“I've missed you,” Rae told her friend. She didn't say so, but she meant more than just while she was on vacation. She knew Rory would know what she meant. “Feels like it's been ten years since we've done something like this.”
Rory pointed out people's understanding and Rae shrugged. “Sometimes people can surprise you in a good way, I guess,” she said with a little chuckle. It was a nice change to the bad surprises that people liked to heap onto people. “But hey, I'm not surprised.” She shook her head. “You're a good person, Rory. People know that. When you're a good person, people are almost always willing to help you come back from a traumatic experience.” She'd seen more than her own fair share of that, with both of her parents' deaths and her own experience in the facility with Rory.
Once again, she smiled when Rory mentioned her brother. “Not so weird,” she shook her head no. “Family's family. It doesn't matter who's older, you just feel protective of them. It's a good thing.” She nodded her head seriously. “I'm glad you found him. Having family is... a really good thing.” She didn't have any blood family anymore. But the definition of family was different now, and she knew that firsthand, with Elliot and David. Rory, and by extension AJ, too. “You deserve to be happy.”
Chuckling, she nodded. “Totally. You know what they say about idle minds.” She paused, then shook her head. “Actually, I don't know what they say about idle minds, but... a rolling stone gathers no moss. That fits here, doesn't it?” she asked.
“Next time? You're coming with me, though. It was a great time with Elliot, Ellie, David and everyone else, but something was missing and that something was totally you. I'll even let you pick the place.”
