If she were keen on it Jake wouldn’t have been happy. This was one of those moments where he preferred that his opponent (because let’s be honest that was exactly what Kate was to him) was off balance. And that was something he needed to use to his advantage since she tended to make him angry and unfortunately for him thinking things through when angry didn’t really happen. He couldn’t afford to say something out of hand. He needed to keep his calm with her because letting her win was not something he wanted to occur – ever.
He raised an eyebrow at her. “Charming.” He pushed away from the desk and walked to meet her. He would not have her telling anyone that he was anything short of somewhat gentlemanly in her company Well aside from the fact that he was about to tell her just how things were going to be.
“Let’s talk in the lounge shall we? Like civilized people.” He said motioning for her to follow him as he started off toward the lounge on the other side of the lobby. A few of the tables were still set although the silverware was missing, and many of the candle sticks. Jake wasn’t entirely surprised the Marriott was fairly close to the Library raiding it first seemed smart move. But the a few of the tables still had intact linens and it was at one of those tables that he sat down back to the wall so that he could see if anything was coming in from the lobby and the kitchen.
“Let’s get one thing straight immediately lil bird. I don’t like you. It’s nothing personal; I’ve never liked a single one of Brennan’s lady friends. But for the next six or seven months I am going to tolerate you as long as you follow a few simple rules. Understand?”
