The smartest thing for Leah to do would’ve been to turn her back and walk away from this heated argument. Easier thought than done, though. She snorted derisively. “Yeah, right. So says you. I was way better suited for that defense job than you. I worked my ass off hoping to get it and you come along and weasel your way in.”
Giving up would’ve been the smartest choice. Or at least the less humiliating one. Leah was glad Micah wasn’t giving up. Not because what she was feeling was anything other than amusement. Nope, there was definitely no admiration in there.
Leah laughed louder at Micah’s failed attempt to give up. “This is one hell of a show, really.”
The second attempt to get up worked a lot better. Leah’s laughter stopped, but her expression was still amused, wondering what Micah was about to do next. She crossed her arms over her chest and raised her chin. “Then let’s see you skate. I’m ready for another show, Costanzo. Bring it on.”
It was petty, but Leah was getting a lot of joy out of watching Micah embarrass herself on the ice.
