Liberty Island had so many places to explore. The threat of swimmers was still there, obviously… David was fairly certain that it would never go away. After Rae had come back from her patrol with Patterson the other day looking as shaken as he had, David was hesitant to even proceed with the idea he and Elliot had come up with for a "reunion adventure." The initial utterance—or typing, as it were—of the phrase had brought back a myriad of memories, of after-dark walks throughout Bellevue or dares to sleep in alleged haunted houses. And David would've been lying if he'd tried to claim that the idea of a reunion adventure wasn't appealing to him. All of David's most fun memories involved "adventures" with his brother, so he couldn't see how an expedition to the top of the Statue of Liberty wouldn't be fun. Aside from the physical exertion, anyway. But that was easily ignored. The idea of a reunion adventure had been something that they'd come up with awhile ago. Like, back when Elliot had just gotten to Liberty. David didn't know why it had taken him so long to make good on the idea, but he decided that today, December 5th, was the day he was finally going to collect on that promise. He knew, however, in order to do that, he'd have to catch Elliot right as he woke up, before he went to report for duty at the medical tent. They could survive without him for one day. David usually wasn't so selfish, but he missed adventures with his brother. It had been far, far too long since they'd had the chance to have one. His bag was already packed, sitting beside him on his bedroll (and yes, his EMF reader was sitting securely in the front pocket), and he leaned over to his brother's sleeping bag, shaking his shoulder. "Elliot. Wake up. We're gonna climb the Statue of Liberty," he proclaimed, not giving his brother any other option, much as he had when they were growing up. |
