The vacation had certainly had its desired effect. Rae was... happy. She'd been on her way to happy before, but now that she'd taken some time away from the things that stressed her out, she just... felt better than she had in months. So much so that getting back into her normal routine felt like a blessing.
Rae had a smile on her face as she cleaned up the apartment; their clothing filled the hamper (which meant that tomorrow was laundry day all day), because they hadn't really done any laundry since the beach trip. But that was okay. They were happy.
She probably would've left this little bit of cleaning until tomorrow, but Rory was coming over. And as much as she loved her best friend, her boyfriend's green, T-Rex boxer briefs hanging off the table probably wasn't something Rory wanted to see. After she'd put all the laundry in the hamper (and wiped the table clean), she set the popcorn she'd just finished making on the table with two of the cans of soda from the case she'd found in the back of that store in Connecticut.
Rory's gifts were sitting on the bed, for Rae to gather when she got here.
The knock on the door made her head perk and the smile on her face grow. “Yes ma'am, Captain Impatience, ma'am. I'm on my way, ma'am!” she called, picking up a dirty t-shirt from the floor and tossing it in the general direction of the hamper, pumping her fist when she made it. “Two points!” she called out, then turned around to open the door.
“Hey you!” she beamed, throwing her arms around her best friend's shoulders and smiling. “How's it going?”
