"I always kinda felt bad for the hangman guy," Caitie thought aloud. "I mean, it was always the same stick dude, getting ripped apart and sewn up over and over again..." she smirked. Grim jokes were sometimes the best tension breakers. Not that there was much tension right now.
Caitie's mind immediately went to coat-guy, too, and her eyes turned in the direction of the building they used to live in. "I am so glad we aren't living near that guy anymore," she said in disgust, knowing that Maddie would know who she was referring to. "If I had to listen to him flirt with us one more time, I probably would've told Zach about it. And then there would've been a fight. And neither of us want that," she chuckled softly.
Admittedly, this scenario had played out in Caitie's mind, albeit in a different situation, a couple of times before. And even though it had, it still took her by complete and total surprise. She didn't mean to respond so awkwardly, it was just... the very last thing she expected Maddie to say or do. But it definitely wasn't unwelcome. Even if she was concerned that it would be weird for Maddie.
Girls their age did things like this all the time, though, right? So she looked at Maddie, and only once she knew that her friend was sure about this, did she nod and stand up. "I'll bring my blanket. Just so, um... so it's not too weird." It probably wouldn't make things that much better, but it was something, right?
She stood up and looked at the bed, worrying her lip in her mouth for a second and trying to smile. "Which, um... which side? Of the bed, I mean. Which side do you want to sleep on?" she asked, and cursed herself for sounding like an utter fool.
