She pointed her finger like a gun at Caitie. “You do it like a pro. And, really, compared to me, you're definitely the morning person in this room.” Not that Maddie was really a late-nighter. Nyctophobia – though she didn't know the word – was a pain in the ass. An emphatic nod and the flash of a grin. “Yep. And I hardly ever miss because I've got the right motivation.” Maybe motivation wasn't the word she was looking for there, but it fit in with the meaning she was going for.
“It wasn't. You know how I like reminding people of things like that, though.” Stating the obvious. Not-so-subtly making a grab for that extra bit of attention. Team. Maddie didn't say anything for the first few seconds following the use of that word. It seemed like an innocent usage. Anyone else might not have thought much about it. Maddie flashed back to the night of Caitie's birthday party. She blinked and nodded. “Obviously.”
“It has. Cold weather makes us boring.” Or it made her boring, anyway. Caitie didn't mind the cold weather as much as she did. “And even if it's not the kitchen, maybe some other room. Some place fun.”
Her glance, too, went to the popcorn box sitting on the table. “Sure. Movie night sounds fun. Obviously I'll pass on the popcorn. Maybe The Parent Trap tonight? Make cracks about Lindsay Lohan like we usually do.”
Maddie nodded and smiled. “If you want to. That way I have someone else to blame if I turn out looking like a Weasley twin.” An obvious joke, but she really hoped it didn't turn out bad. Orange was one of those colors she wasn't sure about.
