“But then there was that rumor about his sister, too,” she added, remembering. It was easy to forget that rumor about George being easy because George… just wasn’t that type. “If it was him – or, hell, if it was me – I’d leave my siblings out of it. And the people I like.” Admittedly, spreading rumors was her style, but she wasn’t the one responsible. She shrugged a shoulder. “Whatever he does, he does it where no one can see. I never see him hanging out with anyone.”
Maddie laughed. “Probably. If Zach hadn’t told me what it was, I probably would’ve thought that was what hair of the dog meant. In which case, ew.” She swept some cat fur off her blanket. “This room is turning into a zoo,” she commented, and there was the barest note of disgust in her tone. She loved their pets, but they were smelly and messy. It was a lot harder to keep a room clean these days.
“Hmm.” Thoughtful, contemplative. Maddie wasn’t sure she wanted to get to know Luke’s sister. Lately, it felt like she’d become a bit antisocial, with all the people she didn’t want to hang around with. It made her feel out of sorts and a little bit lonely. “Different than us. Meaning she behaves herself. Like Nick.” Her nose wrinkled as she said the girl’s name.
“Sometimes. Maybe. A little.” Several of the rumors had been about her family and friends, though, which put a damper on the amusement factor.
“A gargling contest? What’re we gonna gargle? More booze?” She plucked another cat hair off her tongue. “Or fur?”
