“I know, right? Maybe if it is, it’s his way of trying to put some distance between him and her. I don’t blame him if it is,” Caitie’s nose wrinkled at the mention of Bitchy Stone. She didn’t mention the rumor about George, but there was a comment on the tip of her tongue about not blaming him for that, either. It was hard, sometimes, filtering herself for the sake of Maddie’s friendship with George, but she did it. “No way. No one’s that boring. I wonder what he does, though.”
Caitie laughed aloud and shrugged her shoulders. “You know, I never got that,” she pointed out. “Like... why call it hair of the dog? I bet someone’s actually tried to eat dog hair because of that phrase,” she pointed out, then made a face. “Cat fur, definitely,” she concurred. “I mean, like... at least their feathers are big enough that we can find them easily and stuff, you know? Kitty fur is thin and sticky.”
George. Caitie tried to make her disdain subtle enough not to be noticed, and she nodded. “Not a lot. But enough to know that she’s not like Luke. She’s like...” she paused, trying to think of a way to put it. “She’s kinda like a girl version of your brother, to be honest. Shy. A little weird,” she listed, knowing that she could get away with saying he was a little weird. Because he was. “But nice. She’s not crazy, though. Not like what the gossip person said. She’s not really, like...” she pondered for a second. “She’s different than us, y’know?” Mature. Not out to cause trouble like they always were.
“Outside of the stuff about us and your brothers and stuff, I gotta admit that the rumor person’s kinda entertaining,” she mused. “Gives us something to talk about and keeps us entertained and stuff.” She paused, then added, “not that I agree with what they’re doing or whatever, it’s messed up. Just... kinda amusing, too.” Sometimes, anyway.
What did she want to do? She thought for a moment and looked around the room. “We should play a dumb game. Like have a gargling contest, or something.”
