Who: Hermione and Lavender
What: Coffee and supper
When: Monday evening
Where: The Three Broomsticks
Rating: Low, maybe some language
Status: In Progress

Honestly, Lavender had missed Hermione... once she'd realized the bushy-haired girl had been quiet for a while. She hadn't even noticed until Hermione's familiar handwriting had appeared in the journals that she had gone to muggle uni (something that Lavender couldn't really understand), or that she had backpacked to... where ever it was she had gone. Lavender's mind was on too many other things recently, and, maybe everyone else was right. She was a little too wrapped up in herself. Not that she was going to admit that out loud.

Lavender had agreed to meet Hermione for some coffee and supper, and after getting dressed in a pair of skinny jeans and a loose fitting t-shirt that smelled a little like Bill, she floo'd from her parents house to their meeting place. She'd been staying with her parents, despite the fact that they were so uncomfortable with her there. She'd done very little but argue with her mother these past few weeks, but she wasn't ready to admit defeat and find a new flat. Lavender had to wait and see if Bill got his memory back, so she could apologize profusely to him, try to change her annoying habits of starting fights and putting her nose into everyone else's business and try to move back into Shell Cottage. That was what she wanted. If he would take her back.

While waiting for Hermione to show, Lavender ordered herself a cup of coffee, holding off on ordering any food until her friend showed up. She was ignoring the looks from the people occupying the Three Broomsticks, rather used to the behavior now.

Hermione dashed in rather out of breath, dressed in a pretty red marled jumper over slacks and ankle boots. "I'm so sorry I'm late!" she told Lavender. "I got talking to folk on the journals and just utterly lost track of time, and then I had to dress in something decent because someone spilled coffee all over me at the Leaky, and -- it's good to see you!"

She opened her arms wide for a hug.

Lavender stood when her friend finally showed up, half of her coffee already gone, but she was just going to attest that to being a quick drinker. "It's alright," she replied with a big smile. "They are quite... interesting to talk to, aren't they?" And that was putting it mildly, since every time she got onto the journals, she messed something up with someone.

"It's good to see you too!" Lavender stepped into Hermione's arms, returning the hug for the friend she hadn't seen in so long.

Hermione's expression once the hug ended held both rue and amusement. "Actually, I find the sort of political discussion one gets in the Leaky rather deadly," she said, "but I did learn quite a bit. Perhaps now I won't seem quite such a zombie."

She shouldered off a messenger-bag -- Muggle make, clearly -- and set it beside her chair before she sat down. "You think a place stays the same just because you're not there to see it change," she said. "Silly, but there it is."

"Zombies would definitely be a change-up though. Something new." She nodded, a little smile playing at her lips. "Maybe get our minds off of werewolves for a little bit if there were uncontrollable walking dead swarming the Wizarding World." Wouldn't that have been nice.

Lavender rolled her eyes a little. Not at Hermione, but at the idea that things had stayed the same at all. There had been a complete flip in their world, that left the majority of them terrified. "If only, right?"

"If only. And if only all the changes didn't seem to be so horrible. Imprisoning werewolves, hunting purebloods, whatever's gone wrong with poor Bill -- is anything good going on around these parts?"

"Bill will be fine. He just had an accident at work and lost the past six months." Lavender was trying to use this time to her advantage. He couldn't remember her, therefore, he couldn't remember that they had been fighting and she'd moved out. She could correct the things he found upsetting about her during this time and she could prove she'd changed when his memory came back. "I'm sure there is something good going on somewhere."

Lavender raised a brow and looked at Hermione's hand for a moment. Was she serious? "That's nothing new though, is it?" She didn't want to play the pity game. That wasn't why they had come to dinner tonight, was it? Because the last thing Lavender wanted to do was find someone new to push away by complaining about every aspect of her life. She shrugged before giving up her hand to Hermione. "I'm more than used to things not going my way. But. How are you? How do you like being home?"

Hermione shrugged, squeezing Lavender's hand lightly before letting it lie loose in hers. "Not sure it's home yet. Not sure anywhere is. That's what I came back to sort out. For now, it's one day at a time, and maybe I find something that calls to me."

She broke off for a moment to order a pumpkin juice from Madam Rosmerta. "Right, so -- it's odd; there seems to be much more opportunity for Muggleborns than there's ever been, but so much of it seems to be opportunity to be utterly beastly. I did enough of that in school. I don't want to now."

Lavender pulled her hand away, once Hermione turned her attention to Madam Rosmerta. There was enough rumors going around at the moment, with the gossip section in the Daily Prophet these days, and Lavender really didn't want to be the next lesbian they picked on. For sure, everyone seemed to be these days, according to the paper, and she didn't want her and her friend's hand holding to make any special statements about them. Especially after her thing with Parvati in the alleyway, and the scenes she had made at Marcus' last party.

"You are going to have a right go of it these days, that's definitely true. Just don't.. get involved with W.A.P. in anyway. Not that I think you would." She shook her head, not even liking the idea of Hermione being against pureblood. That would not explain her feelings towards the Weasley's at all.

Hermione shuddered outright. "No," she declared, in the uncompromising tone of Severus Snape condemning a Longbottomish error in potion concoction. "I learned about all that from back issues of the Prophet. Horrible. Ginny, my God, what do I say to Ginny? I wasn't even here for her!"

Lavender almost laughed. As if Ginny would want anything remotely to do with Lavender, even if it was her giving Hermione advice about the other girl. As well as they used to get along, Ginny was never going to get over Lav fucking around with Harry and then marrying her brother. And... perhaps she shouldn't. It didn't matter.

Lavender just shrugged. "I don't really think there is anything you can say. If she brings it up to you? Then that's great, but if she doesn't? Don't push it." Although, Lav had never been tortured and raped, so what did she know on the matter?

"Well, yes, of course." Hermione's mind caught up to the probable similarity between Lavender's advice regarding Ginny and what Lavender actually wished for herself; she bit the inside of her cheek, feeling stupid. Considerably less loudly, she said, "I tried to work the Nightline at uni -- sort of a peer-counseling thing? Students would call in to talk things over with a friendly voice. I couldn't stay, though; I really tried, I really wanted to be able to do that, but I couldn't. Issues of my own bubbling up all over. You know how it is." Few better, Hermione thought sadly. "I'm just pants at being supportive. I'm sorry."

Lavender honestly didn't mind people talking or asking about her lycanthropy, or her attack. She brought it up often enough herself as it was. Besides, no one else really wanted to talk about it publicly, and with people like Pansy Parkinson around, someone had to say something. Though, she more then likely did it in the wrong ways.

Lavender really needed to learn how to channel all of her energy into something constructive.

"Was that kind of like the wireless?" She leaned in, elbows on the table, something she wasn't allowed to do while at home with her mother. "I've done my best to get over my issues with everything." Now she just had a whole new set of issues to take their place.

"I... think I've done my best? Short of checking myself into St. Mungo's. Which I think poor Headmistress McGonagall wished I'd done my last year. But, you know..." Hermione shrugged again, helplessly. "Issues do things in their own time? And have this way of not being as resolved as I thought they were? Today I think I'm more or less okay, but who knows, Marietta Edgecombe or somebody could pop out of the shadows and say 'boo!' and I'd just shrivel, like as not."

"Well, you could always put your mind towards other things. I mean, you have been through more then most of us. But maybe you could.. fuss over someone else for a little bit?" It had been a few years, new things were popping up all the time. And really, she didn't want to talk about this. She was more inclined to talk about the baby she'd lost then issues from the war.

"To be sure. Maths. Always safe to think about, as long as it's all theoretical." She smiled at Lavender. "But when I try to fuss over someone else I get it all wrong. Don't I."

It's all right to say 'yes,' her expression said.

Time was that Hermione would have been horribly hurt by the mere idea that her interventions, however kindly meant, weren't ideal.

Just then, though, she threw back her head and laughed delightedly aloud, the sort of laugh that the socially-susceptible find contagious. "I do indeed. Well, and so. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. If people were as straightforward as mathematical proofs, this would be a much easier world to get along in."

Lavender was generally a happy person, but these past few weeks had been brutal. It didn't help that Hermione hadn't seen her since... well, pretty much since the war, really. "Really? Not much." No, things kind of sucked, but she really didn't want to harp on them, not right now anyway.

A brow lifted and Lavender stared at Hermione for a moment. Since when did being in the prophet get to Lavender? Why did it all of a sudden? It made things so much less... fun in her life. But she was worried now. There it was. "Hmm." The corners of her lips lifted. "I'm up for anything, really." Anything to get her out of her parents house for a few more minutes.

"Well, all right. They do say 'tired of London, tired of life.' What kinds of music do you like? But, no, really --" Hermione's pace of speech increased, as her brain kicked into gear -- "it seems like it'd be nice for lots of people to do something fun, or have something fun happen to them. A holiday party or the like, dead obvious as that is. But it could even be something utterly random and silly, harmless mirages in Diagon or chocolate frogs popping into people's pockets for no reason, things like that."

Hermione stopped short and bit her lower lip. "Sorry. Not three days back and already I'm getting ahead of myself."

"I don't think I even got around to seeing the Hagia Sofia. There is so much other stuff to see there. There is a temple to Apollo, Medusa. An entire ruined city." And these were just the more muggle side of things that she had seen. Wizarding, there was so much more. And it was all just to gorgeous. Although, the resort she had stayed in really topped it all off. She wouldn't have left, she would have happily died in the day bed by the pool, like she remembered telling Roger when they first got there, if it hadn't been for the baby and the mixed up test results sending her back to London.

She wasn't so much a gossip, but she was the worst person to ever walk the planet. Any parent who could slap around their child for saying things they believe to be true, well? "Hostels?" Lavender's smile dropped a little. "Oh, no. If we're going to stay for a couple of days, we're staying in luxury." She might not have had a job in a couple of months, but that didn't leave her without anything. Lavender was very well off, having a good amount saved up from working with Witch Weekly and the trust fund she'd gotten when she turned of age. No. Lavender was beyond able to afford a nice hotel somewhere. "We'll see when we get there."

Hermione was living on what she'd saved from what her parents gave her for mad money in uni. As her parents had been generous and she wasn't spendthrift -- living hand-to-mouth for that last terrible few months in the war had quite broken her of any tendencies in that direction -- it would do her for a bit yet, but it wouldn't do for luxury hotels.

"I can't afford that," she said cheerfully, "but that's not a problem, unless..." Hermione frowned. "Unless you think there might be a danger from WAP. If there is, I daresay we'd be better off sticking together."

"Hard to know," Hermione said slowly. "That sort of violence... it often starts with some sort of superficially moral self-justification, but all too often it boils down to plain old ordinary brutality from people who feel their right to supremacy has been challenged. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they didn't stop at pureblood women. Anyone who's more-magical-than-thou and isn't as servile as a house-elf -- werewolves, Veela, giants, centaurs if WAP are stupid enough..."
