his sister was here with him and hoping she hadn't been kidnapped, he threw the balled up note uselessly against the wall. If she was here, at least he could take care of her while they figured out how the hell to get out of here, but who knew what was going to happen to them. If she was... not here, he didn't think she was in any state of mind to really take care of herself and they didn't have anyone else.

Okay, he needed to calm down. Roland took a breath and decided to see what there was to see out in the hallway and beyond. When he closed the door behind himself, he noticed his name and bit the inside of his cheek briefly. Blue eyes strayed around the hallway and he blew out a half sigh, half relieved laugh when he saw Corey's name right across the way. Crossing the hall, he knocked on her door and called out, "Corey? Are you in there?"

Corey was lying on her back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. She wanted to go back to sleep, but sleep brought the nightmares. The memories. She wondered if she woke up her neighbors screaming, and she couldn't be bothered to care. She wanted to care. She would have tried to care. But she was dealing with her own issues.

When she heard the knock, she wondered if it was that guy who'd ... helped get the guy she'd stabbed upstairs. But then ... it sounded like Roland. Because she wanted it to sound like Roland, or because it was?

Corey eased out of bed, slipping on the robe before she moved hesitantly to the door. She rested her hand on the handle and hesitated. "Roland?" she called through the door. "Roly, is that you?"

"Yeah, Core, it's me," he called back through the door, letting one shoulder rest lightly against the door frame as he leaned closer to it. Some of the tension he was feeling melted away, but his back was still tight and in the back of his mind, he knew that just because they were together, didn't mean everything was okay.

He had a million questions about this place, and who brought them here, but none of it mattered quite as much as Corey opening the door and being unharmed at the moment.

Still she hesitated before she slowly drew the door open. She stepped back, silently inviting him inside, green eyes sweeping over him before she reached out and touched his chest. "Did you just get here?" He must have, because he would have found her before, if he'd been here.

Trembling, Corey leaned into him, wrapping her arms around him as she buried her face against his chest, inhaling the scent of him and shaking. "I've been here ... a week. A week without you ..."

Maybe it was more. Maybe it wasn't that long. She didn't know. It didn't matter. He was here, now, and that mattered.

"I'm here now," he murmured once he was inside and had her in his arms. He kicked her door shut before giving her a gentle squeeze, his hands working slowly up and down her back. "Just got here. Just woke up, actually. I'm right across the hall."

Not that he expected he would stay right across the hall, unless she moved into his room as well. He was fine moving into hers, though. Suddenly he wondered if whoever was in charge would have an issue with that, but he was willing to fight for it.

"A week," he repeated slowly as her words sunk in. "Corey, how is that possible? I.. last night, I saw you."

Corey shook her head. "I don't know. I don't know, but I've read ... other people ... had the same sort of thing. People they saw just the night before have been here for months. Months, Roly," she said, her cheek pressed to his chest just above his heart, listening to the comforting beat. One she'd fallen asleep to so many times over to years.

"I don't want to be here for months. There are. There are witches here. I saw. They just talk about their magic like it's not a big deal and ... I accidentally stabbed someone my first day here.

"He called me Becky," she whispered. "And I panicked, because I didn't know him and I thought he might be one of their Shadows or something and I ... I want ..."

She couldn't even say she wanted to go home, because where was home, for them? They were home to each other, and he was here now ... and that was all she needed.

Months. He didn't want to be here for months, either, even though he really had no idea where or what here was. He just wanted a shot at living a quiet, somewhat normal life, but apparently that wasn't in the cards. He furrowed his brow when she got to the stabbing part of her story.

"Shh, we'll figure it out," he murmured before pressing a kiss to her hair. "Is... no one's hurt you, right? What... goes on here? I mean, what do they want with us?"

The note had said something about being observed, but to what end? He supposed he'd have to uncrumple it and read it with a clearer head later, but it hadn't really been very informative, in his opinion. He managed not to rattle off the rest of the questions he had; she probably didn't have very many answers anyway.

"No." She buried her face briefly against his chest as she clung to him. "No, no one's hurt me. The ... doctor tried to talk to me a couple of times, but I didn't ... I didn't want to tell him. Not about ... about that. About ... Daddy and everything else."

She drew her head back slightly. "I don't know. Everyone said we're ... there was a note. They made a mistake or something, bringing some people here, and ... so no one has any magic or weapons or anything while they sort it out. No one believes anyone's being sent home though," she continued as she wiped at her eyes. "Not really. They say if someone goes missing the odds are better that they ... that they're being experimented on or killed."

Exhaling softly, she drew back enough to put her hands between them, rubbing his chest slightly. "I ... we mostly just kind of exist. People say there've been experiments and attacks and ... things like that."

His loosened his grip on her a little as she drew back, gazing down at her. This was outside the realm of any situation he'd ever imagined and he was having difficulty wrapping his mind around it or figuring out a plan of action.

He slid a hand up to cup the back of her neck as he kissed her forehead, repressing a sigh. Well, they could exist for the time being.

"So am I moving in here or are you coming to my room?" He asked, managing a little smile for her, and only then did he wonder if he even had anything to move. He hadn't bothered to search his room, but it wasn't like he really had that many precious belongings in the first place.

"I don't think it matters, which room. Whichever. You should stay here." If only because she'd sort of established it with her presence as her room. She wondered a little if their kidnappers were going to 'let' them live together, or if they'd come in and separate them or something ... but Corey didn't care. Let them come and try.

"Did ... do you ... have you got anything? Blades or guns or ... they even took my cross," she admitted, lifting a hand to touch where the necklace should have been.

"Why ... why would they do this, take us? Haven't we ... haven't we been through enough?"

"Maybe that's why they took us," he muttered, shrugging his shoulders lightly. If they wanted to 'observe' people ... maybe they wanted to observe people who had just been through a pretty traumatic event. Shaking his head, he let his arms drop from around her and nodded towards the door.

"I don't have anything on me," he admitted, "and I didn't even look around my room, to be honest."

Which.. he probably should have, but discovering if Corey was somewhere in the building had been much higher on his list of things to do. "Want to go check it out with me?"

Corey was willing to bet Roland didn't have anything ... and she wondered if they'd give him things when they gave everyone else's things back to them.

Nodding her agreement, she managed to untangle herself from around him, though she ran her hand down his arm to lace her fingers firmly with his. Maybe they were just going across the hall, but he'd just gotten here and she didn't want to take any chances on him disappearing.

She couldn't think of anything else to say; everything running through her mind was a question he wouldn't have an answer to. So she lapsed into silence, clinging to his hand to follow him into his room.

Roland squeezed her hand when she took his, leading her out of her room and across the hall to his. Well, the room he had been assigned. He doubted he would spend enough time there for it to even begin to feel like his own. If he any belongings in the room, he just planned on moving them right over to Corey's.

He wished he had a plan beyond that, but he was certain they could make it through this; they'd made it through everything else so far.
