"Guess your theory was right, then," he said with slight shrug. "You'd think they wouldn't bother wasting their time."
But, of course, there weren't many correct assumptions to be made about the bastards who'd taken them. Every time an idea seemed solid and accurate, something else happened which changed everything. It was getting quite monotonous, though Spike had to admit (if only to himself) that he liked feeling 'at home' again. He was, after all, no stranger to gunning up and preparing for an enemy invasion. Just... it was usually another group of idiots with guns and not psychopathic cannibals.
"Sounds good to me."
He made sure that Parker was close behind before heading toward the mall. The walk itself was interesting with Parker tagging along, mostly because of her resemblance to another blond he knew: Julia. It had been much the same back then, too. Julia would be a few steps behind him, and he would be a few steps behind Vicious, and nobody would realize that there was more between them than just the platonic kind of partnership. Until he'd become an idiot and thought fairy tale endings could really happen...
Spike tensed a little at the thought, but didn't say anything to explain the reaction. In fact, he rather hoped Parker wouldn't notice.
