The mystery of Noah was what had first attracted Vienna to him, so why was it she wanted so badly to be able to figure him out now, to open him up like a book and clearly know what was going on behind those hazel eyes of his. This was a part of a relationship she had always loathed, the question of what the other person was thinking or the second-guessing. But she was in this now and determined to make it work, even if she couldn’t figure out what Noah was thinking.
Ledger shifted around on the couch as Ty did, wedging himself into the open space he could find once the older man was situated. With wide brown eyes he peered up at Ty as he answered his question. “Oh, so it’s for everyone?” The question was asked in the childlike way that most questions were asked when they came from him. Though just as quickly as the question had been asked the little boy was yawning and his eyes were drifting closed and within minutes the small boy was breathing heavily and fast asleep.
Something about finally being alone both relaxed Vienna and made her feel more nervous all at the same time. Her emotions were so close to the surface that she knew she wouldn’t be able to hide them in what Noah had to say was some kind of ‘good-bye’ to her. It was stubbornness and a desire to not feel so vulnerable that pushed Noah to explain himself before she said or did anything that may reveal just how much she has missed him, how much she missed what they had.
She was almost positive she wasn’t breathing as he began to speak, her dark eyes wide and her expression still neutral – or as neutral as she could get it. Surprise flashed across her features when Noah closed the space between them and pulled her to him, and in that moment it was like every muscle in her body and she relaxed against him, sliding her arms around him. Her emotions betrayed her as she made a small kind of strangled noise, one that was threatening to be a sob. “I don’t want that either, because I hate how things have been,” she murmured, her words muffled by the way she had her face pressed against his shoulder. I miss you. For a moment her heart kind of stopped when she heard those words, because he wasn’t here to leave her, he was here because he missed her. “I’ve missed you so much.” She admitted quietly, her hands moving restlessly over Noah’s back as if she were assuring herself that it was truly him; that she wasn’t dreaming this.
