WHO: George and Luke.
WHAT: Birthday meet-up.
WHERE: Sing Sing, Luke and O'Briens' pad.
WHEN: April 13th (Backdated slightly).
RATING: Medium-ish.
STATUS: In Progress.
This is weird, was George’s first thought as she started her search for Luke. It was also quite possibly a little awkward.
Not that it’d felt awkward to assure him that before the day was out he’d have his birthday present in hand. It was more the aspect that they’d be face to face talking a week after what was quite possibly the most painfully awkward text conversation George had ever had. Further she was almost positive that that conversation had put them in a temporary funk. If nothing less it had put her in one.
The concept of going a week without even communicating via the intranet had been foreign until now. In her defense though she’d been thinking - a lot. And she still had more to do. She had a plan to try and steal some time in Allie’s busy social calendar to ask for advice. It was no secret to George that she was a mite bit confused and more than a little conflicted on her own.
Still she was determined to not allow their shared weirdness ruin his birthday. Not when she’d actually taken the time to figure out a gift that she thought had a chance in hell of interesting him on some level. Granted half of it was a throwback to the only other time they’d ever actually exchanged gifts but she liked the point of the mixtape currently in her bag wrapped in newspaper much like her copy of Eugene O’Neill’s Desire Under The Elms and The Great God Brown. Hopefully he wouldn’t mind how well loved the paperback was or the highlighted passages and margin notes.
If he did well she’d find him another present. It wasn’t everyday someone made it to twenty regardless of what she’d written on the boards.
In the end it was the water stains on the ground that let her know Luke wasn’t too far away. If they hadn’t the balloon popping not too far ahead of her definitely did.
Hustling inside before he could drop one on her, George made her way up to where she was pretty sure the balloons were dropping from. Pausing only for a second at the top of the stairs to take a breath and relax and push any and all residual awkwardness to the back of her mind as she proceeded to join Luke.
“Hey.”
