“It’s one of those mysterious mystery things. If they ever find out who it is, that person’ll probably have to go into hiding or leave Sing Sing altogether because just about everybody will hate them. So it’s seeming even less likely that it’s Leader Guy.” She shrugged a shoulder. Leader Guy wasn’t all bad, at least. He’d gotten them their Christmas tree and decorations, after all.
Actually, it was Maddie’s fault. The chicken had been Caitie’s idea, but the duck and the kittens had been Maddie’s doing. She only had herself to blame, but they made Caitie – and to a slightly lesser degree, her – happy. That was what mattered. “Unless someone spots them out and about and decides they’d be better off as food.” That was still a concern of hers, as far as the chicken and duck went. “It’s okay. We’ll deal. Besides, seeing your face on Christmas morning when I dumped those cats on you was priceless.” She grinned.
“Huh. Maybe I’ll talk to her sometime, then.” Maybe. Maddie had already met April, at least. That was a start.
“So we play a game of water-gargling to avoid the hair of the dog treatment and the hell hangover tomorrow. Good plan.” And it was. Sort of. “And the extra challenge is to avoid dribbling water on ourselves and freezing the rest of the night.” She got up to grab a couple bottles of water from the table, tossing one on Caitie’s bed as she returned to hers.
