Kahea kept her fake facade on during the trek up stairs and to the roof. But her mind was piecing together the events that had lead up to this moment. When O'Brien lead them to a secluded area on the roof, her legs finally gave and she had to sit. Ikaika stayed at her side, always aware and always looking around for threats, like any good guard dog.
Kahea found her voice, but winced at how horse it sounded at first. "I found a place to squat for the night. I triple checked the premises and the surrounding areas and then I layed down a blanket. I was so tired, I didn't unpack my backpack." She paused to take a breath and winced again when she heard a mangled mew come from Anela.
"I don't know how it happened. Ikaika started barking and I just, I just sprang into action. I hadn't realized she wasn''t with me until after I fought my way out. I dont know what happened. Anything? I.. I could have dropped her as I ran, or she got cornered.. I.." Kahea voice trailed off again. She tried to remember, tried to straighten out the blurriness of her thoughts. When O'Brien pulled out a flash light to inspect Anela, maternal instincts kicked in. "Don't! Let me. Please," she spoke, grabbing at O'Brien's arm to keep him from touching the injured feline.
Ikaika let out a low growl when he saw the change of demeanor change in Kahea. He liked this man, but with the way Kahea spoke to him just then had Ikaika at alert. "Kahea controlled her breathing but she shook her head at the thought that came to her head. "I think, oh god.. where's Ellie?" Where was Ellie, Bridget, George, anyone. Kahea wanted this all to be a bad dream. But another whimper from the small, blood covered cat told Kahea things were very much real.
"She was bit. I tore her away from a walker. Literally tore her from it," she spoke evenly, almost as if she'd gone into computer mode. Oh where was everyone?
