Rae's chuckle was slightly less awkward than his had been, and she nodded her agreement. "I mean, it has its downsides and everything, the constant struggle between robothood and humanity is probably a little upsetting for those robobeings, but..." she lowered her head and shook it. "Sorry. Imagination gets a little carried away sometimes, I guess." But it was nice to be able to laugh, especially so shortly after a total explosion like the one she'd just had.
His words made her take pause. Realization dawned on her and she nodded. "Right..." she spoke softly, guilt wracking her voice. "Right..." she repeated. "I didn't... I wasn't thinking." She'd just needed to get to the memorial. Needed to be close to him, even just for a little while. Swallowing thickly, she looked up and shook her head when he backed off. "No. No, you're right. I guess I just... I don't know. It was a bad choice all around. It was just one of those things I thought I needed to do. But it could've waited. I guess."
She smirked a little when he gave her a point. "Cane or not, you're bigger and stronger than me and we're both sort of at a disadvantage when it comes to chasing, so..." she paused, chuckling a little in spite of herself. "That'd almost be an entertaining chase scene to watch." A slightly morbid joke, but no less funny.
Had Rae any allusions to his interest in her, she might have been a little bit more hesitant to partake in this conversation. Not because it wasn't flattering, or sweet. It definitely was. But people around here already had a rather colorful idea of the kind of person she was. The last thing she wanted was for them to think that perception was right. No, the most she expected she'd be giving or receiving from this conversation was a new friend. She had a lot of friends, sure, but there was always room for more.
She knew that O'Brien was a little difficult, but, "it can't be that bad, right? And you seem to be pretty vigilantly patrolling, anyway. So... what's a little paperwork?" Encouraging. That was just the way she was.
What was she doing out here. That was a loaded question. She chuckled and lowered her head, her expression falling. "Oh. I just..." she bit her lip. How did she say this without sounding like a sentimental idiot?
"I wanted some alone time. My place has been crowded lately and everything, and I just wanted some fresh air. So I figured I'd go see Elliot's memorial. Sit and... you know, just... talk to him." She cast her eyes to the side. "Selfish..." she added in a whisper.
