Susan had owled earlier, letting Eddie know that she would be late at work. It was so tempting to tell her that was fine and then head out to the bar, or Will's party that Davies isn't promoting. But, he'd gotten it into his thick little head that he had to do right by Susan. He had to stay sober this time, be what she wanted him to be. And not disappearing off to the bars or Roger's house was firmly in that idea. However, a drink probably would have done him some good. Or something. Anything other then the stinking cigarettes he had been puffing away at like a mad man to satisfying the cravings he had for everything else. Didn't work though. He still wanted a drink or twenty. He still wanted a joint and whatever other additive drugs his dealer put into his weed. He was well aware that he went to a shady dealer and didn't get anything pure and he was good and okay with that. Or, he would have been if he was smoking anything other than a cigarette.
He'd stopped going outside to smoke, even at Susan's house. Not that he had been home since his last drink. He had a fridge full of beer and a whole liquor cabinet in his kitchen. He couldn't go back there and not drink. There was the smell of smoke covering everything, as well as a cloud almost permanently above his head. Susan was going to kill him later, but he would cast some spell or something to dissipate the smoke and clear the smell before she got home.
When the Prophet arrived, Eddie sat down and actually read it. He couldn't remember the last time he had been bored, but here he was, out of his mind with it, wanting to drill a hole with a blunt screwdriver through his skull to let his brain ooze out. That was surely more fun then... anything right now, really. He also hadn't read the paper in years. And of course, the one day that he does. Purebloods being attacked. Hadn't this war ended ages ago? Still, a tiny bit of panic rose up in him as he thought of Susan. She wasn't a pureblood, but she did have the pureblood name and that meant something still. Scribbling off a note that he was going to pick her up when she was done working late, Eddie sent it off before dressing in a pair of tight jeans and a t-shirt and floo'd to the Atrium at the Ministry of Magic.
