It was really only a matter of time before the rumor mill started mass-producing information intended to be taken as fact. With the amount of things being spread around, it really was a wonder how so many people were buying into it. About half of those rumors could easily be denied. The other half…? Well, the other half included Leah and her “demon spawn.” Such a juvenile way of painting that particular picture and, because of that, it shouldn’t have bothered her. Anyone who asked about it wouldn’t be graced with a serious response or one that revealed just how bothered she was. She hadn’t exactly expected people to cheer whenever she and Evan got around to sharing the news, but having it shared in this manner was insulting and hurtful. She’d already given him permission to share the news, but he hadn’t, so it came down to letting people notice on their own. She doubted that many people cared, anyway. At least the ones who didn’t like her or weren’t family and friends. Ice-skating, like yoga, was one of those activities that helped clear her head. Leah had only been able to go once, maybe twice earlier that year, but it hadn’t been that enjoyable. Not with zombies around. The rink in Sing Sing made ice-skating a hell of a lot easier. She still had to take things slow so that she didn’t fall, but it was better than dealing with zombies and certainly better than not skating at all. Marigold wasn’t with her today. Of the many activities and things she’d tried to teach the girl, ice-skating wasn’t one of those things she was finding easy to pick up. Marigold was a great dancer and she was great at many other things, but ice-skating wasn’t one of them. At least not yet. Leah wouldn’t force Marigold to take more lessons, though. Not if she didn’t want to. She didn’t expect her to be perfect at everything and wouldn’t be disappointed if Marigold never wanted to skate again. So, Leah was on the ice by herself. Not alone, though. There were a few other people on the ice, having their own bit of fun and more or less ignoring Leah. That was preferable to having them staring at her. She was so wrapped up in her own movements and thoughts that she didn’t notice Costanzo skulking nearby. |
