Caitie paused and nodded. "That's probably true. He got all bent and freaked when she was mentioned in one, and he probably never would've said anything about her," he mused. "I guess I wished so much that I knew who it was that I wanted to believe it was him, or something." Maybe. She wanted someone to blame for embarrassing her like she was. "Besides, if it was him, we'd probably need to find a new leader guy, and I think we could probably do a heck of a lot worse than him." A whole heck of a lot worse. "He might be boring, but we'd probably all be dead if he wasn't, or something." A depressing thought, but it was true.
"I know," Caitie responded to Maddie's comment about the room, noting the look on her face. "It won't be so bad in the spring, I think. We can let the birds out and everything." She trusted them not to fly away. "Sorry," she muttered. She knew that Maddie hated it sometimes, but she'd let herself get attached. It was Caitie's own fault.
Would she call April behaved? "Kind of? But she's kind of a combination between Nick and Luke. She's smart, though." Like George. But in a way that didn't make Caitie feel dumb. "But not hoity-toity about it. She's cool. Kind of, anyway." Seemed like a good match for Maddie's brother, too, but she didn't add that, just in case Maddie didn't think the same thing.
"When they aren't being dumb, anyway," she added. "The stuff that isn't about us is pretty funny, though." A general us, she was sure Maddie would get that.
She laughed. "Um... gargling booze would probably make me like... choke or something." She was a good drinker, but there were limits. "Water? We should probs drink some anyway so we aren't wishing we were dead tomorrow morning. Zach taught me that," she chuckled.
