Knuckles were white on the railing as she gripped it with both hands. She rolled her eyes at the retort. So maybe she was proud of being part of the group that cleared Sing Sing out, but she didn’t gloat about it.
…Or maybe she did. Damn.
Leah blinked when that revelation was made. Did she really do that? Unless it was Micah, throwing things in another person’s face wasn’t her style. She was just proud to have been a part of getting people out of government hands.
Guilt wasn’t something her rival would see, though. “As a matter of fact, I do. A lot of work went into making this place livable again. Nothing wrong with feeling pride for that.”
Leah smirked knowingly. “Of course I am,” she replied in a tone that clearly implied the opposite.
A chuckle floated through the chilly air, but that was the only response she gave to Micah as the woman went about pulling on the skates. The grumbling was amusing.
Leah took note of the trepidation in Micah’s eyes as she stepped out on the ice, and her smile widened a fraction. Yeah, this would definitely be a good show. Even if Micah actually turned out to be a decent skater when she was sober, the alcohol would likely be working against her. The waving arms were a staple of the amateur and first-time skater. Probably a staple of the drunk skater, too.
Showing off her obvious superiority, Leah, too, pushed off from the railing, but with a lot more control over her balance. She sped up to circle around Micah, observing her form with a taunting smirk. Micah grew more confident with her movements, making Leah’s smirk recede somewhat.
Just when she thought her challenge had been met, the drunk woman’s attention flicked to her long enough for the rhythm to be lost and the ass to meet the ice. Letting her immaturity and grudge get the better of her, Leah tossed her head back and laughed.
She slowed to a stop next to Micah. “What was that you were saying about your balance? Looks like you’ve lost your touch.” She heaved a sigh as if it was a huge shame, then offered her hand out to help the woman up.
