Rating: PG-13, Probably. Sexual themes.
"And then Steve says 'I did't know'." Tony stood in his en-suite bathroom, just in front of the sink, positioned in such a way that he could see Bruce neatly tucked into his bed, flipping through Marinetti's manifesto (one was of the few works of 'philosophy' to land in Stark's room and stay) but Tony knew that Banner was at least mostly listening to him. That was their way, really. Indirect communication spattered haphazardly with quips, superficial insults, more when the rare mood stirred something in Bruce to want it -- and now this. Tony standing in tight boxers, gesturing with a toothbrush, spitting into a sink, and explaining to Bruce the circumstances that led to the break-up of the Avengers and his finding out that Bucky Barnes killed his parents. "And I said, 'don't bullshit me'." Turn. Spit. Brush. There was still plenty to catch Banner up on that Tony wasn't ready to unravel. The dreams he had, and the memories that he'd gotten as of late were beyond unsettling. If there was truth to them, he couldn't fathom it. What seemed more likely -- more believable -- was the idea that the scientists had implanted all these dreams about Thanos, wizards, space and alien-robot girls into his head to make him ramble like a fool to the people he was already at odds with, but he wasn't going to do that. He knew Wanda was capable of visions and distorted memories. He also knew that the scientists in this facility seemed to be capable of everything -- so it stood to reason that they'd try something invasive like this little gimmick. And as far as he knew, other people at the facility were being given nightmares or visions of what they feared, too. But no one was talking. The 'memories' did, however, make Stark's palms itch. It reminded him that he'd been spinning his wheels in this facility for over a year and he'd still come no closer to finding a way out. They did something else to him too, something he liked even less. The idea of losing Peter, of failing everyone and not knowing what state he was going to find earth in when he returned to it -- even if it was all fake, it made him want to reach out and hold on to the people who mattered. Maybe reignite some old flames, or maybe just hold on to the whole damn world while he still had the chance. Tony put his toothbrush back in the holder and ran some water over his face before wandering back into the bedroom, tugging the elastic waist of his shorts up a bit higher before joining Bruce on the bed. "And so he said yes - yes, he knew that Barnes had killed my parents -- then I hit him." |
