“Ooh, or maybe it's the younger one. This rumor stuff didn't crop up until after that Kori girl's boyfriend died. Maybe she's doing it to be spiteful and hurt people like she's hurting.” She didn't know why that hadn't occurred to her before. It made more sense than anyone on leadership being responsible.
Maddie shrugged her shoulders, still not convinced that birds generally thought of as food wouldn't somehow wander into the wrong area. There were a lot of assholes around Sing Sing who considered food more important than pets. That was just her opinion, though, so she didn't comment. “If you say so.”
She snorted. “Exactly like that. Soggy and frozen socks are the worst.” Changing her mind about gargling water on the bed, Maddie slid back down onto the floor. A wet floor was preferable to a wet mattress she'd have to sleep in all night.
“Yes. Definitely.” Spoken before she poured water in her mouth. Then she nodded when she was ready. Her hand went to her mouth. She was already starting to grin. This was going to be a challenge. She was glad she'd decided to sit in the floor.
True to what she assumed, the laughter started to interrupt the gargling and water began seeping out from the corners of her mouth. As long as she didn't cough, things might not be too bad.
