How many times had she told herself she wouldn’t cry over another guy, and yet Vienna found herself fighting back tears as she kind of melted into Noah’s embrace, sinking into the comforting nature of it. She had so many issues with how she was feeling, with the sheer fact she had let another person into her heart, opened up the possibility of being hurt again – of losing someone again. But in this moment none of that matter; because he was here and for the first time in weeks she didn’t feel that tension between them. None of it mattered at that moment, because Noah had missed her, which meant he cared just as much as she did, right?
She tried to take a couple calming breathes, tried to get her emotions under control, but that was becoming increasingly hard as Noah continued to speak. All this time she had been assuming the worst, maybe because it was her nature now, whatever the reason, Vienna was realizing she should have allowed herself to hope to a little bit.
“I couldn’t sleep either,” she whispered as she brought one hand up to swipe at her eyes. The tears she had been trying to fight off had won the battle, but they weren’t tears of sadness, which was a new thing for her. “Because I couldn’t stop thinking about you, either.” She wanted to duck her head so he wouldn’t see her crying, but she didn’t do that. Hiding her feelings had gotten them in this situation in the first place. It was comforting to see his smile again, and those dimples that she kind of adored. Noah was a handsome man, and the vain part of her was definitely kind of gloating over the sheer fact that he was hers. “Things have just been so weird between us lately,” Vienna murmured. “I-I thought you were trying to subtly end this…”
