“Who knows, maybe they’re onto something,” Miah remarked with a shrug. The counselors at the rehab seemed to think it was solid advice, but then again it was sort of their job to be optimistic like that. “They must work for someone or they wouldn’t make the rounds the way they do,” he reasoned. “Hey now, someone might consider being hit by a door a fairly serious incident.” The smirk turning of the corners of his mouth confirmed that he in fact did not think it was a serious incident at all.
Having a touchy ego wasn’t a bad thing, but he found it often got a person into a lot of trouble. “So have I,” Miah couldn’t say he didn’t have an ego, he just maybe didn’t care enough about what people thought about him to notice it. Now that he could understand, as someone who was self-relent as well he couldn’t blame Leah for wanting to do things on her own. “That would be the downside, but I get it.”
His eyebrows rose in surprise when Leah mentioned that Lilah spoke highly of him, though he was less surprised when she added that her sister also spoke highly of a lot of people on Team Science. “They’re an impressive group of people,” one he actually felt kind of honored to work with. “You know your sister may be one of the most impressive, actually,” Lilah Stone was smart, maybe even smarter than him, though he didn’t say that. “The new lab is great, although that’s coming from someone who never worked in the old lab.” It had been shut down long before Miah had set foot on Sing Sing soil. “Talia’s got her experiments of course, and we’re starting to look into the abilities and what might have brought them on.” Though they still hadn’t gotten all that far on that, but Ellie was beginning to study and test out the various abilities that had manifested in people.
“Then I guess you’re lucky I don’t know this reputation of yours,” Although he could only assume it may not be one she wanted, especially if it kept people at a distance. If Leah were Ellie he may have nagged her and told her to rest, but he didn’t know the blonde woman well enough to do that and it some ways it wasn’t his place to do that. “Both valid points, we’re all kind of wrapped up in our own things around here.” Sure people had a vague idea of what was going on with other people, but he found that as a whole most people were self-focused first – even he was.
With a smile that quirked up one side of his mouth, Miah nodded. “You know I would have offered, even if you hadn’t almost taken me out with the door.” Because at least this was a distraction, a way to step out of his own mind and carry on a conversation for awhile. “So how’s Evan doing? I’m assuming you look like you’re feeding and army because they’ve let him out of the infirmary?” Maybe it was a nosy question, and if Leah felt that it was he wouldn’t push her to answer it.
